Old thread:https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/weather/4767111-spring-weather-watch?page=6&reply=126854914

After the dramatic weather for some over the last few days, mostly covered in the Thunderstorm warning threads, I think it's time to switch to a new thread. After all, we are two weeks into meteorological summer.

Page 24 | Spring Weather watch | Mumsnet

Optimistically we turn our eyes towards Spring weather in the hope that we are in the last throes of winter. But March is a capricious month. ... It...

General outlook.

Some storm warnings for Northern Ireland and the NW of Scotland. These could be locally quite severe with the main hazard being torrential rain, lightning and hail also potential issues. https://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/warnings-and-advice/uk-warnings#?date=2023-06-13

In general, a settled hot day today. Back to the potential issue of low cloud and haar over eastern coastal counties.

The possibility of a few showers starting to crop up by the weekend, but really nothing useful showing at the moment. The outlook is for hot and settled.

If you've any commentary to make on yesterdays rather violent storms then we are talking about them over here.

Good morning OBBYK, thanks for the new thread.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/06/2023 07:55

Morning Emma!

Fun fact. 13th June is the only summer day to have never recorded 30c somewhere in the country. After today, that might not be true. It'll be tight though!

Thanks for the new thread, Kitten!

We did have a thunderstorm and rain last night after all. Three nights in a row, eh. Not bad.

AmbleInAnnBoleyn · 13/06/2023 08:05

Thanks for the new thread OYBBK.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/06/2023 08:18

That seems a little selfish Undruidly Grin Are you feeling a little sleep deprived?

For those new to these threads, I should probably state that @GloriaSmud and I are not professional meteorologists. We are enthusiastic amateurs who attempt to share our love of all things weather with others. We fit this in around work and busy family lives. Sometimes of course this means we aren't around at all on the threads for a few days.

I'd always ask that people refer to the Met Office for official forecasts, especially during severe weather and when the forecast really matters to you.

Thankfully the storms arrived between 7-9pm, Kitten, so I was able to go to bed at the usual time. They were perfectly timed 😀

justasking111 · 13/06/2023 08:29

Well it did rain properly in N Wales. Overcast and muggy this morning. Lots of pollen about. The dog has sneezles when he comes back from walks at the moment.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/06/2023 09:04

of of course they did UnDruidly. I wasn't thinking! That is very well behaved of them.

A large part of southern England still has managed to record no rainfall for close on a month now.

Yes, that's us in my part of Essex. I was in London yesterday and there were a couple of lovely if brief thunderstorms with some rain, but it didn't clear the air.

It feels much fresher now

GloriaSmud · 13/06/2023 10:32

Yay - I was thinking yesterday perhaps a summer thread was needed!

So summer thoughts from Netweather and The Weather Outlook.

Checking in! We had some slate delivered for our front garden about 3 weeks ago and I have been waiting for rain to wash the dust off and leave it looking lovely. Well, it bucketed it down last night, revealing that the slate isn't a very nice colour after all! Boo!

TheOnlyMrsW · 13/06/2023 13:50

No rain here unfortunately - my car is covered in Download dust and I don't want to wash it!!!! Very very warm still and forecast to be this way all week, East Lancs

What does "Download dust" mean please?

InMySpareTime · 13/06/2023 14:29

Download is an outdoor music festival which will have been very dusty.

InMySpareTime · 13/06/2023 14:31

@EmmaEmerald

https://downloadfestival.co.uk/

GloriaSmud · 13/06/2023 14:39

Download is also very loud (as people in Derby, 9 or so miles away, found out at the weekend!)

UnDruidlyWords · 13/06/2023 14:45

I can imagine, Gloria! In the 1980s I lived a few miles from Glastonbury and we heard it all loud and clear.

EmmaEmerald · 13/06/2023 15:02

I did immediately think of the festival but didn't realise that meant dust! How strange, and annoying for locals.

In other news, 13th June was the only summer day that hadn't ever recorded 30c+

Today, that is no longer true. Porthmadog has toppled that fact. 30.2c recorded.
