Spring Weather watch

Optimistically we turn our eyes towards Spring weather in the hope that we are in the last throes of winter. But March is a capricious month. ...

It looks like we've a fairly unsettled couple of weeks coming up overall, with plenty of showers and rain. I'm afraid wintry showers are still likely over northern hills for a time yet.

Water storage will be grateful for the rain and at least there's a chance of spectacular cumulus cloudscapes on showery days (as opposed to these grey gloomy days which frankly can sod off)

😂

Don't tempt me!

I see some electrical storms have turned up in parts of London this evening,

No lightning here, nowt on t'map. I'm high up so I can see it pretty far, which I like.
Except when you get sheet lightning right next to you....that's much more intimidating high up.

@justasking111 I'm one of those batshit heating on 24/7 people. I can use as many thick duvets as I like but they won't make any difference to the temperature of the air I'm breathing in.

I've got COPD and the medical recommendation is for a bedroom temp of 18 and living room temp of 21 if I want to try stay well.

COPD is a beast I'm sorry. My GP decades ago said the NHS would save so much money if he and others could send some of his patients abroad each winter to southern Spain to the hotels there.

PoseyFlump · 30/03/2023 07:21

Can we have some sunshine in the day and rain at night please?

Plit · 30/03/2023 09:03

It's beautiful if a bit windy here today in the SW. Really warm sun.

I'm selfishly hoping for a deluge though, as dd is entered into a riding competition next week and I want it to be cancelled! Its just been too wet and muddy to get her horse fit enough.

TokyoSushi · 30/03/2023 09:44

Awful here in Cheshire, again. Thick grey cloud, pouring rain, ugh. Hopefully it's filling up those reservoirs for our lovely summer.

Your deluge hit this bit of the sw just as I was waiting at the bus stop. 😭

I didn’t bring a change of clothes with me because it looked beautiful. Hopefully scrubs dry quickly on a bus. 😂

Checked the reservoirs yesterday. And yes they're looking a lot healthier in Wales level wise 👍

The contingency planners outlook is out and although April looks to be most likely an average April, then a warmer May/June is more likely than a cool one.

I should have said that it also says that wetter weather is likely to keep tracking further south than usual through April.

Probably not a terrible idea to look for slug nematodes if you live in the south and are a keen gardener.

I’m still traumatised from last year’s slug in the dishwasher incident.

I’d feel bad if I put nemotodes on the grass near the house but I deliberately didn’t use them in that bit of the garden last year and the slimy little bastards took advantage and invaded the house. Can you use nemotodes in a kitchen?

EmmaEmerald · 31/03/2023 01:18

Rafa blimey. Did they get washed?!

redrumclub · 31/03/2023 07:32

The forecasts are looking much more positive this morning, they've put me in a good mood so let's hope it stays a bit dryer like they are saying Smile

RafaistheKingofClay · 31/03/2023 08:10

No, because I discovered it when I went to put something in it and put my hand on a slug. Envy

Quite wet and windy down here this morning. But massively reduced the time the heating is on for now.

Tricyrtis2022 · 31/03/2023 09:05

My worst slug experience was finding one in the toes of my wellington boot, which had been in the porch. By an amazing stroke of luck, I happened to look into the boot before putting it on and saw the slime trail. The slug was curled up in the toe area. Imagine putting your foot in...

Oh, good that it didn't get washed!

wet and windy is an understatement here today.

PickupperPenguin · 31/03/2023 10:56

My worst slug experience is hands-down standing on one barefoot in the dark at my PILs’
house. 🤢 They’re so cold. <shudder>

Thank you for the recommendation re. nematodes, OYBBK!

megletthesecond · 31/03/2023 15:18

I don't think we've had a single nice spring day in Hampshire this month. I know we've had previous years with some lovely spring days.

nannynick · 01/04/2023 08:19

Lots of rain yesterday and overnight.
Now seeing pictures appear of local roads with varying amounts of water on them.

I used nematodes last year as my dog kept eating slugs and it definitely helped. Forgot this year so off to order some !

stillherenow · 01/04/2023 09:41

Very wet here but after the next hour the forecast seems to say dry for the foreseeable and even has pics of sun!

Hedjwitch · 01/04/2023 10:14

We have sunshine forecast for Monday. Fingers crossed. Its cold and wet today and raining so off for a swim in the sea as cant get any wetter
