While for many it is milder today, it will become colder again tomorrow. The main snow risk starts on Thursday where both GFS and ECM show a risk of snow in the south into the midlands and Wales, away from south eastern coastal counties. They both model a low moving in from the Azores, bumping into cold air.

GFS takes this right into northern England and parts of Scotland.

As always, early days and so there is lots of uncertainty. We await the next model run

Oooh! ❄️

SerpentEndBench · 26/11/2023 08:46

Thank you OYBBK.

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 26/11/2023 11:14

Thank you, Kitten!

BiddyPop · 26/11/2023 11:27

Does it look like the snow "shadow" of previous years. Where NE winds come down over Isle of Man and create showers that dump on Dublin, could happen again?

BiddyPop · 26/11/2023 11:28

And thank you OYBBK (and Gloria on Winter thread) for watching out for us all!

PotteringAlonggotkickedoutandhadtoreregister · 26/11/2023 11:28

We had snow yesterday! NE. It wasn’t a lot, just a few flakes in the air. But enough that you stopped and went “what’s that?” Followed quickly by “oh heck, they’re snow flakes!”

AlwaysFreezing · 26/11/2023 11:29

Crikey, snow. Proper snow in the midlands?

CleverClogg · 26/11/2023 11:29

wow! exciting! Thank you @OhYouBadBadKitten

BellaTheDarkOverlord · 26/11/2023 11:30

It keeps changing the forecast here but wondering if we’ll actually get a white Christmas this year.

NutcrackerSweety · 26/11/2023 11:53

Favourite thread every year! @OhYouBadBadKitten thank you

GloriaSmud · 26/11/2023 14:13

That's an interesting low that crosses the country on Thursday! Possibility of❄❄for some.
Thoughts from Netweather reflects the uncertainty of where/what might happen though.

And TheWeatherOutlook says ~ Forecast details for Thursday are very uncertain, but an area of low pressure is expected to bring a risk of rain, sleet and snow. Rain is considered likely in south western Britain, with a greater chance of snow in central and northern areas. Moderate accumulations of snow are possible in places, especially over high ground.

Week Ahead: Cold with wintry showers, overnight frost, snow risk in the south Thursday

A look at what will be a be a generally cold week ahead. Rain clearing south Monday then turning colder from the northeast into Tuesday. Many places staying dry rest of the week, but there will be some wintry showers and potential for spell of rain, sl...

At the moment I wouldn't take these charts as any sort of guide. I'm not going to try and guess what might happen yet.

GFS is notorious for over forecasting snow, but it really does outdo itself with this chart.

Ooooh really hoping for snow in Essex! 😍❄☃

Pixiedust1234 · 26/11/2023 14:53

It has certainly got very cold here the last two nights and it did make me think it might be tipping over into snow weather soon. Seems my bones might be right 😯

BethDuttonsTwin · 26/11/2023 15:08

❄️ ❄️ ❄️

I am in London and we never get decent snow. Honestly it’s a real factor in my wanting to move out! Any chance this year?

justasking111 · 26/11/2023 15:11

Prep just in case it never hurts. We're forecast Thursday onwards so guess that's when I'll be getting out of the loft the Xmas decorations and we'll be introducing puppy to snow if it does happen.

Janinejones · 26/11/2023 15:13

Hi Kitten, I usually find that here in Oxfordshire we tend to get better weather than the forecast. So IMO unlikely to see snow. Probably Derby or Notts the limit.
However to contradict myself, we have had that funny light that often precedes snow.

justasking111 · 26/11/2023 15:14

Can anyone else smell snow coming. I knew a family member years ago who did

Janinejones · 26/11/2023 15:25

@justasking111 , I had forgotten that smell. I think it is about a change in moisture content of the air. Lived in South of England too much not enough to keep my senses tuned.

Mummapenguin20 · 26/11/2023 15:27

Oooo gunna watch this thread

PatronLover · 26/11/2023 15:33

On Thursday, 30th November it is 13 years since the day South London, Surrey and Sussex were hit with inches and inches of thick heavy snow that fell from 10am for 12 hours + and gridlocked the region. Now, if it's likely to snow, I stay home. Not getting caught like that again.

CyberCritical · 26/11/2023 16:15

This thread prompted me to take DD to get new wellies, she's got giant and fast growing feet so I was putting it off as long as possible but if icy pavements are possible this week then she needs something that will stick to the floor.

@GloriaSmud you and I are in the same area so I'm going to be stalking your posts for a heads up 😂
