While for many it is milder today, it will become colder again tomorrow. The main snow risk starts on Thursday where both GFS and ECM show a risk of snow in the south into the midlands and Wales, away from south eastern coastal counties. They both model a low moving in from the Azores, bumping into cold air.

GFS takes this right into northern England and parts of Scotland.

As always, early days and so there is lots of uncertainty. We await the next model run

Mild here still 13 degrees

GloriaSmud · 06/02/2024 17:09

Notonthestairs ~ I keep looking at the grass and thinking, 'mmm, that'll need cutting soon!'

It's been 12C most of the day but temperature's dropped to 8C in the last hour or two and it's raining. It's going to be a horrible evening.

Notonthestairs · 06/02/2024 17:13

My grass has been rippling like a wheat field in the wind! The first mow is going to be very hard work!

justasking111 · 06/02/2024 21:34

I got wet going to and from the pharmacy. Then coming out of the supermarket torrential rain I got soaked through. My shopping got soaked before I managed to get it in the boot. I got home reversed into garage and put stuff in the outside fridge. Then made a dash for the house with the bags getting wetter. I've coat and bags hanging on the radiators, I had to wipe down all the shopping. Got changed.

Tonight got in the car to move it and got a wet bottom from the car seat. The car misted up too 😭

Plump82 · 07/02/2024 05:40

Well have woke up to snow this morning. Wasn't expecting it today! Forecast was from tomorrow. It's lying on the cars but nothing on the pavements or roads...yet!

GloriaSmud · 07/02/2024 06:32

Notonthestairs ~ Grin

justasking111 ~ oh dear, sometimes the weather does seem to conspire against you.

Plump82 ~ lucky you (unless you need to be somewhere and don't need the snow!)

Metoffice say heavy snow tomorrow for us here (Leicester) tomorrow and from the GFS, I can see why but it's looking a bit marginal so we'll see what we get.

For England and Wales, although chilly, it's looks like it's going to be quite a nice day. Scotland is covered under a snow warning though so there could be snow showers at times there.

Plump82 · 07/02/2024 06:57

@Notonthestairs I WFH so fine for today but have an early flight on Friday so I'm hoping it doesn't come to much. Typical that I was hoping for a wintery city break away but it snows here (I'm in Scotland)and it's forecast 14 degree's where I'm going!!

beenrumbled · 07/02/2024 09:24

We have decided to cut our break short and head home today rather than risk the top end of the M6 and Shap Summit tomorrow.

Gutted but after our windermere experience in December we are being cautious

Met office notification has just flashed up for an Amber warning but its not on the app, did anyone else get this?

Its showing on the website for a chunk of wales and the midlands on thursday

ListenLinda · 07/02/2024 09:57

Thanks. My area falls under it for tomorrow.

RainbowZebraWarrior · 07/02/2024 10:09

It will be interesting (as always) to see how this actually pans out. I'm right on the NE coast of England, so not quite covered by the warning, however, it doesnt always work like that.

Zero degrees and blue skies here today. Tempted to do some hedge trimming.

ListenLinda · 07/02/2024 10:10

Our house falls under Amber warning, school under the yellow 🙈 I can see an early finish tomorrow for the kids.

SequentialAnalyst · 07/02/2024 11:02

I'm in NE England as well, and am just inside the snow area. The coast is outside it. I think the NE England coast gets snow when there are streamers coming in from the North Sea, but as this is coming from the West, I'm guessing @RainbowZebraWarrior is more likely not to get snow this time.

justasking111 · 07/02/2024 11:13

Our coastline is outside the amber area have to go inland or West. Which is normal for us. Our schools close because many teachers live in the amber areas or have to drive through them.

Xiaoxiong · 07/02/2024 11:25

Argh. Taking a coachload of 20 year 7 and 8s from London to Beverley tomorrow morning!! I'm hoping the snow warnings are over-hyped this time...

Snow and ice warnings - including those amber warnings. Snow upwards of 10cm - and much higher up on the hills is expected widely across those warning areas. In amber areas do not travel unless essential - you are likely to get stuck! In yellow areas, use common sense and remember how rubbish we are at snow in this country!

Updated weather warnings ~ this is for tomorrow but might still change.

Xiaoxiong ~ at the moment, it looks like you should be ok. You might see some sleety stuff and something wintry/a slight covering while there but hopefully that's it. It'll probably be a rather wet journey back though as London is under a warning for rain tomorrow.

beenrumbled ~ that's probably a wise move.

GloriaSmud · 07/02/2024 11:43

And what OYBBK says as well!

Xiaoxiong · 07/02/2024 11:47

@GloriaSmud thanks for the reassurance!! We're driving London-Beverley Thursday, then Friday Beverley-Selby and later Friday Selby-Harrogate. The latter two appear to be in the yellow warning area but hopefully it will mostly fall overnight and mostly just be a bit wet!!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/02/2024 11:47

Southern England sees lots of rain Thursday/Friday. I want snow. Sad

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/02/2024 11:52

Xiaoxiong - good luck! I would be slightly anxious about tomorrow. I hope it runs smoothly for you. I think that flooded minor roads might be a bit of a concern on Friday.

mickeymoist · 07/02/2024 11:53

Oxfordshire here, most likely to miss everything dramatic. If Leicester gets snow then I would drive up for some pics. Not expecting it though with temps and pressure as they are.

GloriaSmud · 07/02/2024 12:02

Xiaoxiong ~ ah yes, that makes things a bit different. As OYBBK says, it is looking rather wet over the next day or two ~ if it isn't snow, it's rain. Hope you all have a good trip.
