This thread covers the expected severe weather on Friday - named Storm Eunice by the met office. At the moment there is great uncertainty, so the met office have put out a very wide yellow weather warning. It looks likely that some regions within the warning area will see gusts of 60-70mph inland, with a small chances of inland gusts above 80mph. The storm also carries the potential for some blizzards, but again there is currently considerable uncertainty.

A separate thread exists for Storm Dudley which is expected Wednesday/Thursday.

Yes Titsy, I would be very surprised if it is correct. If it is correct, I would be very glad and I would not mind being wrong.

Me too. Again, thanks to our 'amateur' experts, like OYBBK.

I think most of us are intelligent enough to understand that you are doing the best you can with the unpredictability. Analysing the models, understanding which over-, and under-predict. That's UK weather. Massive weather systems, howling off a huge ocean, colliding with a huge landmass outlier. Us.

Francescaisstressed · 17/02/2022 22:50

God. Watching from bang on in the red zome, expecting very very high winds and flooding and dat hear terrified. I suffer with anxiety anyway.
We've brought important stuff upstairs, my pets are shut in the living room with crates ready and have an amergency bag packed - no idea where we would go and how to get there though! We don't have a car at the moment and no family live near.

Thank you. Fingers crossed then!

What's everyone thinking about dogs?! Obvs no walks . I usually feed at 7, wee, wee at 9 and 1pm. Then ok til 5. It's going to be a bit hair raising going in the garden he's scared of wind so I'll be out there with him ! Hoping first 2 not too bad then maybe he can hold it esp if I move his water for a bit
I've set my alarm for 5am to get our 4 up and out for their morning wees. If it's very noisy outside they are likely to wake up anyway! I'm hoping 5am will be ok Confused. I'll take them out 1 at a time on leads. 2 will NOT go out in the rain at the best of times so will need to be carried. 1 is an ex street dog and gets very distressed in stormy weather but weirdly needs to go and see it, have a bark and a bit of a dig. Our boy dog is an idiot so I've no idea how he will react! We'll put puppy pads in the outside porch if necessary.

@Louisianagumbo

How did you download that? I've taken a photo of my laptop with my phone but they're not very good.
I think it depends on what which part of Lancashire you are, most of the county is covered by the amber warning, but some of it is yellow.

OYBBK- you're welcome.

I see you contextualising your data. If your the amateur you claim to be 😂- well, you're bloody good!

How much we crave certainty. I, over the past 500 responses have seen so many asking people like yourself, for guarantee! In what world is that possible? Should we all not now be for preparing for the worst, but hoping for the best?

JustSinginIntheRain · 17/02/2022 22:58

I'm right in the red zone. Just bought all the garden stuff indoors.

It's eerily quiet at the moment.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 17/02/2022 22:58

I need to get some sleep so I'm coherent tomorrow. I've started a new thread in case you all keep talking while I'm asleep. Please can you migrate to it once this one is full. www.mumsnet.com/Talk/weather/4484499-Storm-Eunice-Part-2

In the mean time, its late now. What will be, will be. Close your windows, tidy your gardens and charge your devices. I'll see you in the morning. At the risk of being overly soppy - stay safe all. This time tomorrow, we will be through it.

Sleep tight, OYBBK. Tomorrow will tell.

Athenajm80 · 17/02/2022 22:59

There are two cats arguing outside my house. I don't know whose they are, but I'm a bit worried about them. Do you think animals know to go somewhere safe, so if their house doesn't have a cat flap, they'd somehow find somewhere to hunker down and wait the storm out? I've never seen a cat being carried away by the wind which, although would be horrible in real life, imagining it does seem like something out of a cartoon. My cats are safely indoors, but the two outside just got me thinking.

Fordian · 17/02/2022 23:01

Don't overthink cats. They'll be fine. They'll lay low and any carnage will fly over then, should that occur.

HemanOrSheRa · 17/02/2022 23:01

Night night OYBBK. Sleep tight. Thank you for keeping us all so well informed Smile.

Fordian · 17/02/2022 23:03

It's 11pm. How is it outside your front door? Only post with a location.

Outside my front door, near Southampton, utterly calm.

Motorina · 17/02/2022 23:05

Cats are magic. And have nine lives. I wouldn't worry.

Totally calm in Suffolk, but we're not due to get it til morning.

Fordian · 17/02/2022 23:06

Cats are magik.

Maria1982 · 17/02/2022 23:07

Goodnight OYBBK

Francescaisstressed · 17/02/2022 23:07

Totally calm down Cardiff. Eerily so if I'm honest.

stayathomegardener · 17/02/2022 23:07

Very calm Cheshire

I bet that's why they're arguing.
sleaf · 17/02/2022 23:07

Eerily calm here in the SW. Reminiscent of the evening before the 1987 storm.

Utterly dreading my drive into work tomorrow - will likely WFH although bosses probably won't be too pleased.

Thewiseoneincognito · 17/02/2022 23:07

Cornwall here and it’s very still here…. Odd. Very odd.

HesterShaw1 · 17/02/2022 23:09

It's 40mph in the fat west already.

And xcweather have upgraded the wind strength again.

I'm quite nervous I have to say

PickAChew · 17/02/2022 23:09

@timetochangeusername

Would plant pots filled with earth fly?!! That's the only thing I've not moved. I've got a plastic green house which I've weighted down and removed my seedlings from
Depends if they have tall plants in and how big they are. Make sure you take seedling pots indoors and any you can't take in are well altered so they're heavier and soil is less likely to crumble. Lay down anything top heavy.
