Lightening map shows a huge storm in the south west heading central England. Is anyone experiencing it? Please send it up to me 😁

OP posts:

Somerset here. That was the scariest thunderstorm I have ever experienced. Proper tropical storm vibes. Lightning every 20 seconds, loudest thunder I have ever heard (loud enough to set off alarms) and torrential rain for half an hour or so. Completely calm again now. Noticeably fresher.

But honestly it's like climate change clearing its throat and tapping its watch.

danglethedingle · 22/06/2026 18:38

West Gloucestershire/Wales border, nothing here yet, but a few distant rumbles. I hope we get some rain at least.

illuminada · 22/06/2026 18:40

I have never heard thunder like this!

38thparallel · 22/06/2026 18:41

Black skies, thunder and lightning but not much rain unfortunately as we need some.
Worried about our whippet who nearly died of fright when the neighbours had fireworks last Guy Fawkes night.
Edited to remove ‘S’ of whippet

Im in Glastonbury and its epic. Torrential rain, thunder and lightning. The sky looks like a massive purple and black bruise.

Also a few of my friends here have been flash flooded. Water pouring into the house.

Allseeingallknowing · 22/06/2026 18:46

Hope it moves up to Yorkshire!

squashyhat · 22/06/2026 18:47

Time to trot out the evergreen falsehood that a storm "clears the air" 🙄

It doesn't. It's the cooler air drawn in by rising warm air currents that causes the storm.

@Gettingbysomehow @lanzinis. Very jealous. Does it feel less muggy now?

Well strangely its still very hot but not as humid thankfully.

Ottercave · 22/06/2026 18:53

We were watching it from inside a pub on Burnham-On-Sea seafront. The storm was very much giving off hurricane in the Carribean vibes.

PinkNBlueBunnies · 22/06/2026 18:56

Any updates on where it is now?

LittleGreenDragons · 22/06/2026 18:57

Thunderstorm - yes please.
The storm was very much giving off hurricane in the Carribean vibes. - Hell no 😱

LittleGreenDuck · 22/06/2026 19:00

Loudest thunder I’ve ever heard an hour or so ago just outside Bristol.

55larry · 22/06/2026 19:02

We live just south of Bath, it was so dark the street lights came on, there were rumbles of thunder for about 30 minutes and then the wind struck. I have never seen the trees in our back garden blown about so much. It poured with rain for about 20 minutes and then moved away. It is lighter outside now but not really any cooler.

StarCourt · 22/06/2026 19:03

Looks like it’s in the Cotswolds

Pistacheeo · 22/06/2026 19:03

pinknblue if you search "lightning maps" you can watch it live.

ProfessorGarlick · 22/06/2026 19:04

Also in Somerset and it really was epic! Lost power a couple of times, I was filming out of my window a bit but had to give up when the wind was lashing the rain straight into the room.
my DD was pretty scared and wouldn't leave the same room as us until things had calmed down. Peaceful again now, although still raining a bit. Local roads are flooded and some are falling apart a bit!

GreenDogDot · 22/06/2026 19:09

Yep, with us in the Cotswolds but moving on now. We were at the far side of a playing field with a slow moving toddler when it first started. Needless to say she found it hilarious and we took a very slow route back to the car with lots of excited clapping and lying down! Pleased that I had the foresight to put the pushchair away before we left. I did not get the washing in though…

Oh thanks I never knew about this!

EverardDeTroyes · 22/06/2026 19:13

It's funny how localised these things can be. Im in north Bristol and we got dark skies and had to put the light on, a very gentle pattering of rain - the sort that makes no difference to gardens - and a few distant rumbles of thunder. That was it. Having said that, it's still very grey out there. I'd love a good storm.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 22/06/2026 19:21

Somerset here. Epic storm. Didn’t know it was coming. Went to get the DC from school. The sky was getting dark, then a few sports of rain, didn’t think much of it. On the way home I said it might rain later, it’s so dark. Temperature dropped 10 degrees and windy, dark and weird. Got home and suddenly the most enormous thunder and lightning overhead. Sat in the car waiting for it to pass. Nope it got worse, so ran to the house got soaked through.

It was like a storm on an American film. The gutters were overflowing and the drive flooded in seconds. Two hrs later and it’s still raining and rumbling. The lightening looked pink. It was so weird. Nothing I’ve ever seen before.

Conversationalcheddar · 22/06/2026 19:22

It’s hit us in Oxfordshire. Smells wonderful after a hot day!

SqueakyFromme · 22/06/2026 19:22

So jealous ! Missed us in Dorset

APurpleSquirrel · 22/06/2026 19:33

At least I don’t need to water the garden & pots tonight!

LittleGreenDuck · 22/06/2026 19:33

A house not far from us has been struck by lightning and is on fire. Poor family, I hope everyone is out ok.

Yes! My sister lives there, she's just sent me a few videos of the lightening, as well as one from the high street showing which shops have flooded.

No storm in London.
