Lightening map shows a huge storm in the south west heading central England. Is anyone experiencing it? Please send it up to me 😁

Totally calm here in the East Midlands but wow some of these accounts seem like the type of storm that could've even spawned a tornado or two-hopefully not though! Do we think it was a supercell? Rotating clouds?

TheChosenTwo · 22/06/2026 21:33

I’m in the SE, the sky got pretty dark and moody around 6:30 and about 45 minutes ago it rained for about 15 minutes. It’s now stopped 😂
no storm here but I’m not watering my herb bed this evening!

@Gettingbysomehow @lanzinis. Very jealous. Does it feel less muggy now?

Me too. I love. Good storm

It was glorious! Now sitting in the garden with a beautiful cool breeze. No longer sweating like a pig!

I am so jealous, the heat is oppressive where I am, feels like a damp fusty blanket

OutOfApricots · 22/06/2026 21:48

Just hot and wet in this part of Bedfordshire. Not a breath of wind. It's like being in a rainforest.

MeetMeOnTheCorner · 22/06/2026 21:51

The weather map showed lots of rain in north Bucks and towards Luton and Bedford. It’s less intense than when it was further west.

Ooh, what's a supercell? We get more tornados in the UK, per land area, than anywhere else in the world. Never seen one though.

I'm gutted it petered out before it got here in East Anglia. We've just got rain.

Readingtonian · 22/06/2026 21:56

We had lots of lovely rain in Reading, and it's so much cooler now (although when it first started raining it was like a sauna!)

justasking111 · 22/06/2026 22:00

North west Wales Anglesey and the Lleyn is due rain and thunder in a couple of hours.

Charlize43 · 22/06/2026 22:03

Is it coming to London?

KoalaKoKo · 22/06/2026 22:03

We had rain at around 4pm for an hour or so in Devon.

SapphireSeptember · 22/06/2026 22:04

We had some thunder and lightning earlier (though not very close to here) and it's been raining for over an hour. It's lovely and cool now.

No, London is just getting light rain but at least it’s cooled down a degree or 2.

They're a particularly strong and violent thunderstorm that are more likely to spawn tornadoes and massive hail.

I think you have to look out for low hanging rotating clouds and green skies and it just might produce a tornado if the conditions are right! Yeah we get them here, thankfully they don't tend to do too much damage but would still be terrifying to witness!

It was epic! Torrential rain, sudden swirling winds, bins being washed down the street, the lightening was almost constant and the thunder felt like it was all around us for 30 minutes or so, most impressive storm I’ve ever been in.

That's so interesting, thank you.

I'm completely addicted to lightning maps. It must be spectacular in northern Italy right now.

Bubobubo · 22/06/2026 22:26

Apparently we had 800 lightning strikes in Bristol! A few times the house felt like it shook!

My friend lives near someone whose house has set on fire by the lightning.

Yes I just checked the lightning map and saw it had reached near Venice.

DD is in Bath, we were on a video call and it was very scary, we had it earlier further SW but nothing like as dramatically.

Bath here too - It really was apocalyptic, almost pitch black too - what made it worse was most of us had no coats, no brollys and in open toed sandals as it wasn’t predicted ..and most were just leaving work too so travel was totally up the spout

SapphireSeptember · 22/06/2026 22:45

@FenceMafia and @Firefly1987

We had a massive supercell thunderstorm back in 2012. It went from London up to Peterborough and went on for hours (all night). The carpark of the flats I lived in flooded and the roof of the Sainsbury's café I used to work in leaked and there was a big puddle on the floor. It was epic, although I didn't get much sleep. 😁

Calliopespa · 22/06/2026 22:45

This is so weird as BBC weather just has sunny yellow suns smiling out and no storm warnings mentioned

DaisyDooley · 22/06/2026 22:50

I am now addicted to lightening map.
Its wonderful. Thank you!

justasking111 · 22/06/2026 22:54

Last year I watched on a webcam in the Dover area the storm ⚡⚡ was incredible.
