So in a few weeks time (1st September), it’s the start of meteorological Autumn. TheWeatherOutlook has some early thoughts about it here and Netweather’s thoughts are here.

Chilly is ok, endless wet days/storms ~ not wanted.

Autumn 2024 weather

Is a chilly autumn more likely than in recent years?

I got absolutely drenched on the walk into work this morning and I’ve been cold all day. I’m home now, in my jammies with a dog snuggle don my knee with the fire on.

countrygirl99 · 14/10/2024 17:41

Don't worry everyone. I've just bought a warm rug for my elderly horse so we are bound to have an unseasonably warm spell.

Thank you.

Mid October and still lots of green trees, though there seems to be a slight tingle on some of those now. Lots of really red/orange/yellow trees about too.

I need a dry spell to finish some DIY.

There is a brief warm spell forecast and it's all your fault 😉

Thank you for thinking of us all. I hope horse-y is just as grateful and doesn't mucky it up.

It's quite weird atm, one evening we are shivering like naked polar bears and the next we are in tshirts, then back to shivering. Once upon a time I would have considered we were fighting an illness but stray cat is also being very snuggly.

countrygirl99 · 15/10/2024 15:51

No chance the rug won't get muddy, as soon as he's turned out he will have a good roll in the most disgustingly filthy place he can find. Bonus points if there's a poo.

Pixiedust1234 · 15/10/2024 16:05

Perhaps you can give it to me to wear instead. I'll be very grateful and I promise not to roll in any poo 😬

justasking111 · 15/10/2024 16:27

Husband off to Llanradear yn mochant tomorrow. Biblical rain forecast tomorrow. He's in for a soaking going round the farms. 🙈

justasking111 · 15/10/2024 16:29

Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant

Sorry can never spell it. You'll all know it because Hugh Grant went up a hill and came down a mountain there. Sweet film

GloriaSmud · 15/10/2024 19:23

Signing in from a static caravan between Sidmouth and Exmouth, where we've got torrential rain that's started in the last 20 minutes. We're right under the yellow weather warning the met office have issued and expecting rain until the end of tomorrow. Looking at the way the rain is beating against the windows, I'm not risking sticking my head out of the caravan door at the moment!

Storm Ashley is dropping in on us this Sunday. We're on the edge of it with gusts of 51 mph. Looking worse further North

RafaistheKingofClay · 18/10/2024 16:28

I seem to have a vague memory of you nearly get flooded or frozen there before @GloriaSmud.

Tomorrow looking OK. Sunday looks horrible so may be hibernating. This has not been a good week for starting to get out and about again.

MotherOfCatBoy · 18/10/2024 20:10

We have chosen this weekend to walk in Anglesey again!
If Sunday is as bad as currently forecast we will probably skip the route for that day and stay in hotel/ pub. Blustery is one thing but flying debris and coastal paths don’t go well together!

GloriaSmud · 18/10/2024 20:14

Yes @RafaistheKingofClay , that's us! We're always in the Sidmouth/Exmouth area for a week, around this time of year. Last year, Storm Babet hit while we were down this way. In the last few years though, we've almost come to expect having to spend at least one day at the caravan, watching rain beat against the windows!

Stay in the pub, you'll get sand blaster otherwise

Oh feck, just realized we've been upgraded to an amber warning tomorrow. 66 mph from the Southwest at its peak. We have no protection when the wind comes from that direction.

You do have spectacular storms. It's funnelling it's way up to us.

We had wind unexpectedly yesterday planters blew over at the front of the house, an hour of gusts before the rain came. We're on flood warnings now. Second time this week. Husband had two diversions on his trip back from Powys on Wednesday.

Igneococcus · 19/10/2024 09:03

I've only just had my dormer roof repaired that was damaged in one of the storms in the week before last Christmas. It took me eight month to find someone to do it.
Friday morning was windy here but not that much worse than what we often get. I hope all the people who are in town for the National Mod get away before Ashley arrives.

OhBeAFineGuyKissMe · 19/10/2024 16:39

Very strong winds forecast to hit Ireland and west of Scotland tomorrow.

I saw that us Celtic folks are going to endure quite a battering.

JoyAngerOut · 19/10/2024 19:16

I’m worried about all the rain falling already saturated land.

justasking111 · 19/10/2024 19:41

Flood warnings this evening for us

Normally I would thank you for that kind of link @justasking111 but it took me an awfully long time to scroll through England's warnings 😱 Stay safe everyone ❤
