I'm sure the Olympic summer was atrocious until the games started. Then downhill after they finished and we had an Indian Summer in Sept.

Got caught in the rain just now and had to put my brolly down when it started thundering. Heating is broken. Woe is me.

I recall it being like that too. Really bad until late July then nice and then a warm September. There's six or seven weeks of official summer yet. Time for it to warm up

Delatron · 07/07/2024 14:17

I hope so. I can’t remember the last time we had a good August but it must have happened! It was nice in 2002 😅.

Delatron · 07/07/2024 14:19

In a stroppy manner I don’t want a nice September. I’m over it by then and Autumn is on the horizon. Plus kids back at school, holidays over. But you can guarantee it will be lovely in September.

spikeandbuffy · 07/07/2024 14:26

Lovely(!)
My grass is like a swamp

Summer 2024
Stowickthevast · 07/07/2024 16:24

@Noosnom @socks1107 yes I remember that. We'd just moved area from a flat to a house with a garden for the first time. I had a baby and a toddler and could barely get outside, it was really miserable. Not the idyllic mat leave summer I'd been hoping for.

I think I read somewhere that week of 15 July is tentatively looking better?

I'm off to West France for a weekend break next weekend and it looks just as bad there. When we booked, I thought we'd be lying on a beach... Now I'm thinking I don't even need to bother waxing my legs!

Couldn't agree more!! I want to enjoy the weather in July and August, when September comes I'm over it and ready for Autumn.

My son said that it's been the best summer for kite surfing in years. He likes wind 😂

Every early evening the sun comes out. Then the rain returns

Evenstar · 09/07/2024 17:18

Torrential rain most of the day today in the north west and now we have thunder and lightning as well ☹️

MotherOfCatBoy · 09/07/2024 17:52

Rain for the last few days, and a bit close and muggy outside - inside it’s quite cool, I’m back to having cold feet again.
And it’s so dark… grey cloud and very little light in the sky.
DH tells me the Met Office say the Gulf Stream has wandered off south again, leaving us on the cold windy side. Bugger.

rewilded · 09/07/2024 19:40

It is like living in a snow globe but with eternal claustraphobic cloud and rain!

Lovely isn't it(!)

CannotFathome · 09/07/2024 21:46

We’ve had some thunder but it still feels really close out there. We are under a weather warning for more storms?

Shitweather2024 · 10/07/2024 00:39

It's July and our weather this year is one of the worst I've ever known. I've now got covid (you never hear about it in the news anymore) and 2nd time in 2 years (I am actually struggling with how poorly I am). I am now awaiting a cancer diagnosis too. I think if the weather picked I would be able to cope better. Good old, shite British weather at its finest.

ManyMaybes · 10/07/2024 07:44

What irritates me the most is how cloudy it is, constantly. For me the temperature is best in the low 20s, which is more or less what we have, but without any direct sun it is just a bit bleak - even when not raining!

justasking111 · 10/07/2024 08:48

Poor old Greece locking everyone in again because the temperature is climbing again to a level I couldn't cope with.

gingercat02 · 10/07/2024 11:02

@justasking111 we are in Portugal for that very reason, it's 25-29°c here.

We were meant to go to Rhodes last summer but got changed to Gran Canaria, because of the fires.

We thought we might go this year but looked at the 30+ predicted temps and decided not.

That bit of Europe looks like it is just too hot in the summer now, spring or autumn, maybe OK.

Greece is suffering this year. Agree with @gingercat02 I think Greece/mainland Spain and Turkey are too hot for July and August holidays these days.

We’re actually going to Lanzarote- which I thought may be too hot (it’s an active holiday) but with the wind it seems to hover around mid- high twenties and you get that breeze making it feel cooler.

My bar for this country is so low - I’d take some sunshine and low - mid twenties right now! I’d quite like to wear a pair of shorts and mow the lawn if it ever stops raining…

gingercat02 · 10/07/2024 12:23

Holidays (term time in particular) are going to get more scarce and, therefore, more expensive going forward.

Too hot in much of southern/eastern Europe, too grey and cold in the UK and northern Europe. (For me and my celtic skin but love of a bit of warmth, anyway)
.
Too warm for decent snow in short haul distances.

Sad times what we have done to the planet

MotherOfCatBoy · 10/07/2024 21:14

Sometimes I wonder what it will be like when there is no more snow and ice in Europe. What will the Alps be like in 50 years? I fear more rain and flooding on average.

justasking111 · 10/07/2024 21:23

A ski resort we know in Italy has a live webcam. It is usually brown grass at this time of year. Last week it was green verdant and flooded.

Yes lots of resorts will close down. I think US/Japan are good for skiing now (but out of reach for most).

EmeraldRoulette · 11/07/2024 15:34

A few pages ago, someone mentioned cloud seeding

glad it wasn’t me. People still think it’s made up! Science that’s been around for decades!

anyhoo. Strange claggy humidity with weird punctuation of cold here. Evenings have been cold. impossible to judge clothing or coat type if you are out a whole day.

Headache weather but change in pressure gives me headaches.

I’m hoping more spring like weather turns up but we’ll likely alternate between this and torrential rain till winter. It’s very weird.

Delatron · 13/07/2024 13:45

Still no warmth on the horizon. So we’ll be in to August. Which most often is crap.

Let’s hope it’s not this year. I don’t care for a warm September (though I’d take it)!.

Pixiedust1234 · 13/07/2024 15:33

Headache weather but change in pressure gives me headaches.

Oooohhhhh, that explains why my head feels like it's in a vice for the past 48 niurs but I have no other (covid type) symptoms. Temperature is reasonable, ie sitting here in a t-shirt but outside is grey, cloudy and damp. Even the birds look depressed.

Noosnom · 13/07/2024 15:58

Ah, I've taken some paracetamol for a very very rare headache. Maybe it's the pressure.
