Lightening map shows a huge storm in the south west heading central England. Is anyone experiencing it? Please send it up to me 😁

Oxford had a storm

EveryKneeShallBow · 22/06/2026 20:31

I’m going to admit to being a little bit jealous. I lived near Bath in the summer of ‘76 and remember the thunderstorms. Absolutely blooming loved them. Was camping with the Guides during one and it was awesome.

I’m so glad there is a thread as I’m home alone (between Bath and Chippenham) and it feels like the apocalypse. The sky started darkening around an hour ago, and got is now dark as midnight. Cars have their lights on. The wind suddenly went insane, doors banging throughout the house with the draft. Terrifying! The rain is now absolutely torrential, thunder and lightening and the electric just went off (for 30 seconds, back on now).
I hope this passes over us soon. I know it sounds silly but it’s actually scary and I’m worrying about my horsies too!

Hope you feel better now. I work on Chippenham and as I was finishing up at work between 1730 and 1800 it got very dark! I went out at 1800 and it was spitting and the air felt really heavy.

Started driving and OMG it felt apocalyptic like @trakehner said. Half hour drive home and it was biblical. Thunder, lightning, strong winds, flash flooding, torrential rain and so so dark.

Passed over reasonable quickly, feels a little fresher than it was mid afternoon but still very muggy.

Lots of thunder & heavy rain in Leighton Buzzard

Aw, looks like it saw us and turned northwards - still just light rain here 😕

Wallabyone · 22/06/2026 20:42

We’re not far from St Albans-nothing here, just eerily dark.

ShrimpBoil · 22/06/2026 20:45

Lovely light drizzle in Windsor, garden soaking it up!

Wallabyone · 22/06/2026 20:46

Aaaand, it’s now pouring-there goes my washing 😂

Iheartmysmart · 22/06/2026 20:47

North Wiltshire here and we had torrential rain, quite a lot of lightning and some rumbles of thunder. I’d been out shopping and got drenched walking from my car to my front door - I should have waited for it to ease off but I was worried my kitten might be scared. However she completely unperturbed and was sat on the windowsill watching it all.

Still horribly warm and muggy now though.

We're in Dunstable, and have had a couple of rumbles and a short mild shower, but that's it 😭

We never get the benefit of good storms. It's like we've got our own micro-climate here

PinkNBlueBunnies · 22/06/2026 20:50

Not sure it’s going to make it to Derbyshire at this rate! It seems to have split into three storms now if I’m reading the map correctly?

AbsoluteHoot · 22/06/2026 20:50

I love nothing more than stonking lightning and thunder. If there’s torrential rain too - fabulous. The louder the better. We have a house in SW Florida and I love, LOVE the summer storms.

Sadly, none here in Surrey. But we are loving the warm weather, so don’t want that to break.

Handeyethingyowl · 22/06/2026 20:54

Sounds like it was apocalyptic - lots of reports of damage caused by lightening and floods 😕

BibiBlocksberg · 22/06/2026 21:01

still pleasantly sanity savingly breezy after the oppressive heat earlier here in deepest darkest dorset. Next door’s sheep & dog v agitated though so would wager more ‘excitement’ to come, This weather is nuts!!

JacketPotatoFoodOfTheGods · 22/06/2026 21:05

Yep it’s just starting in N London ⚡️

REP22 · 22/06/2026 21:07

Big old raindrops here in Hampshire - even the dog welcomed them. But no thunder yet. Fingers crossed...

Sunflowermoonbeam · 22/06/2026 21:07

It was INSANE in Somerset, felt like armageddon. The sky went so dark! Bliss, love a good storm

Happyjoe · 22/06/2026 21:19

SE here, just outside London. Started raining 20 mins ago and has got dark early - hoping for a nice storm!

Ruralletliving · 22/06/2026 21:19

Lightning hot Bristol airport and took out their Comms tower, at least five flights diverted to Cardiff

Lifeomars · 22/06/2026 21:23

I love what I like to think of a thorough storm, first the sky begins to darken, then you hear a faint rumble of thunder and recall being a child and counting the beats in between the ominous but thrilling noise. Then the first crackle of lightning and the sky brightens up again but with a slightly sinister glow. Then the rain pelts down and the air starts to freshen. When it is all over there is that smell, petrichor, I think it's called.

MrsMitford3 · 22/06/2026 21:26

Berkshire here. Lovely rain here but missing the storm drama.
I don't even care that all my cushions are outside getting soaked!!

Exasperateddonut · 22/06/2026 21:27

It was glorious! Now sitting in the garden with a beautiful cool breeze. No longer sweating like a pig!

Ohpleeeease · 22/06/2026 21:27

DD is in Bath, we were on a video call and it was very scary, we had it earlier further SW but nothing like as dramatically.

Im pretty near snorbs and hoped for a better storm! Its been raining since about 8 and 1 lot of thunder but nothing too dramatic.
Because I'm greedy I wanted a good storm but to be quiet and over before I go to bed! 🤣
