Hope they don't come across to this one now Confused

TeaandHobnobs · 18/02/2022 23:53

We’ve had a lot of trees come down on the Berks/Bucks border. Looks like our street escaped without too much damage, although we’ve lost a good 4 fence panels - which is frustrating when we are moving out in two weeks 😬 crossing my fingers I can find someone to fix it quickly! Or maybe persuade my kind neighbour to arrange it if I pay them for it

nannynick · 19/02/2022 06:08

Flat dropped to 14 degrees which isn't too bad. Power back 05:19. Have refilled a flask in case power goes off again. Nice warm cup of Brew

have you checked your fusebox?
has the storm damaged something that tripped one electric cycle?

Rebecca12356777 · 19/02/2022 08:13

@purplesequins

Yes all looks ok everything’s on? All my neighbours have the same issues and it’s reported on uk power networks but no time has been confirmed of when it will be fixed.

Rebecca12356777 · 19/02/2022 08:14

I have no clue about this kind of thing !

I’m not an electrician but I agree with purplesequins - have you checked your fusebox/consumer unit to see if the cut tripped any of the breakers?
notimagain · 19/02/2022 08:16

Ok I was a bit slow typing and have just seen your answer…good luck, hope it gets sorted PDQ.

JessieEssex · 19/02/2022 08:17

We lost power from 2pm - 12.30am (NW Essex) - the children thought tea and bath by candlelight was great fun but they're pretty pleased to have the WiFi back this morning!

Alrightqueenie · 19/02/2022 08:27

How is everyone? A couple of large mature trees came down at the end of the road but luckily missed cars and houses. It is calmer and still gusty but not as mad as yesterday. Dcat was frightened out of her wits and slept all day on the sofa.

caranations · 19/02/2022 09:53

Not all that much damage around our way thankfully, a neighbour's 8ft high wall came down and is blocking the footpath. Good job nobody was walking past at the time. Several trees down in the next street to us as well.

Mysterian · 19/02/2022 10:03

We lost 2 fence panels. One is the responsibility of the neighbours, and the other one was in dire need of replacement anyway. Plus, work shut so I had the day off.

Alrightqueenie · 19/02/2022 10:11

@Mysterian we always lost fence panels due to strong winds, luckily our new ones stayed put. We got lattice style fences and put a bamboo screen in front for privacy. The lattice style let's the wind pass through without falling down so a much better investment. It was costing £300-£400 every few years to replace the traditional panelled fences.

HesterShaw1 · 19/02/2022 10:13

Standard fence panels are really badly designed. They're like sails. Fine if you live in a place with no wind ever.

It's bastard windy again here (technical term). Just had 55mph.

drinkingwineoutofamug · 19/02/2022 10:19

Snowing ish in east Cheshire. Have warnings for snow/rain and heavy winds .
The radar looks interesting🙄

drinkingwineoutofamug · 19/02/2022 10:19

And next door are out pruning their roses 😂

HesterShaw1 · 19/02/2022 10:22

As you do!

BlackeyedSusan · 19/02/2022 10:46

Not been out yet so can't tell what happened but one of the local Wmids papers has pictures of a trampoline on a roof.

BunsyGirl · 19/02/2022 10:47

No power here in North West Essex. Been off since yesterday evening and U.K. power estimating that it won’t be back on until late tonight.

52andblue · 19/02/2022 10:48

My journey took around 12 hours in the end. Arrived LKX 9.30, managed to board a train at 11.30 then till -7.30 on train (LKX to Berwick upon Tweed). Then 90 mins drive (usually 60m) across narrow unlit roads deep into the Scottish Borders. I'd been hoping to do that in daylight as there are still trees down from Storm Arwen (when we lost power for 10 days & Southern Scotland / North East were badly hit: no Cobra meetings for that tho!). It was sleeting hard all the way so I was glad to get home. I made myself a huge cup of tea (with a big slug of whisky in it), a plate of cheese on toast & gladly went to my bed. I hope fellow travellers have a peaceful day today and all those cleaning up can make some progress.

purplesequins · 19/02/2022 10:59

we live iabout 3 miles inland from the sea and the windows on one side of the house are blind with salt spray. especially the loft windows.

SleepWalkingDoorSlammer · 19/02/2022 11:18

Not as bad, but more wind on the way.

Storm Eunice Part 3.
OhYouBadBadKitten · 19/02/2022 11:27

It's good to read of updates. It's reported that 230,000 are still without power. I hope they get it back soon, but no doubt in some areas it will take time. I hope power companies are getting generators in and that lessons were learned with Arwen about vulnerable customers needing power, or at least hotels urgently.

We need underground power lines across the country!
Major rail disruption with some rail companies asking people not to travel.

There will be further disruption this weekend as trees weakened by the storm come down in high winds. I'd avoid woodland over the next couple of days.

Fordian · 19/02/2022 11:35

We have a big patch of old woodland across the road from us, but luckily far enough away that no falling tree would land on the road, or any house. DH and I walked around its perimeter last night (Hants, 5.30, after Eunice had passed), but you could see some quite big trees down. I remarked to DH that it would probably not be safe to walk through the woods any time soon!

Somebody on thread 2 remarked on the continuous low, thrumming roar they heard during the height of the storm I was certainly aware of it here, possibly the wind in the trees or the cumulative effect of so many huge trees having their roots stressed?
