So in a few weeks time (1st September), it’s the start of meteorological Autumn. TheWeatherOutlook has some early thoughts about it here and Netweather’s thoughts are here.

Chilly is ok, endless wet days/storms ~ not wanted.

Autumn 2024 weather

Is a chilly autumn more likely than in recent years?

I'm the same @Vegemiteandhoneyontoast , I don't mind the temperature but we have been under a grey blanket for a week now and it's beginning to feel a bit oppressive. No sign of sunshine for the next few days either.

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 04/11/2024 10:29

Is it only a week @IDareSay ? Feels more like a month.

MotherOfCatBoy · 04/11/2024 10:33

Same here. Want ☀️ !

GloriaSmud · 05/11/2024 07:19

Yes, beginning to want some sun as well now. There might be some glimpses of it today for some.
Dry and settled theme continues.....

Was lovely and sunny here this morning, the clouds came in from the west and the temperature dropped

JoyAngerOut · 05/11/2024 18:02

Which area of the country are you @justasking111 , we have had misty grey days for what feels like forever in the north west? It is better than the rain we have had previously but I long to feel the sun on my face again.

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 05/11/2024 18:16

@JoyAngerOut that's what we've been getting in west Oxfordshire.

Today there was sunshine forecast for this afternoon but it didn't happen. The mist started gathering around 3.30 and is supposed to linger until tomorrow lunchtime, before a brief respite of cloudiness, followed by more mist.

Pixiedust1234 · 05/11/2024 18:29

I can't remember the last time we had sun. Plenty of misty autumnal mornings that don't seem to clear before heading into misty autumnal evenings that start at 4pm, which will only get worse from all the fireworks and bonfires.

I think I might use up all my yellow toner and print one off to stick on my window 😂😂

justasking111 · 05/11/2024 18:50

North Wales. The wind was a southerly, was like a warm spring day this morning. Our postman was overdressed he said. It didn't last it's chilly and cloudy now.

It’s starting to get to me now. I’ve been telling myself it’s « autumnal and cosy » all week but today was just so DARK - there’s no light in the sky.

I have a SAD lamp and I’m using it every morning.

justasking111 · 08/11/2024 23:32

Husband is immune. As long as it's not raining, blowing a hoolie, he'll fish, cycle, garden. He's rarely indoors. Whereas I'm moaning a bit.

GloriaSmud · 09/11/2024 07:01

I went to the allotment yesterday afternoon for an hour or two and decided around 4pm that it was time to get home as I'd had enough of the dull and damp conditions. Got in the car and realised it wasn't 4pm, it was 3pm as the clock in the shed hadn't been changed. Didn't matter ~ it was still dull, dreary and beginning to get dark at 3.30pm anyway!

But change is on the way ~ tomorrow afternoon for some but mostly Monday onwards, we should all get to see some sun.

Where is the sunshine? Signs of a change on the way

The gloom and grey skies continue into the weekend but there is hope. Some parts of the UK have seen sunshine and warmth but for many, it has been cool and dull. Roll on sunny Monday.

oh I was thinking the SAD light companies have probably been getting a glut of orders from the RG20-ish postcodes this week.
The only upside has been that the weather has been strangely pleasant for running. The air is so still and it's not rained.

gingercat02 · 09/11/2024 11:15

It's trying really hard to be 🌞 here. There are small patches of blue sky, and the grey bits are quite bright. I live in hope 🤞

justasking111 · 09/11/2024 14:14

It's colder so I hope a change is on the way

Peridot1 · 09/11/2024 14:25

@OhBeAFineGuyKissMe - I’m not far from you in a village beginning with D. I was away in Boston last weekend and we had lovely weather - sunny and 22 on Tuesday. Then I landed into gloom on Wednesday.

OhBeAFineGuyKissMe · 10/11/2024 07:30

There is no let up for us. Maybe a glimmer on sunlight on Friday.

OhBeAFineGuyKissMe · 10/11/2024 07:40

Saying that, that forecast is at odd with the others I looked at - BBC, met office and AccuWeather. They all have sunlight on Monday so 🤞🏻

GloriaSmud · 10/11/2024 07:51

OhBeAFineGuyKissMe The metoffice have us down for 'mist' all day here but we have sighting of some blue sky through the light cloud here (Leicester) this morning, so let's hope it's the end of the murky stuff for a few days.

Oh ❄️☃️⛄️❄️
Exciting. When I moved to NE England 30 odd years ago, we were almost guaranteed snow in November and January. Coming from wet and warm NI, that was amazing

nannynick · 10/11/2024 15:28

A few recent GFS runs have been showing snow in the M4 corridor area. 06:00z run today shows 10cm+ snow depth on Sun 24th Nov, 06:00.
GFS is snow happy though isn't it? Plus 24th Nov is quite far out, so much can change.
