Old thread:https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/weather/4767111-spring-weather-watch?page=6&reply=126854914

After the dramatic weather for some over the last few days, mostly covered in the Thunderstorm warning threads, I think it's time to switch to a new thread. After all, we are two weeks into meteorological summer.

Optimistically we turn our eyes towards Spring weather in the hope that we are in the last throes of winter. But March is a capricious month. ... It...

There are some indications that we may be about to transition to cooler, more unsettled conditions as we go into next week.
I guess this sunshine can't last forever.

I do hope you’re right - the constant heat is really getting to me.

Piggywaspushed · 22/06/2023 18:02

Big storm and flooding in Beds again! Wild!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 22/06/2023 20:03

The storms do seem to keep ending up in similar locations each time!

I'm in mid bucks (I think), and my friend asked me if I was having the torrential hail she was having whilst I was sitting in the garden enjoying the sunshine. Looks like it just skirted me.

I’d planned a lovely evening in a pub garden and it started thundering with heavy rain just as we were leaving. Bit annoying. Seems very local. But we keep getting hit here!!

GloriaSmud · 23/06/2023 15:24

I'm wondering whether the metoffice might issue rain and storm warnings for Sunday - it's looking like it could be another thundery day.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 23/06/2023 16:20

I was just coming on here to talk about that Gloria. I agree with you.

As high pressure relents to the west of us, the weather becomes more westerly dominated. With that, cooler air (though still pretty warm because of how hot the sea is) sweeps across. That cold front could leave to some very sharp thunderstorms on Sunday, particularly into the the afternoon and evening. The greatest risk for these storms seems to be the northern Midland northwards and probably towards the east coast.

Into next week we will have a cooler, more mobile set up than of late, with the risk of showers, heavy at times. Probably still feeling pretty muggy and warm though.

As a mother with a newly passed driver travelling from n Wales to Leeds on Sunday afternoon, I'm hoping he doesn't get caught in heavy rain. 🙈

Good luck to him! I guess with thunderstorms, he can at least look at the radar and hole up in a service station if needed.

I'm off to see P!nk in Hyde Park tomorrow. Sun hat and cream in bag and the eternal dilemma of what to wear.

heldinadream · 23/06/2023 18:17

@OhYouBadBadKitten I've been looking at lightning maps and there is a horrific looking swathe of storm happening across Europe from Northern Italy across Slovenia and Southern Austria down through Croatia and Albania and across Hungary, Slovakia and Southern Poland all the way to Ukraine. It looks really bad but I'm no expert at interpreting lightning maps and I can't find much in terms of news except one report about Hungary. It looks really dramatic and it's quite shocked me. Any words of understanding or wisdom?
I'm sure it's climate change of course but I'm not sure how big or unusual it really is. Thanks.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 23/06/2023 23:21

Hi Held. I'll come back to this tomorrow. They have had some particularly severe storms.

OP posts:
heldinadream · 24/06/2023 07:42

Thanks Kitten. It's died down a lot this morning, still a large patch over Eastern Montenegro and Northern Albania and some other bits but honestly last night for a few hours it looked at though there was a single massive storm hundreds of miles long. Nothing like that now. I'll keep an eye on it though, got lightning maps open a lot at the moment.
Meanwhile here it's just still HOT and DRY! I'm in London this weekend I was in Sussex last week and enjoyed a brief storm and downfall, can't remember which day it was Sunday or Monday.

Lovely morning in North Wales!

Friday it was a little bit grey and rained a bit but not enough to be called heavy til we got off Anglesey and went round to the castle , we got drenched but kept walking and we were dry again quickly it was so warm.

Yesterday was grey in the morning at Criccieth and windy but we walked down the beach and round to Black Rock beach. It was a lovely if windswept walk but by the time we were walking the river at Betws y Coed it was sunny and hot.

We had a BBQ in the garden last night.

Not sure what the plans are today, maybe a walk to the Brenig or Alwen. Hopefully no storms til later!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/06/2023 08:50

That sounds lovely beenrumbled. You may well get a few rumbles later today. Grin

Got a walk in early this morning. Warm out there already.

gingercat02 · 25/06/2023 10:39

I reckon we had our hottest day so far yesterday. BBQ and Glastonbury outside until midnight with only a hoodie added for the last half hour or do.
Not eve a fire pit! DH was very disappointed 🤣.
Rarely known on the NE coast.

Still very warm and humid, quite overcast but the sun is starting to peek through. BBC app says thundery showers for the afternoon.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/06/2023 18:54

The return of the Westerlies, also means that smoke from the Canadian fires will be entering our part of the world in the next day or two. Look for some enhanced sunrises and sunsets this week.
