Mounjaro / Wegovy with > 5st / 30kg to lose

I know, yet another Mounjaro / Wegovy thread, but I wondered if anyone else with a lot to lose would be interested in a safe space to chat. The other threads (both the long-runner and the newbies) are great but I can’t believe how relatively little some people have to lose. I know it’s all relative, and two stone can be a lot of extra weight on a small frame, and it’s great that they are doing something for their health before they end up in the same position as me… but in my more ungenerous moments I think about what a dream it would be to be ‘only’ two stone overweight, and wonder how many posters I will see come and go while I plod along.

So, if any of that resonates and you don’t think I’m an utter cow for having these thoughts, come and chat! I will start. I don’t feel comfortable sharing my current weight but am happy to say that my starting BMI is over 40 and I have 7.5 stone / 47 kg to lose. I’m very tall but there’s no kidding myself that my current situation isn't very unhealthy indeed.

I’m halfway through my second week on 2.5mg Mounjaro and so far I have lost 8lb. I have not really had many side effects apart from occasional loose stools, but I am also not experiencing the significant appetite suppression that others describe. Right now I am finding MJ a useful tool to take the edge off while I count calories and keep an eye on my macros to keep my protein intake up. A very welcome effect is that it has completely removed any desire to drink alcohol, which is helpful as a fondness for wine is part of how I got so fat in the first place. Nevertheless I am looking forward to moving up to 5mg and hopefully experiencing more appetite suppression.

Anyone else?

I'm at 7.5% body weight loss so far (around 25lbs), so no one has really noticed. Even I don't notice it and none of my clothes are massive on me yet, which possibly shows I was squeezing into them before. I'm seeing my parents today who I haven't seen properly since I started 8 weeks ago, so maybe they'll notice?

I am on week 4 of 2.5 and I know it's only a starter dose but I'm disappointed that my weight has stayed the same this week. Im on the pill so I know that the dreaded would be due about now. Doesn't stop me feeling a bit disappointed as I've a hell of a lot to lose and I want it to keep coming off. Feel a bit like it could be a other time where a lifestyle change just doesn't work for me and back to the drawing board. I really hope not. Do some people find it doesn't work despite doing everything right? I'm just a worry head.
The lack of food noise and no migraines is good though!

I lost about 60lbs a few years ago and I still had all my weigh-ins logged on MyFitnessPal when I went back to it the other day. Looking back at them I could see there would often be times when my weight didn’t budge at all for two weeks or more, but these were always followed by big losses of 5lbs+ in the following weeks. If you’re eating in a calorie deficit then the weight will come off, it’s just not linear! I get that it is disheartening to not see the numbers changing though.

I found this too, some weeks I'd even gone up a pound or two! However I started weighing daily, having previously only weighed on injection day. Seeing the little fluctuations made it much easier, if I put on half a pound one day and lost a pound the next it made it less of an issue. I used to hate weighing, it would throw my whole diet off as I'd get depressed and binge if I'd put on anything. Now I can see it's up and down, sometimes gaining and losing the same pound for a week or two and then losing three. If my weighing day was the day before I'd lost the 3lb I'd have been really miserable, this way I just shrug my shoulders and see what happens tomorrow.

I've lost more each month cumulatively as I've stepped up each dose and am now on 12.5mg so it's worth just progressing.

Quick reminder that small steady losses count. Health improvements can be seen from 5% body weight loss onwards so every step makes a difference.

@Lastchancefatty I don't know if you know of Team RH, the chap there can be a bit of a pillock but one thing he says that stayed with me is that weighing weekly can be demoralising if the weigh day happens to be one where you retain fluid or are a bit backed up, etc. He recommends weighing daily then averaging those weights once a week to get a better picture and, even then, it is not linear

Lastchancefatty · 04/07/2024 19:28

@NewoIkkin @MoreThanJustANumber @QueenOfHiraeth

I had intended to weigh daily but I have been rushing for work and forgot. I will do so from here on out. I'm just so conscious of how hard it's been to shift the pounds the last few years. I think I'm worried the miracle won't extend to me and I'll be watching everyone lose while I stay fat 😢 (again).

QueenOfHiraeth · 04/07/2024 22:20

@Lastchancefatty I feel very similar as I am losing slowly compared to others (6kg in 9 weeks) and I have tried so many things before but it's still a loss.
I don't weigh every day myself as I get obsessed and disordered if I do so I'll just plod on

dontstopmenow · 04/07/2024 22:41

Injection number 2 today. Last time I injected in my tummy which was pain free, this time in my thigh which has stung a bit. I forgot to weigh this morning so I have no clue how I am doing. Will weigh tomorrow!

MrsClownland · 04/07/2024 23:18

I'm not so keen on weighing. I do do it - twice a week - but I do like the non-scale victories such as clothes fitting better, or feeling more active.

giggly · 04/07/2024 23:39

Long time lurker, previously lost two stone in Saxanda but had to stop as I couldn’t afford it anymore.
Started Mounjaro 6 weeks ago and have lost 5kg which is a abit disappointing as I have about 10 stone to lose, however I suspect I’ll be one of those that need to be on a higher dose before weight loss really kicks in.
second week of 5mg and injected last night so tonight is all about the wind and the burps 🤮

Victory today as was out for lunch and could not be persuaded at all by the delicious looking cakes, the desire was just not there.
Love that the food noise is gone and need to remind myself to eat( and to feed the kids)
Just need to get to tomorrow by which time my stomach will have calmed down a bit.

