Storms a coming!

Lightening map shows a huge storm in the south west heading central England. Is anyone experiencing it? Please send it up to me 😁

It was an isolated and unexpected storm. They only update their forecasts every few hours, so that probably explains it. The BBC forecast isn't that great anyway, we prefer the Met Office one.

I've just looked at a post I made early on in the thread, and I was right - it did blow itself out just before it got to us, so we just had the tail end of rain.

My son and his school trip were sat on the runway ready to leave Geneva ...five hours later they have actually taken off and are not sure if they're landing at Cardiff or Bristol which isn't that helpful especially in the middle of the night ..!

You lot are hardier than me, I used to have a proper phobia of storms which I think would have resurfaced had this come anywhere near me.

West Midlands here. At about 8 pm this evening, I ventured out and I felt the airwaves were going crazy,thought I smelt a bit of ozone and just knew a storm was on its way. Clouds looked foreboding .

It's fascinating isn't it. Love this stuff! Though takes a bit to get my head round the science lol.

@SapphireSeptember oh boy yes I remember the 2012 one, assuming it's the one you mean. Our friends got the golf-ball sized hail and we got the insane wind. It uprooted a lot of trees. And as usual no warning about it!

The storm over Bristol was epic. I nearly drowned walking from my car into the local shop. The rain was biblical. Coolest I've been all day. 😂 The house hit by lightning in Emersons Green was awful. I felt so bad for the family. 😭

Can you send it to London please? Having said that we did have a bit of rain earlier which was most welcome - and it feels relatively cool out there tonight. Dreading tomorrow though.

I think it must be, that thing was massive and slow moving. Although we didn't get any hail!

Wish it had made its way up near Liverpool. I’d have been the first outside to get soaked in cool rain!

My family and parents are not religious at all but I distinctly remember being told that it was "God moving his furniture around" as a toddler. Seemed to make sense to me. Furniture that big would make a noise.

It’s just hit here in Hertfordshire and it’s a big one!! I do love a storm but bizarrely not during the night, although the lightning is spectacular!

Not sure it’s as big as what the West Country got earlier but we have thunder and lightning in Bucks now. Feels cooler, temporarily at least

Well we were not forecast any rain, but just been woken up by a massive thunderstorm, the garden will be glad of it but the washing I left out won't be! I checked before putting it on and we were not due any rain until Saturday!

I'm in the SE. We have just had some torrential rain and I think I heard a rumble of thunder in the distance. Light rain showers were forecast, not what we've just had.

It wasn't all that hot here yesterday. Due to get hot today though.

I’m in north London and it’s been constant T&L for the last hour or so - I can’t sleep. The flashes are like strobe lighting. Huge cracks of thunder in between ongoing rumbling and rain occasionally coming in torrents.

I’m in West London, it’s just woken me up. Lots of lightning & mammoth rumbles of thunder, & rain as if it’s coming out of a huge bucket.

Thunder and lightning just arrived here.

Absolutely apocalyptic storm over north London right now. Never experienced anything like it.

And here - made me realise that it’s been ages since I’ve seen a storm. Everyone else in my house is fast asleep - I don’t know how they’re sleeping through this.
i can cross ‘water plants’ off my to do list for this morning !

It’s crazy over me in South London right now. So much lightning and thunder it woke me up!

Another west Londoner and I also have never seen anything like it. There’s going to be some serious flooding on the roads this morning.

I’ve just had to get up and close all the windows and wipe down everything that’s wet! Amazing thunder and lightning tho! We’re in the loft and sound of the rain on the flat roof is so loud
