While for many it is milder today, it will become colder again tomorrow. The main snow risk starts on Thursday where both GFS and ECM show a risk of snow in the south into the midlands and Wales, away from south eastern coastal counties. They both model a low moving in from the Azores, bumping into cold air.

GFS takes this right into northern England and parts of Scotland.

As always, early days and so there is lots of uncertainty. We await the next model run

Prep just in case it never hurts. We're forecast Thursday onwards so guess that's when I'll be getting out of the loft the Xmas decorations and we'll be introducing puppy to snow if it does happen.

@justasking111 I love that your prep for snow is getting the christmas decorations out 😂😂

we will be needing photos of puppy in the snow!!

Thank you Kitten and Gloria for all your research on our behalf ❄️☃️ 🛷

Place marking, my works christmas party is this Friday & snow could mean I end up going no where for fear of getting stuck!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 26/11/2023 20:12

It's fun watching the models at the moment, but they do all keep showing variations on a theme.

GFS shows buckets and buckets of snow. ECM shows a much shallower low and therefore just brings measles of snow in places. UKV shows nothing really for Thursday, but instead brings a snow/sleet/rain mix over the Midlands and East Anglia on Friday.

Theres a lot to resolve!

This sounds like my kinda prep. When I was in the 'nesting' stage with DD (the part where many extremely pregnant women find themselves bleaching skirting boards), I spent my time choosing new rugs from Heals.

In all seriousness, I have put in an extra food order for Tuesday with a bunch of warming/easy/wintry meals. Just... In...Case.

❄️ ❄️ ❄️

I am in London and we never get decent snow. Honestly it’s a real factor in my wanting to move out! Any chance this year?

Last time was Beast From The East - which I thought was about 5 minutes ago, but it was early 2018

Frost this morning, even in central London (where it's usually a few degrees warmer) so distinctly colderalready

Theimpossiblegirl · 26/11/2023 20:32

I'd love some snow! ❄️❄️❄️

The Beast from the east hour long documentary

I will be travelling to Swindon the train from Exeter on Wednesday and back on Thursday 😱 I don't fancy getting stranded near Swindon on a train!

Mojodojocasahaus · 26/11/2023 20:52

Oh god! I do usually like snow but I’m going to an event in Liverpool on Thursday night hope it’s all going to be ok

Unescorted · 26/11/2023 21:01

OYBBK thanks. That explains why the wine and toilet roll shelves in Aldi were empty 😋.
The source of the snow shadow gave us a frosty inversion on Saturday morning. I was double rugged on my way out but overdressed on the hill.

GloriaSmud · 27/11/2023 07:51

@CyberCritical Xmas Grin
Metoffice are giving us 'overcast changing to light snow by late morning' for Friday at the moment which looking at the latest GFS, is probably about right.

SquirmOfEels · 27/11/2023 09:18

London has sleet forecast for Friday early evening

So precipitation could go either way here!

BlackeyedSusan · 27/11/2023 09:36

AlwaysFreezing · 26/11/2023 11:29

Crikey, snow. Proper snow in the midlands?

we had proper snow in the midlands two years ago, in November. Still have photographic evidence.

CyberCritical · 27/11/2023 09:39

Yep, the midlands has had decent snow a few times over the last 10 years. DD and I had a great time a couple of years ago in November at the park building snowmen and drinking hot chocolate.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/11/2023 10:01

Sadness!

Only GFS is showing snow for Thursday now and even then, it's a horrid mix of rain, sleet and snow as the low pressure is modelled further south. The other models don't develop the low pressure in the same way and keep it south of us.

Snow showers possible in eastern areas on Friday.

😭😭😭

countrygirl99 · 27/11/2023 10:07

Not sadness for me. I'm not keen on having to defrost the barn water supply with a hairdryer at 6am or breaking the ice on water troughs. And I have a 2 hour round trip to care for my elderly mum at least a couple of times a week.

LoreleiG · 27/11/2023 10:10

Following although I live in a useless place for snow!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/11/2023 10:12

Countrygirl It means that the warmer air that would have come with the low pressure doesn't make it as far north, so I'm afraid it won't make that much difference to your potential ice issue.

Looking like we're missing out now 😭

lochmaree · 27/11/2023 10:47

any in Somerset? my DS would be delighted!

piscofrisco · 27/11/2023 10:54

Oh man. We are having a big party in a marquee for our DD's 18th on Saturday. For once in my life I actualy don't want snow 🫣

countrygirl99 · 27/11/2023 11:26