PrincessPeache · 05/07/2024 06:22

I’ve lost a stone since Sunday 🥹

JessicaPeach · 05/07/2024 15:20

My official one week weigh in is in the morning but I am a daily weigher and so far have lost 6.2lbs which I'm pretty pleased with for a first week. I'm due my jab tonight and I have definitely felt a bit hungrier today and been thinking about food more. Looking forward to seeing what happens next week, it's been a good diet week!

Mayel · 05/07/2024 21:24

Hello ladies, nice to meet you - found you via the googles.

I took my first jab of MJ on Monday - slightly achy face the day after, maybe a bit weary but no major side effects so far.

I don't feel like I have appetite repression until I start eating and then it kicks in. It's taken me 4 hours to eat one meal this evening and I haven't had anything else today (though it is a big meal of chicken and cauliflower).

Did Saxenda for a couple of months a couple of years ago but couldn't afford to keep it up - really hope this is the one for me.

SW (as of July 1st): 16st 12lb
GW: 12 stone to start with, probably 10 ultimately.

RMNofTikTok · 06/07/2024 11:08

Oh dear god I went up to 1mg on Wednesday and I think I've eaten about 800 calories since then 😥 I didn't really want to move up but weight management services instructed me to keep titrating. I'm having a bit of a mental wobble, I'm 18.5lb down and I'm on week 9 which is GREAT but I'm meeting my friend for brunch shortly and I'm panicking because the thought of trying to eat is making me feel stressed. I can't eat or drink at the same time either because the liquid fills me up!

I really need some encouraging words please because I'm ready to throw my pen in the bin!

daliesque · 06/07/2024 12:28

Have wo lost a stone and under 16 stones for the first time in years 🥳

I'm not seeing a drop in dress size though, is that normal when you've got a lot to lose? My size 24's are feeling looser....but don't feel I can fit into a 22 yet, apart from next chinos that have always been huge.

Had a strange experience with injecting the last (4th) dose of 5mg this morning and I couldn't get the plunger down....had to wind it down click by click so now panicking I've not injected it properly.....

In the past it's always taken me the best part of 2 stone to drop a dress size. I think I might drop a bit quicker this time as I'm between an 18 and a 20 but usually get 20 because I don't like things too tight.

I had my second jab last night and appetite suppression is back today, fingers crossed for a good loss this week

WeAllHaveWings · 06/07/2024 12:40

2nd week/weigh in this morning and psyching myself up for my 3rd injection.

Wk 1 - Loss 10lbs
Wk 2 - Loss 2lbs

I wasn't expecting any loss this week as thought I would put some of the 10lbs I lost when ill last week back on. So happy with total 12lb loss.

I have found myself straying to the fridge a little this week out of boredom/habit while WFH (no where near as much as before) and then walked away, need to work on that habit for post-mounjaro. There are biscuits and chocolate in the fridge and crisps in the cupboard that have been there for 2 weeks but they are not screaming at me! It is such a weird feeling.

Wanted to think about some exercise but feel lacking in energy so far. That is probably because I still have some post covid fatigue, have cut out so much sugar and I am not getting a caffeine hit drinking Pepsi Max all day. It might be more sensible for my joints to wait until I lose a bit of weight before starting anything. Is anyone else who is very heavy doing any exercise and what type?

24 weeks until Christmas. An average loss of 2lb a week will be another 48lbs. So hopefully 4st loss in total by Christmas is realistic! I will still be in obese BMI range, but it will be a great Christmas present for my knees!

KeepingUndercover · 06/07/2024 12:54

@RMNofTikTok I've felt like this at times when going up a dose. This week even though I've been on my dose for ages the appetite suppressant has been high and it's felt like a slog. I've got the next pen up waiting for me to start next and I don't really fancy it.

I'm sure you will adjust to this pen and it will feel better. It must be harder being under weight management if they are insisting you go up and you don't feel ready.

I'm going out for lunch with friends tomorrow but it's tapas so I'm hoping that will be easier to manage. I think small plates are the way to go for meals out!

daliesque · 06/07/2024 13:02

@JessicaPeach thank you 😊

JessicaPeach · 06/07/2024 13:43

Are you tall @daliesque ? Meant to ask in my previous post, I'm 5'10 and at lower weights have been lucky to have weight evenly distributed across my body. I think now I weigh more I'm bigger in those more traditional areas so maybe will drop a dress size more quickly?

daliesque · 06/07/2024 14:18

I wish @JessicaPeach barely 5'2" 🤣

RMNofTikTok · 06/07/2024 14:30

@KeepingUndercover thank you so much, it's really validating to hear I'm not the only one struggling. I've eaten half a sandwich and feel so sick now, but you are right this will likely pass and I need to hang on to that!

MrsClownland · 06/07/2024 15:21

I took dc out to a fast food place for lunch today and I couldn't finish what I'd ordered - I didn't feel sick or anything, I just had no desire to polish it off.

Twinstudy · 07/07/2024 10:58

Hi, I had my first wegovy jab on Tuesday night. So far so good! The most unexpected (but not unwelcome!) side effect is that I'm just not interested in drinking. I was drinking way too much before and was definitely a binge drinker. Went to a barbeque last night and had one glass of wine followed by a cup of tea 😁 definitely would have polished off the bottle last week! its early days but I'm really happy so far. I've got a long way to go (around 8 stone 😣) but I'm feeling really confident!
