While for many it is milder today, it will become colder again tomorrow. The main snow risk starts on Thursday where both GFS and ECM show a risk of snow in the south into the midlands and Wales, away from south eastern coastal counties. They both model a low moving in from the Azores, bumping into cold air.

GFS takes this right into northern England and parts of Scotland.

As always, early days and so there is lots of uncertainty. We await the next model run

@SquirmOfEels it seems excessive for the possibility of one day a year where the alternative is to stay home but you fill your boots. Obviously different if you live in remote Scotland and get regular snow.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/11/2023 10:02

First snow and ice warnings.

However, for those hoping for more later this week, it looks most likely that this will be a dry cold spell with snow showers for some from the east.

Snow watch.

And that's why we get so much trouble on the roads when it goes below freezing (ice is common, even if snow is rarer)

As with other infrastructure, where good mitigations exist but people don't want to go to the bother/expense of using them.

(Beast documentary good on these points)

Sleet has vanished from the London forecast. Still expected to be sub-zero even in the centre, which is unusually cold for a conurbation of this size

The Independent is getting a bit overexcited

Snow watch.

It is MUCH colder in Brussels today - finally dry and bright, but that comes at a cost! I think I will be buying a better coat this week (and possibly some boots...) as I don't think I can wait the 3 weeks for my truckload to come.

Janinejones · 28/11/2023 10:56

I was hoping to get some snow pics with only a days driving There and back from Oxford. That idea seems to have retreated northwards.

nannynick · 28/11/2023 14:26

Snow has started in North East Scotland by the coast.
That is the latest update from my mother. I have my own personal Snow Watcher :-)

Toottooot · 28/11/2023 14:28

Sna’in in parts of Aberdeenshire.

justasking111 · 28/11/2023 14:51

Heavy rain shower just now for Wales

InMySpareTime · 28/11/2023 15:02

Blue skies and washing out in Manchester!

SiobahnRoy · 28/11/2023 18:34

Forecast to snow throughout tonight here in County Durham according to the met office 😬

Desecratedcoconut · 28/11/2023 19:31

Oooh, yellow snow warning here - a phrase that had my youngest howling, potential snow on and off from 10pm to 6am - just looked on the met office matrix and it's a higher chance with a low impact - perfect, that'll do

Snowing SE Northumberland

Clear, cold and loads of stars in NW Northumberland. We're right on the edge of the yellow warning.

We had about 10 seconds of snow. NE coast near Newcastle

PotteringAlonggotkickedoutandhadtoreregister · 28/11/2023 21:18

I’m in Gateshead and we’ve got proper lying on the ground snow!

gingercat02 · 28/11/2023 22:03

I worked in the QE for years Pottering. You always get good snow. I had to dig my way INTO the staff parking one winter!

medianewbie · 28/11/2023 22:05

Just south of Berwick-Upon-Tweed on coast. Hailing hard most of day. Bitter.

NorthernGirlie · 28/11/2023 22:10

I'm in Sunderland. My friend has snow - a covering of her garden. We're 2 miles down the road - nearer the coast - and have none!

lostinwales · 28/11/2023 22:14

It snowed here, proper snow at least three flakes deep on the road at about 9pm, I got very excited as I was driving back to my house here. Your usual roving West Wales reporter signing in from the east coast of Yorkshire tonight, waves at @wineandmaltesershappyme

Please could everyone promise me that the M62 over to Manchester is going to be fine tomorrow afternoon. Or I will head over one of the passes, I'd rather do that than the motorways in inclement weather.
