Spring Weather watch

Optimistically we turn our eyes towards Spring weather in the hope that we are in the last throes of winter. But March is a capricious month. ...

It looks like we've a fairly unsettled couple of weeks coming up overall, with plenty of showers and rain. I'm afraid wintry showers are still likely over northern hills for a time yet.

Water storage will be grateful for the rain and at least there's a chance of spectacular cumulus cloudscapes on showery days (as opposed to these grey gloomy days which frankly can sod off)

Settling myself in this thread, awaiting brighter days. Yesterday a neighbour mowed their lawn but mine is still underwater 😣

thesandwich · 20/03/2023 09:51

Checking in! Thanks @OhYouBadBadKitten hoping my magnolia buds have survived the frosts and snow!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 20/03/2023 10:17

My camellia flowers do look very unhappy. I can hear sad little plops as they fall off and hit the ground. I don't think they've enjoyed this winter/spring transition.

Desperate for this seemingly endless rain and cold to stop. March is a miserable month

Makinglists · 20/03/2023 10:25

Thank you

leesmum · 20/03/2023 10:49

Love the change in seasons ☀🐣🌼

Notonthestairs · 20/03/2023 11:02

Leaping into this thread and Spring. Bring on the sunshine ☀️

NewBootsAndRanty · 20/03/2023 11:45

Thanks OYBBK! And happy equinox!

Plit · 20/03/2023 11:47

I have horses, on clay soil. I'm not joking when I say I actually got teary last night at the prospect of a fortnight of rain. Its now too wet to drive to our stables so I have to push hay up bale by bale in a wheelbarrow.

I feel you on this! I keep checking my weather in the hope the rains goes away and the fields can dry

Why don't you get yourself a sledge (or even pop it in a big bulk bag) and pull it. I have a pull along garden trolley for mine, that is definitely easier than pushing a barrow. Fingers crossed for drier weather soon.

cormorant5 · 20/03/2023 12:47

@Plit Why are you not using a horse to carry stuff or drag a sledge ?
They invented pack saddles and travois a thousand years ago!

megletthesecond · 20/03/2023 12:53

I could do with a few breaks in the showers for laundry drying.

TrombonesAreNotBones · 20/03/2023 13:16

Thank you for the new thread OYBBK.

GloriaSmud · 20/03/2023 13:23

A Spring Weather Watch thread (don't think we've ever had one of those before?) Could do with some dry days for digging the allotment.

Some Spring thoughts from TheWeatherOutlook and Netweather.

justasking111 · 20/03/2023 13:31

We've had a few showers in N Wales but no deluge yet. We've very windy weather forecast and big tides

I feel your pain. I have a very hairy cob on clay.

Join the club, it has been a very long winter. Fields ruined as they are about 6-8 inches of mud and still having to put hay out which then stops grass growing. Battling mud fever and everything is permanently wet.

Oh, yes to this. Mud fever, running out of hay. It's all hideous 😭😭

countrygirl99 · 20/03/2023 14:50

Interesting how many horse owners are on this thread. Can't think why 😄.

pussycatinfluffyslippers · 20/03/2023 16:13

@OhYouBadBadKitten about the Camellias, I've got 5 and only 2 have flowers left. The red ones and the plain pink dropped theirs in the v cold weather before Christmas. The white one is sheltered under a tree so has a few. The Pink/raspberry ripple one has quite a few flowers, but not as many as in previous years. 😿
I may have to invest in some fleece for them for next year. I don't want them to "get hurt" again next winter isywim. Blush

GloriaSmud · 20/03/2023 16:50

Sign of Spring - frogs have been busy in our pond! 🐸

thesandwich · 20/03/2023 19:19

Oooh ! I cleared most of the dead growth in our little pond and then we spotted literally clusters of up to 5 frogs at a time, ahem having fun, now leaving us with at least 3 clusters of frogspawn!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 20/03/2023 20:42

So bobbly Gloria Grin

I feel for all you horsey people. It must be a miserable battle at the moment.

I did see lots of bluebell leaves in some woods at the weekend.
