Storm Dave

Couldn't see a Storm Dave thread.

Hope everyone stays safe during Storm Dave. We had some rather wild winds last night here on the NE coast of England which only registered as around 18mph. Tonight, we are in the Amber zone and predicted up to 70mph. As far as I can see, the Amber zone stretches from around the south of Scotland down to Durham in NE England but goes across to the West of both those areas and seems to keep changing (Storm Dave coming from the West) Also, Northern Scotland is predicted snow and has a yellow wind warning.

Appreciate that sometimes these things come to nothing, but something tells me that this could be nasty. We have moved everything that could go mobile or cause damage.

@RainbowZebraWarrior stay safe, it looks like a bad un

Checking in from the North East coast. We're on top of a cliff!

Sounding a little blustery right now, but nothing out of the ordinary yet.

Edit for typo

feellikeanalien · 04/04/2026 19:27

We're in north west Northumberland. Not particularly windy at the moment and the highest winds are predicted at 47mph but with very heavy rain. We lose power at the drop of a hat here so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

GhostToast12 · 04/04/2026 19:35

Good luck @feellikeanalien we're predicted up to 70mph here (north Tyneside) but not much rain. Hope you keep your power! We're not too prone to power cuts compared to rural areas I've lived in, but we have young kids so I'm charging a couple of lanterns just in case x

justasking111 · 04/04/2026 19:39

In north Wales. It's a doozy. I've four candles on the mantel. Fire laid up. It's supposed to peak later tonight 🙈

👏 I'm North Tyneside too (Whitley Bay area) Starting to get up a bit now, but not set to get started properly until 9pm ish

Fork handles, you say? (sorry, couldn't resist)

Hope it doesn't cause any damage your way.

Good idea about charging stuff up. IIRC, the last storm we had, there were some folk without power for a week.

Central Scotland but closer to Edinburgh than Glasgow. It's heavy rain at the moment and the wind is beginning to ramp up

MusicalRocks · 04/04/2026 20:26

We are currently in Southern Scotland on holiday but live in Northern Scotland and tbh yellow and amber wind warnings arent that unusual for us so we aren't too worried but most folk here seem to be very worried about the yellow warning. Its a bit annoying to be without our usual supplies though and the garden back home is5nt as storm ready as I'd like it to be. Charge your devices, put away anything likely to fly about outside including bins. If you aren't on mains water then fill some jugs up and make sure you have cosy things and the odd torch to hand and you'll be fine.

Newswatch · 04/04/2026 20:37

I hope it gets really rough i`ll sleep better.

SabreIsMyFave · 04/04/2026 20:39

It's VERRRRRRRY windy (Cheshire/North Staffs border.) 9 degrees C. Lights flickering. 😬 Got the candles and candle holders ready (and the matches!) Phone nearly fully charged, battery powered radio nearby, and a torch! Taken anything loose out of the garden and popped it into the garage. Taken the 6 birdseed feeders down too, and the 3 hanging baskets. Also the Springtime wreath (off the front door) has come into the house.

Live in a little rural village, so we often have power cuts in storms! Only usually for 2 to 6 hours, but we have had a handful that lasted 12-14 hours. (Still way better than what some have had though - some have had power cuts lasting a week or more!!!)

I looked out the window this afternoon to admire a rainbow in the midst of the tumult and saw the neighbours’ football goal sail over the hedge, skim over our garden, and disappear into the neighbours’ on the other side.

It's weather.

I'm sure everyone will be fine.

Especially in their homes posting on the Internet about how it might get windy.

NoWordForFluffy · 04/04/2026 20:46

Pretty bloody windy on the NW coast. We're forecast up to 55mph, apparently.

It's blowing straight at the front of the house, so it feels wild in and out!

Yeah, I think the further north you are the worse it is! We are on the cusp! Just at the bottom of the storm. Windspeed is around 42 mph right now (67 kph.) It's set to get worse too.

NotMyRealAccount · 04/04/2026 20:56

It's ferocious on the Solway Coast.

nocoolnamesleft · 04/04/2026 20:58

We're forecast gusting to 60, but don't think we've hit that yet. Bit blowy, but I've known worse without a weather warning.

We regularly get 40mph winds here, but non-storm winds aren't as ferocious as persistent storm winds. I think we're meant to go down to 40mph again in a few hours.

I'm flying to Belfast tomorrow, so I need it to calm TF down! 😬😩

GhostToast12 · 04/04/2026 21:07

@RainbowZebraWarrior 😲😲 for a week? When was that? We're quite new to the area.

@MusicalRocks I've lived in northern Scotland (nearest town Inverness) so know what you mean...I also think that the further south you go, the lower the wind speeds are to trigger Amber warnings. Wondered if it's to do with population density? I.e. there is more chance of a tree squashing someone in Birmingham than on a mountainside.

PickAChew · 04/04/2026 21:11

It's just starting to set off my door knocker, here in Durham. It's going to be a noisy night.

Reckon we are about an hour East of you, Fluffy (as the wind goes)

Hoping it blows over quickly

It's very windy here. Dog won't go out. I'm a bit scared. Here alone apart from the animals. Gusts of 50mph.
