This thread covers the expected severe weather on Friday - named Storm Eunice by the met office. At the moment there is great uncertainty, so the met office have put out a very wide yellow weather warning. It looks likely that some regions within the warning area will see gusts of 60-70mph inland, with a small chances of inland gusts above 80mph. The storm also carries the potential for some blizzards, but again there is currently considerable uncertainty.

A separate thread exists for Storm Dudley which is expected Wednesday/Thursday.

My god this headache!

Maria1982 · 17/02/2022 22:19

Bother, quote/reply fail

@HesterShaw1 I read that ICON map as showing gust speed.

Motorina · 17/02/2022 22:20

Thanks everyone for filling me in on ICON.

It looks similar to what the BBC is reporting for my area, at least. 80mph at lunchtime.

HesterShaw1 · 17/02/2022 22:20

@Maria1982

I read that as being gusts!!! (It says across the top of the map)
Oh so it does! Thanks 👍

@DirtyDancing

I was gift was gifted 5 personal trainer sessions for Xmas and tomorrow was meant to be the last one.. in a park in south london at 10am.. they PT won't cancel & being funny about it.

I think it's a bit dangerous at the possible peak of the storm!??

What an arse. Way to get repeat business and recommendations.

Hope your PT sees sense. Don't cancel your end.

How did you download that? I've taken a photo of my laptop with my phone but they're not very good.

Will planes be grounded all day?

Athenajm80 · 17/02/2022 22:23

Signing in from Cardiff. All very calm and quiet, too calm compared to the last few days. I had to go to Merthyr today and it was lush and sunny. Thankfully I'm WFH tomorrow although kind of hoping the internet goes down tomorrow so I get the day off.

Stay safe everyone (jeez, I hate that phrase after Covid!) and see you all on the flip side

ifonly4 · 17/02/2022 22:24

My two cats have just shot out the door together for their evening fun. Searched their old litter trays out earlier, as I don't think they'll be so enthusiastic in the morning.

Will planes be grounded all day?
In general, across the whole of the Uk, no, but there’s going to be lots of disruption.

Gusts Hester.

So Eunice seems to be deepening faster than modeled I think. That might mean higher end wind speeds, but its more complex than that.

Sorry, @Marvel23, my pictures are a few posts back.

Not far from Swansea here, been raining in and off for an hour. Little bit of a breeze just beginning. Partner has the mother of all headaches tonight

@afengshui

I suspect Luton (my nearest airport) might have to close for a bit around lunchtime.
KateTheEighth · 17/02/2022 22:33

Just want to say a huge big thank you to @OhYouBadBadKitten for all your hard work and information (and patience!)

I've followed so many of your threads over the years and you are brilliant 🤩

MissAngorian · 17/02/2022 22:35

Signing in from a bit further up the Welsh coastline. Extremely quiet here, the seafront has been closed off and all schools closed tomorrow. I've moved the plant pots from the front to the back of the house (slightly more sheltered), charged all devices, filled up water bottles and got in a decent enough stock of ready to eat foods.

We're entirely electric at home so am hoping to not have any power cuts - we're not in a red zone, so🤞

Stokey · 17/02/2022 22:35

Great information as always @OhYouBadBadKitten. We're meant to be driving from London to Bath tomorrow afternoon.... Guess that is unlikely now but will keep an eye on it.

@Franklin12

Is it just me but I am heartily sick of the media literally whipping up a storm of panic. Some people will be so scared. I have just turned off the ITV. News because they are now scaremongering.

I know there is a storm coming, I know flooding will occur. So does everyone else. It has shades of the petrol crisis.

I think that's the problem. The media LOVE to report on a crisis - their favourite headlines every year are "Britain to be battered under 10 feet of snow" followed by "Britain to experience hottest summer on record". Then when it doesn't materialise, people eventually stop paying attention. So when we genuinely DO have seriously bad weather and storms, no one is prepared. My local paper today was warning of the storm and the first comment underneath was "It won't be that bad, it never is, it'll just be a bit windy"

Titsywoo · 17/02/2022 22:39

I've been nosing on the Netweather forums - is it right that the latest GFS is downgrading the storm a bit?

Titsywoo · 17/02/2022 22:39

Sorry that question was to @OhYouBadBadKitten

OhYouBadBadKitten · 17/02/2022 22:41

Titsy - yes, It seems to be struggling with the shape of the core. I don't think it is handling it at all well.

So you think it might be wrong?
