This thread covers the expected severe weather on Friday - named Storm Eunice by the met office. At the moment there is great uncertainty, so the met office have put out a very wide yellow weather warning. It looks likely that some regions within the warning area will see gusts of 60-70mph inland, with a small chances of inland gusts above 80mph. The storm also carries the potential for some blizzards, but again there is currently considerable uncertainty.

A separate thread exists for Storm Dudley which is expected Wednesday/Thursday.

We are due to be at Legoland on Friday - we drive down tomorrow and when I spoke to them earlier they had no plans to close / didn't think it would impact too much - they also won't give refunds Angry

youhadmeatjello · 16/02/2022 21:15

I’m east anglia. Been pretty windy here today and met office showing 70mph winds midday Friday. Our local paper has reported a “danger to life” weather warning for the weekend as well.

I’ve realised we don’t have any candles or anything in so will be taking a trip to the shops tomorrow just incase. DH is headed to Lewes for the weekend and staying right on the coast which should be interesting!

MondeoFan · 16/02/2022 21:32

@PinkSpring I'm surprised at that. Won't they even let you move the date to an alternative date?
How can the rides etc. Be operating in intense wind?

dementedma · 16/02/2022 21:34

Central Fife here and things not bad at all. Bit blustery and wet but nothing too bad

PinkSpring · 16/02/2022 21:37

Nope, they said they weren't intending on closing on Friday so if we choose not to go, then we don't get a refund.

If it is as bad as they say, either they will have to close or a large amount of rides will be closed anyway.

Will just have to make the most of it tomorrow just in case!

Thanks for the thread oybbk

Ugh. Have friends flying in to Stansted Friday. Already rescheduled twice due to covid. Really hope their flight can land, fingers crossed…

CrystalTits · 16/02/2022 21:42

DDs are booked on a flight to Sweden from Heathrow at 7am Friday. Can’t see us getting from the south coast to the airport at 4am let alone being able to take off. Rescheduled for 2 yrs, they will be devastated - would the airline put them on the next available flight out when safe?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 16/02/2022 21:46

A lot of people round where I live seem utterly oblivious as to what is potentially approaching. It's quite extraordinary. No one seems to be making contingency plans. Confused

Bit of a downgrade on BBC weather for where I am too; was showing 81 mph earlier for Friday(!) it’s now come down to 64mph. I love wild weather but feeling a bit apprehensive about this one! Have cancelled DS nursery for Friday and warned the dog he shall not be getting a walk that day 😅

Imsittinginthekitchensink · 16/02/2022 21:47

Following and trying not to worry! I hate high wind, bad memories of the 87 storm. Plus next door had scaffolding put up last weekend, keeping everything crossed it stays up...

littleredhairedgirl · 16/02/2022 21:50

I'm due to drive from Southampton to Warrington on Friday, if I leave early-ish (9-10 am) am I likely to be ahead of the worst? I'm sort of ok with 45-50 mph but not any stronger especially on the motorways!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 16/02/2022 22:00

You'd be driving in much stronger gusts than that littleredhairedgirl.

I wouldn't pay much attention to the apps, they are based on single model output. I hope it does weaken though.

Surprisingly noisy wind this evening where I am given this is just the far outskirts of Dudley.

@OhYouBadBadKitten - what are the parameters for the met office raising it to a red warning? How likely do you think that is?

Yourway · 16/02/2022 22:19

@OhYouBadBadKitten will the storms be mostly over by Sunday please? Have a long and pretty essential drive from N Wales to q west Scotland that I’m getting a bit nervous about.

Jellykat · 16/02/2022 22:19

Well im anxious now for Friday!
I'm on the coast of West Wales and just read 90 - 100 mph winds expected!.. so many dodgy trees around here, i was nearly crushed by one coming down a few years ago on the road, just as another one came down in the adjoining field.. it was like Armageddon!
Hearing a tree thud to the ground is freaky.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 16/02/2022 22:21

It's a good question without any really good answer. Because they base it on impact rather than wind speed I've not found any really good definition. This is what they say.

GFS seems to be a more moderate solution. That I think explains the BBC weather app being calmer. Other models are not letting go of the really fierce winds.

I think Sunday will be a bit bumpy still with the potential for another deep low passing to the north of Scotland I'm afraid.

It sounds intermittently dramatic outside - London - where arious apps/sites say it's wind speed 25mph but gusting to 50

Bornin1989 · 16/02/2022 22:32

Following, I live on a boat on the river Avon just outside of Bristol, my other half spent the day tightening ropes and strapping things down on the roof. We're rocking away already and it's not Friday yet. Eek!

crackofdoom · 16/02/2022 22:41

Well, as an inhabitant of Cornwall, looks like Saturday's going to be a good (SAFE) wave watching day! Grin

And living on an exposed hilltop anyway, anything that was going to blow over/off/away has already done so. We gave up on the trampoline years ago....

OhYouBadBadKitten · 16/02/2022 23:04

well, goodnight. Tomorrow might be a shortened night, so try and sleep well.

Same. Was that Storm Callum ? One of my trees snapped in half in that. I am glad we have just had some dodgy trees pollarded or they would be coming down I think.
PickAChew · 16/02/2022 23:22

@JacketOnTheHook

So these are the forecasts for my area. Looks like I need to batten down the hatches? Qny other advice please?
Make sure you can fix lunch or whatever meal is likely to be disrupted, suddenly, without opening your fridge.

We've got through Arwen, malik and today without losing power while so many people close to us (geographically) haven't been so lucky. DH has finally stopped rolling his eyes when I take eggs and veg out of the fridge.

64mph can still do a lot of damage.
