Couldn't see a Storm Dave thread.

Hope everyone stays safe during Storm Dave. We had some rather wild winds last night here on the NE coast of England which only registered as around 18mph. Tonight, we are in the Amber zone and predicted up to 70mph. As far as I can see, the Amber zone stretches from around the south of Scotland down to Durham in NE England but goes across to the West of both those areas and seems to keep changing (Storm Dave coming from the West) Also, Northern Scotland is predicted snow and has a yellow wind warning.

Appreciate that sometimes these things come to nothing, but something tells me that this could be nasty. We have moved everything that could go mobile or cause damage.

BashfulClam · 04/04/2026 22:01

Oh yeah, when I went for a walk the other week, I got caught in the hail, and the hail really battered my face! It really stung! 😬

Durham. Sheets of rain and hail. And all the bins have just been emptied - I've heard one on the move.

Teainapinkcup · 04/04/2026 22:08

Central Scotland closer to Glasgow, a lot of rain today and this evening the wind started up.

Oh wow, not too far from the OP then! I am hearing wheelie bins moving about too! Our bins were emptied a few days ago, and it was the recycling. So they're not always very heavy! Especially after just a few days after being emptied.

Seriously, don't be an arse. Some of us have had some major damage and disruption in storms over the past few years, and have discussed this here. Some of us live rurally and have been cut off for weeks.

Btw, this is the Weather board.

Thanks for your smug comment, though.

Glad you said that before I did.... We are Scottish Borders, getting wild here.

Lovemuesli · 04/04/2026 22:10

Here in North Yorkshire it's very blustery but I've known worse. No rain as far as I can see, but I'm not going out to check.

Blarn · 04/04/2026 22:11

I'm in Birmingham and very surprised at how windy it is! We are not under a weather warning at all.

SabreIsMyFave · 04/04/2026 22:12

I can hear the wind whipping through the power lines in my street now! Shock

GhostToast12 · 04/04/2026 22:13

Really beginning to rumble in the chimney now - sounds like thunder.

OrangeOpalFruits · 04/04/2026 22:14

68mph gusts and getting stronger 😬

Salome61 · 04/04/2026 22:16

I’m in Amble and the wind/rain is bad, cat flap is being blown open. . My cat ran in through the cat flap and I heard a cat miaowing out there - I went to look but he/she had gone. Hope he found shelter. I need to buy a ‘bin store’, I lie mine down but I can hear one blowing about.

I had to turn back as it was so painful hitting my face, it was the painful on my legs despite having thick legging in, it had real force behind it. Some of the bits were really big.

I got bungee cables to hold the lids down. They can tip but not spill. The issue we have is that we have a Sunday pick up and our bins are all out for general waste and paper/card.

9pm 93 mph wind speed at Capel Curig

Puffalicious · 04/04/2026 22:20

It's pretty wild here in Glasgow- very windy & heavy rain , but don't know the mph. It's been an interesting Easter weekend so far- mega hail yesterday, ending with sunshine & a beautiful sky when I was out walking at 8pm. Visited my sister in her new house rural Clackmannanshire today & it battered with rain constantly.

Collecting DS1 from his weekend job (pub) at 1:30am - nice night to be driving, ha!

Yes! I was out yesterday & it was so stingy- had to run back to the house looking at my feet!

Siouxtse1 · 04/04/2026 22:23

North West Cumbria. Currently about 64mph. We live at the top of the hill, but in the middle street of houses, so not as exposed.

It sounds pretty loud and there's 2 massive evergreens in the garden that we couldn't prune due to bad weather/ injury Dec/Jan/Feb. By March, the birds had moved in, so we can't do much with them until October/November!

Hoping my husband gets back from work at a reasonable hour, Pretty certain he's forgotten to pack a chainsaw, so I hope he finds a way home without encountering any fallen trees.

Had a courtesy message from the energy board this afternoon, asking us to email if we lose power. Phone signal is patchy on most networks (in this house). I really hope I don't need them- last year they called me at 1 30am to check I was OK after reporting a power cut at 7pm (that was fixed by 9 30pm!)😴

Fingers crossed that everyone stays safe.

BashfulClam · 04/04/2026 22:24

CHARGE POWERBANKS if you have them.

Salome61 · 04/04/2026 22:26

Boil the kettle and fill flasks too - my flask keeps warm for 12 hours.

That's scary stuff at no mistake ,hope it passes and no or little damage.

CleanSkin · 04/04/2026 22:29

Oh my word, there’s some serious weather out there tonight, I hope you all sleep well with no / minimal damage - and please take care when you’re out driving later, @Puffalicious (you’re clearly a very lovely Mum)
We’re in Cheshire, it’s pretty windy but so far not too awful. I think I adequately secured all the garden bins, bits & bobs earlier. Guess we’ll find out when DDog barks to let us know something has gone flying!
