I've just driven home from Grimsby to Louth (A16) very gusty on the open bits but not too bad. Glad to be in though, considering our top gusts are around 60 mph it really makes you think about how much worse it is elsewhere.

It's all gone crazy and wild again in north London/Herts!

TallulahTumeric · 18/02/2022 17:59

Lincolnshire here.

Definitely picking up. Neighbour has a huge tree which she doesn't maintain which is swaying precariously towards my house. Asked her to get it sorted last time a large branch snapped off to which she replied that we need trees (not this big ugly one) and she's insured so it's fine. Ongoing battle with her - praying it doesn't fall. Though if it does and somehow doesn't damage anyone or anything I'll be round there in the morning screaming 'I told you so'.'

I was just coming on to say that! It was calming down and now the wind has picked up massively again! Reports of lots of trees falling down in streets and parks across our borough.
DrHildegardeLanstrom · 18/02/2022 18:02

We need to get our fence panels back in but it just can't be done right now

december212 · 18/02/2022 18:03

@52andblue so sorry to hear that. Hopefully the journey doesn’t drag out and you get home to your kids shortly.
Trains should give away blankets and chocolate as essential items! I’m sure my 5 year old Daughter would approve!

MikeWozniaksMohawk · 18/02/2022 18:03

A6 north of Buxton. A lorry blew onto an occupied car. Unbelievably, only minor injuries!

Seems calmer now - trying to decide if I should delay driving down the m5 to south coast of Cornwall tomorrow - any suggestions welcome!?

BestInterests · 18/02/2022 18:10

@52andblue - I'm so sorry, that sounds sad and awful. In fact, I know it is. Currently sat in Airport trying not to cry after visiting my dad who has dementia (sectioned, mental hospital, court case, the whole rodeo). Bit daft, but sending thoughts to you cos I know exactly that feeling

iRun2eatCake · 18/02/2022 18:10

@rattlemehearties

Due to drive to the East Midlands for the weekend but not sure whether it's safe, even tomorrow morning, would you drive this weekend *@OhYouBadBadKitten* ?
I'm Northampton and it's not been too bad at all. jinx's self

There's a yellow wind warning for all of Cornwall the whole of tomorrow. We've also got a lot of issues with power losses and debris. I'd delay it if you can.
HillsBesideTheSea · 18/02/2022 18:16

@MikeWozniaksMohawk yikes.

lifelongfrugaleer · 18/02/2022 18:17

I can confirm it is hideous in the tees valley north east England
Driving rain and cold big gusts

baroqueandblue · 18/02/2022 18:20

South East London here, checking in again. After what felt like the end, the winds have really got up again in the last 20 minutes or so. They seem more sustained than they were earlier, but perhaps not as quaking!

Bouledeneige · 18/02/2022 18:21

A 30 yr old woman has been killed by a tree as she was travelling in a car near me in north London.

rosesandbees · 18/02/2022 18:22

I did have to go out this morning, came home asap trees down across the dual carriageway, in town and all the other roads. Made it home and battened down the hatches before the really strong gusts hit North Bucks. Sadly we have lost a beautiful 150 year old tree in our garden this afternoon. Haven’t ventured out further but I’m sure there is lots more damage. Winds have definitely died down.
Thank you for keeping us up to date. Stay safe everyone.

MissMarplesGoddaughter · 18/02/2022 18:27

@baroqueandblue

I'm in south east London too and the wind has built up again and it's raining hard. I really hope it blows itself out by morning.

cheninblanc · 18/02/2022 18:32

We've got wind, hail and rain again in Kent. No power still and not expected till 1am ish

52andblue · 18/02/2022 18:37

Ah! @BestInterests I'm so sorry! Life can be really tough sometimes (my friend who is stage 4 also has MH probs & Sectioned twice in last 4 years, it was the right thing but you'd not wish it on anyone OR those that love them. Let's hope we both get home to put own beds tonight xx

Liamgallaghersparka · 18/02/2022 19:07

Picking up here in the north, hoping it's calmed down before my son does his paper round in the morning Confused

newnameforthehousehunt · 18/02/2022 19:14

Still billowing a gale here in Norfolk. The cat is desperate to go out but I’m still not sure.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 18/02/2022 19:24

Eventually I let my cat out. It was the quickest wee he's ever had.

It should start to ease for you over the next hour or so, apart from the occasional squally shower.

Sounds just like my dad. It's his birthday today and we have Covid in the house so I can't go to the care home to visit him. I've sobbed on and off all day. I feel for you, each visit is emotionally draining. Big hugs to you. X
