Same here. It’s actually brightening up from this morning though. But a couple of weather forecast have only recently caught up. So this morning there was still a bizarre combination of sunshine sharing an alongside an embedded yellow weather warning on AccuWeather. They seem to have changed it now.

I know I’m just repeating myself, but the weirdest thing is to adjust to the weather forecast never being accurate. Normally in July you would have a few days where you could safely go out without a jacket or an umbrella.

It’s quite strange not being able to plan anything at all. It was accurate for years and years. with hindsight it was really incredibly impressive, but I think we’ve talked about this on previous posts about snowstorms.

I was about to say full marks to anyone who can spot the Taylor Swift lyric in my post, but actually it’s screamingly obvious which line might be a song lyric even if you’re not a fan 😂

It's well south of us will clip south Wales and south west England before moving inland. There appears to be no wind to speak of but thunder and lightning is possible

Last night, Essex was expecting a lovely sunny day today. Mum and I were talking about how there was no rain forecast for a few days, on three different sites. The maps we saw did show it covering the west and Wales though.

it is very humid so I assume the brightening up is temporary.

justasking111 · 15/07/2024 14:12

It's really humid here. Guess who decided to strip the beds today 🙈

Aquarius1234 · 15/07/2024 22:20

Wettest summer is 30 years or something.

Wettest summer is 30 years or something.

From memory I think 2012 was worse. But I don’t think spring 2012 was so bad.

It is so muggy and disgusting here. I’m honestly wondering if winter might seem better this year just purely because spring and summer have been so grim. And you have more control over your environment when you’re indoors.

My hayfever is absolutely bloody awful despite strong pills. All this rain mother nature is absolutely thriving 😭

socks1107 · 16/07/2024 08:12

Our forecast is lovely, low 20s with broken sunshine and on Friday 29 degrees!

Delatron · 16/07/2024 09:33

A random 1 day heatwave on Friday!

I would be happy with mid 20s and settled. Not these wild fluctuations (mainly crap then too hot for most).

justasking111 · 16/07/2024 09:58

North Wales max temperature 19c this month. SE is looking better

MouseofCommons · 16/07/2024 10:00

Still grey and muggy in North Hampshire. WFH today so I'm staring at the sky hoping for a slither of blue sky.

Lovely sunny day here, finally. Hit and miss for the weekend but I'll take whatever is going

justasking111 · 17/07/2024 21:40

Been a nice day here until a horse fly munched on me 🤬

@EmeraldRoulette Hear hear.

I'm a gardener and I've been noticing this for months. Never known anything like it and I've been doing this job a long time.

I wish the met office or someone would admit accurate forecasting has fallen off a cliff and explain why it's much more often wrong than it used to be.

I spray my clothes with Avon skin so soft on hot days. It smells like a perfume but repels everything including the vicious horse fly.

spikeandbuffy · 18/07/2024 15:09

20c here and raining, so muggy

EmeraldRoulette · 18/07/2024 19:12

@justasking111 Oh no, I hope it’s not too painful.

@FlowerpotZen Thanks that’s interesting to hear from somebody who is probably much more affected by it than I am, with you being a gardener. I would just really like to know what’s changed because I’m quite sure something has! Love the username btw.

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 19/07/2024 09:17

I'm a long-time working gardener too and the weather does seem to be increasingly messed up, this year especially so.

For me, 2012-13 was bad for rain, but we're having longer wet periods and longer hot and dry periods. And there aren't as many frosts. I'd also like to put in an order for more snow as, when conditions are right, it soaks into the soil very slowly rather than deluging it.

GloriaSmud · 19/07/2024 12:16

Today could be the hottest day of the year so far.

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast ~ as an allotmenteer, I feel your pain. It's been too wet a winter (along with not enough frosts), a too wet/cold Spring and Summer has been slow to get going. One plot-holder said that for the first time, he'd had to use slug pellets around his onions ~ they've had a great time of it this year!

A brief blast of summer heat

July has been a cool month so far, but today and tomorrow will be warm or hot in much of the UK
