This thread covers the expected severe weather on Friday - named Storm Eunice by the met office. At the moment there is great uncertainty, so the met office have put out a very wide yellow weather warning. It looks likely that some regions within the warning area will see gusts of 60-70mph inland, with a small chances of inland gusts above 80mph. The storm also carries the potential for some blizzards, but again there is currently considerable uncertainty.

A separate thread exists for Storm Dudley which is expected Wednesday/Thursday.

I'm at Bognor Regis on holiday at the moment and due to travel home to Hertfordshire on Friday. Would it be worth leaving on Thursday night instead? Would 10pm be too late to miss the storm? The other option is leaving late on Friday but I feel a bit worried to be right on the coast with 3-4m waves predicted. We are at Butlins. 😶

My fence died a death today. I follow a local weather enthusiast on Facebook who thinks Friday might be a 1 in 25 years storm

timetochangeusername · 17/02/2022 06:10

How does Eunice compare to the 87 storm?

Just looked it up , 87 was a whole different class ! Phew, I remember that so well, glad this one isn't as bad. Obviously more of an issue that it's during the day though.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 17/02/2022 07:23

our council have put out a Yellow Alert
so less concerned than I was when I read it was Amber Alert.

i still need to drive to work tomorrow, it was a bit breezy yesterday

MrsLargeEmbodied · 17/02/2022 07:25

although Met office link still says Amber for my area

MrsLargeEmbodied · 17/02/2022 07:31

our local woods have closed the car park for friday, the local national trust gardens have also shut the car park and are closed to visitors, worrying about their lovely trees.

Recycledblonde · 17/02/2022 07:31

Help!!! I’ve got to drive to work at 5am tomorrow morning. 43 miles along the M3 southbound. Hope my little fiesta copes.

lollipoprainbow · 17/02/2022 07:37

I wonder if the schools will close, we are in south coast, dd school has lots of trees in playground I'm worried, I guess they won't let the children out to play Hmm

BlackeyedSusan · 17/02/2022 07:42

61 mph gusts predicted here. Eek.

Summersdreaming · 17/02/2022 07:45

I'm right on the line where the amber wind warning meets the yellow snow warning. Joy!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 17/02/2022 07:48

Morning all, I'm going to grab some breakfast and wait for the next round of models to roll out. Be with you all shortly.

We’re due to fly back into London in a few hours and can’t find any news of flights being cancelled - is it likely to be ok?

All calm and peaceful here in Essex at the moment
BlackeyedSusan · 17/02/2022 08:06

Oh bloody hell.

TyrannysaurusXXrightshoarder · 17/02/2022 08:07

Have no choice but to drive DD to work tomorrow (or else a whole load of animals won’t get fed) so hoping for a downgrade in this area. As PP it’s already gone down from 80mph ish to 60mph ish here.

purplesequins · 17/02/2022 08:11

not uk but geographically close to SE.
we had had a monster yesterday afternoon/last night.
the next one is expected tomorrow during the day.
there are warnings here but not too much concern (yet) as there seems to be less flood risk.

rattlemehearties · 17/02/2022 08:17

Thanks for this thread. Typical half term plans, we were going to drive across England on Friday afternoon to family for the weekend. might postpone to Saturday morning.

BestIsWest · 17/02/2022 08:21

We’re in South West Wales and DD is meant to be coming back from Bristol by train tomorrow evening. Beginning to wonder if she should stay put.

toomuchlaundry · 17/02/2022 08:25

We have gone from 80mph down to 70mph winds tomorrow morning on BBC website. Dreading it. Already lost part of our fence

there might be train cancellations. I would look for alternatives.
afengshui · 17/02/2022 08:28

Will it be safe for children to go to school?

BestIsWest · 17/02/2022 08:35

Yes purplesequins my thoughts too. Just seen the news about the Cardiff train and the trampoline.
If so, will be the third week running she’s been meant to come home and had to cancel for various reasons.
