While for many it is milder today, it will become colder again tomorrow. The main snow risk starts on Thursday where both GFS and ECM show a risk of snow in the south into the midlands and Wales, away from south eastern coastal counties. They both model a low moving in from the Azores, bumping into cold air.

GFS takes this right into northern England and parts of Scotland.

As always, early days and so there is lots of uncertainty. We await the next model run

Situation has changed very quickly here in Bradford. Collected kids early from school & now all home for the night.

Belovedbagle · 08/02/2024 14:10

Ironically we're skiing in France and there's no bloody snow!

TheLiloAndTheSlowCooker · 08/02/2024 14:25

Yes, heavy snow since this morning's school run here in West Yorks. Started settling mid morning and schools generally closing early/roads getting covered/traffic problems happening now.

Wanttobeok · 08/02/2024 14:41

Now stopped snowing in South Yorkshire but schools closed at lunchtime when it was already too late and public transport cancelled/roads gridlocked. DC still not home!

My cross country sources tell me it is cold and dry in Scotland, cold and snowing in Leeds and cold and raining in London. I'm glad I am the Scottish source!

London's got a break in the rain at the moment, but it's forecast to start up again at 5ish. It's not cold (though the damp makes it feel worse) about 10C

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 08/02/2024 15:23

STILL just rain here although from the looks of the sky the North York Moors must be under snow. Can't see the Wolds either, but it might just be rain for them.

prettycosmos · 08/02/2024 16:18

well, we had plenty of snow in Sheffield. I went in to work this monring (had to really, I'm a doctor and had to get to ward) and it was just raining. By 9.30 was turning to snow and by 11 there was a siginficant ground cover. we decied to start sending some staff (and those who can work from home)home. I left at 12 and it took me 3 hours to do what is usually a 30-40 minute journey. At some parts I did think I was going to have to abandon the car but did eventaully make it.Meanwhile dc(18 and 15) school shut at 1, they had to walk home (3 miles) as busses had all stopped, they weren't impressed! I hate snow on a work day as it casues me so much extra stress. Ironically now Im finally home it is raining again, and prob roads will be cleared in a couple of hours so maybe I should have waited!

Pixiedust1234 · 08/02/2024 17:12

I got enough snow to cover the car bonnet and windscreen. It couldn't be bothered covering the roof or anywhere else. Whole street has white windscreens and that's it. Have we been rationed, and who decides?

Darkflame · 08/02/2024 17:49

Sadly all we got was in South Manchester/Trafford was horrid rain and some sleet. It tried to snow for 5 minutes at 11:30 but soon petered out back to crappy rain. Gutted!

Plump82 · 08/02/2024 17:50

We had the tiniest flakes at about 3 but it never came to anything. It's absolutely Baltic though. Not sure how accurate my phone is for temperature but it was saying real feel -8.

BlackeyedSusan · 08/02/2024 17:54

West Mids: (middle nearish Brum.)

It just pissed it down with rain.

RainbowZebraWarrior · 08/02/2024 18:10

Hope everyone who has had to travel arrives safely.

No pretty snow pics? I guess those tend to be more when we wake up to 'surprise' snow.

Still just stupid Easterly gusts here at Whitley Bay. There were some flakes mixed with rain at about 5pm. It tried its best to snow hard for about 10 minutes, but I think the Easterlies chased it away.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 08/02/2024 18:55

I'm glad to hear that those who had difficult journey's have made it home safely. It does show, that despite not everyone who was in an amber warning area was affected by disruptive snow, some were. The warnings were probably as granular as they could be, given uncertainty as to where exactly snow would lie and where it wouldn't. Though, for anyone who lives in Buxton - the answer is almost always 'yes - it will snow'!

And as for me. As was always forecast - rain. I've seen precisely no snow this winter. Sad

Just more bloody rain here.

Delatron · 08/02/2024 20:43

Yes it’s not been a good winter for snow for the south. The last lot went to France and this lot North. Missed us every time. It’s been a while since we had a good dump down here!

RainbowZebraWarrior · 25/02/2024 13:14

What's all this about a 'snowbomb' due to arrive 9 / 10 March? Is it all just tabloid tripe?

I'm guessing as that's two weeks away, it will be a wait and see scenario.

dickdarstardlymuttley · 25/02/2024 13:20

😳

nannynick · 25/02/2024 14:11

GFS run Sun 25/2/24 06:00Z looks keen for some snow on 2nd March. GFS seems to like predicting snow, on 13/02/24 it said I would have snow today... but I don't, and it's not even raining, just cloudy.
So tabloid tripe... probably. Wait until 5/6th March and maybe models will come to some agreement.

putanotherdimeinthejukeboxbaby · 25/02/2024 15:26

Last year it snowed for Crufts on 9 March, blooming nightmare! Hope it's not the same again this year.

Poblano · 25/02/2024 16:39

It snowed on March 8th last year here (Wales).

MirandaWest · 25/02/2024 18:28

I really hope there won’t be a snow bomb on 9/10 March in Inverness specifically as I am doing a half marathon there on 10th!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/02/2024 18:45

GFS has shown some snow for around 1/2 March but as NannyNick says, GFS can be overkeen on it. I wouldn't get too excited anyway- it would all just float away (she's says gloomily stuck under yet more rain).

Lets see if things come more clear over the next couple of days.

I can only find flurries in Wales, nowhere near us. Ireland looks much colder than us. We're getting rain at night, blue skies during the day

justasking111 · 28/02/2024 20:38

Well Leeds press is doing snowmaggedon again.

Looks like a low in the Irish sea, snow in Dublin, a smattering for us.

Anyone got a clue?
