Just been out for a walk in East Sussex. The local tree surgeons are doing a roaring (pun intended) trade!

queenrollo · 18/02/2022 17:16

@thenightsky awful journey from Louth across the top there when the weather is bad. Don't envy you that!

pussycatunpickingcrossesagain · 18/02/2022 17:17

@FuzzyPuffling

Just "blowing in" from north Cornwall. Can't see out of my windows for the salt spray that has landed on them. From 5 miles away.
I'm in Crewe...I can't see out of my (back) windows either. Could it be the sea, d'ya think? 🤔 Seriously, they're coated in sand. Grin
WingBingo · 18/02/2022 17:19

Power has gone off in Devon AGAIN!

CPL593H · 18/02/2022 17:19

@Gladioli23

In Suffolk here, winds had calmed down a bit but they are making a horrible noise now, not sure if the direction has changed or something but it's feeling worse again at the moment.
Yep, NE Suffolk, windy since 7 and very windy with gusts since noon. I keep thinking it is abating then back it comes. I don't think I've ever seen clouds move as fast as they were a little while ago (seemed to be coming from WSW but I'm no expert)
DoctorSnortles · 18/02/2022 17:19
@DoctorSnortles we have one room in the house which seems to be sheltered from the noise of it al so my DS and DH are hiding out in there as they are both really quite unsettled by it all. I'm not exactly happy but feeling more able to cope with it so am on duty listening out for any omnious sounds. Are you Fens or Wolds? I'm in the Fen, nothing down here to stop the wind in it's tracks.
I’m Fen-wards. Have followed your advice and retreated to the quietest room, which is on the ground floor without a fireplace. The wind is roaring down the chimneys!

TimBoothseyes · 18/02/2022 17:21

I'm in Somerset and the winds have picked up again. We've just had an epic hailstorm.

Yes that makes sense - my garden faces south west and it's getting really battered - feels like my back door is going to blow in in spite of being locked 3 ways.

inigomontoyahwillcox · 18/02/2022 17:24

North Essex here (close to Suffolk/Cambridgeshire/Hertfordshire border), definitely picked up again.

lazarusb · 18/02/2022 17:24

Wind is still strong on the south east coast. Pleased dh got home safely. Awaiting my brother’s arrival from Essex but other than that, hunkering down for the evening now.

Rowgtfc72 · 18/02/2022 17:25

@thenightsky fortunately dh has only got to go as far as holton le clay and back this evening. Not too much of the A16 and none of the exposed bits thankfully.

MissMarplesGoddaughter · 18/02/2022 17:27

It's still very gusty in SE London. I hoped it would die down by now, but the gusts are strong.

timetochangeusername · 18/02/2022 17:27

Dog just went a bit nuts after being cooped in all day and is now in his bed glaring at me.

Will do a trot around the village early tomorrow and see how it looks

Ylfa · 18/02/2022 17:29

Mid suffolk here, lots of trees down and debris still swirling. Hate being scared, it’s over soon tho?

headache898 · 18/02/2022 17:29

It's been relatively quiet in east London. Do you think the worst is over or yet to come for this area?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 18/02/2022 17:34

@rattlemehearties

Due to drive to the East Midlands for the weekend but not sure whether it's safe, even tomorrow morning, would you drive this weekend *@OhYouBadBadKitten* ?
I'd keep an eye on highways twitter feeds, but I think I'd be fine with driving with extra care.

In Durham.
Massive gusts now after a calm period following snow earlier this afternoon.

Heavy metal fencing just flew off a massive lorry driving past and missed me by 2 feet. It would have smashed my legs in.
Please be careful out and about.

ponkydonkey · 18/02/2022 17:37

West of London market town

It's started again! Dog is out. Taking at the wind bless her

ponkydonkey · 18/02/2022 17:38

Barking

Madcats · 18/02/2022 17:39

It's calmed down in Bath, though the Parks department have a bit of work to do

I seem to have wasted half the day watching Big Jet TV!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 18/02/2022 17:47

Take care if you do decide to venture out there. It still has bursts of being very wild.

Generally the worst is over, but it could still have some pretty wild moments.

Wow!

I posted on the previous thread about how filthy the rain made my windows, but it never occurred to me that it might be salt spray. I'm 5 miles from the coast, as the crow flies.
