Couldn't see a Storm Dave thread.

Hope everyone stays safe during Storm Dave. We had some rather wild winds last night here on the NE coast of England which only registered as around 18mph. Tonight, we are in the Amber zone and predicted up to 70mph. As far as I can see, the Amber zone stretches from around the south of Scotland down to Durham in NE England but goes across to the West of both those areas and seems to keep changing (Storm Dave coming from the West) Also, Northern Scotland is predicted snow and has a yellow wind warning.

Appreciate that sometimes these things come to nothing, but something tells me that this could be nasty. We have moved everything that could go mobile or cause damage.

With no roof?

Worst the storm or weather better i sleep.

mowlow · 04/04/2026 23:40

Pretty windy in herts. Lots of rattling sounds.

PinterandPirandello · 04/04/2026 23:52

Sounds scary and hope you all stay safe. Suprisingly gusty here in SE London - didn’t think we’d be affected.

NoWordForFluffy · 05/04/2026 00:02

Seriously noisy here. Sleep may not come easily.

Apparently next door's (new!) trampoline is on its side. Bodes well!

Really gusty in N London too. Strange as the weather forecast is not showing wind but it’s actually pretty bad.

Hampshire coast is where we are; Dave definitely wasn't forecast to make his way down here. The dog and I have just had a very windy walk indeed.

Hampshire coast here too and it's incredibly wild and windy!

Stillamum3 · 05/04/2026 00:42

Our power was out for a couple of hours earler - back on about 11:00 pm. We had very high winds here in north west Wales, with lashing rain. Apparently there's a tree down a few hundred yards up our road which has damaged someone's car. Not sure if that was what made the power go off in the whole village though. No reports of injuries, thank goodness.
I feel for the men who have to go out in this weather and get the power back on. They are heroes!

MsGreying · 05/04/2026 01:24

It's really noisy out there. Might leave the TV on all night.

I'm in Essex and the weather forecasts all said it was going to be nice ish and had storm showing for the north of England

Credit to XCWeather who predicted it would affect us and said the worst of the gust would be around midnight - spot on so far.

I didn't keep up with it at all because the other website just had normal windspeeds for the day, but it's really noisy outside

Also, I'm kind of tucked away because I live on a development and there's a narrow space and then I can see into another building

it almost never gets windy over here

RainbowZebraWarrior · 05/04/2026 01:57

There is no way of sleeping through this one at the minute. Gusts of almost 70mph here in Newcastle.

I’m in the Chilterns and the noise of the wind blowing across the feilds is keeping me up it’s so loud and the wind sounds strong I think there might be a few trees down in the morning

fairylightsanon · 05/04/2026 02:20

NW and pretty noisy outside. Not my cat who hasn’t been in for 3 weeks, turns up banging on the window to be let in
guess he’s staying the night

Oh bless him! It is definitely not a night to be outside if you're a cat.

This was my lad (Mr Darcy) earlier in front of the fire. He was most perplexed with the noise of the wind. Thankfully he is now sound asleep at the bottom of my bed.

I’m in North Hertfordshire. We are nowhere near the storm zone but the wind is horrific here tonight and I’m awake because my garden gate blew open and was banging against the wall. It’s not as secure as I’d like so I wedged it with a 12kg kettlebell and it blew that away! I’m now wide awake and pissed off 😆

Crikey!

Looking at the earth wind map, it does rather seem like the south east has been more affected than expected.

Eye of the storm currently sitting just on the coast of North East Scotland and heading out to sea.

Oh that’s interesting, thanks for sharing! We’re normally fairly lucky with avoiding these things down south but it has definitely affected us. To be fair it’s been windy for a lot of the past week but tonight is really bad. I need to go to bed, i don’t know what I’m doing here at nearly 3 am 🤪

Mine is very unsettled 🙀

LilyBunch25 · 05/04/2026 02:51

The Kindle is seeing good use tonight! Once it's light I'll go and see how things are in the garden- did secure everything but soe of the noises have been perturbing!

hangonwhilstioverthinkthis · 05/04/2026 03:01

Just had to tape down the letterbox after it's woken me 3 x since 11pm 🙄 now googling letterbox brushes and very awake!

popdepop · 05/04/2026 03:05

Woken by something outside and looked on ring doorbell, looked like a bin in the road. I opened my door and everything flew off the shelf. Been out to put plant pots that had blown over in safe space so don’t damage any cars. I think it was a car part in the road. It’s flown off somewhere else now. It howling and scary

Mr Darcy!! 😍

How is everyone? Calm here again now I've managed to go out and hide the Easter eggs around the garden.

I remember one Easter it was hot and the eggs nearly melted so we had to get them found quick.

And another when it was so wet we had to hide them indoors instead.

Such a random weather time of year.

I'm amazed Blackpool isn't on this list given it's so close to us and was wild here!

I amazed myself by going to sleep. But have woken up as I'm too hot, even though we've now been able to open the window.
