This thread covers the expected severe weather on Friday - named Storm Eunice by the met office. At the moment there is great uncertainty, so the met office have put out a very wide yellow weather warning. It looks likely that some regions within the warning area will see gusts of 60-70mph inland, with a small chances of inland gusts above 80mph. The storm also carries the potential for some blizzards, but again there is currently considerable uncertainty.

A separate thread exists for Storm Dudley which is expected Wednesday/Thursday.

Very near then! Though I see the local BbC forecast hasn't updated for 2 hrs.. though the coastguard has tweeted . We have several large trees bit luckily none near the house ( nor neighbours) . Good luck for the horses .. I imagine ( hope) the ones next door to us are ticked up in their stables

cheninblanc · 17/02/2022 22:07

Donatella the bridge has already decided to shut at 5am in dartford. I live south of it and luckily go no where near it now! It will likely be a mess up there tomorrow
@OhYouBadBadKitten, what is ICON, please?
There are a number of computer models that forecasters use. ICON is a high resolution model run by the German met office.

It's like the German version of the Met Office - it's their model.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 17/02/2022 22:08

Its so quiet at the moment because we have a ridge of high pressure over us.

Is that causing the headaches? I don't get them much 🤕
MumbleCrumbs · 17/02/2022 22:10

Anyone else have a horrendous headache?

timetochangeusername · 17/02/2022 22:10

Would plant pots filled with earth fly?!! That's the only thing I've not moved. I've got a plastic green house which I've weighted down and removed my seedlings from

WhathaveIdoneagain · 17/02/2022 22:10

@Aquarius1234

How windy does it need to be, for lots of tiles to come off roofs?
Storm Arwen was red weather warning for wind at the end of November, it damaged our roof.
whojamaflip · 17/02/2022 22:11

There's not a breath of air here in the North Cotswolds but has just started to rain. It's almost difficult to believe what's coming in.....

Franklin12 · 17/02/2022 22:12

Is it just me but I am heartily sick of the media literally whipping up a storm of panic. Some people will be so scared. I have just turned off the ITV. News because they are now scaremongering.

I know there is a storm coming, I know flooding will occur. So does everyone else. It has shades of the petrol crisis.

BBCONEANDTWO · 17/02/2022 22:12

@notimagain thanks for that.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 17/02/2022 22:12

ICON does have a reputation of overdoing things wind wise a bit and it has seemed to err to the more severe end of model output, but heres a snapshot at midday.

Another Cornish Mumsnetter here, only we're currently in Bath and due to drive home tomorrow.
But thankfully the wonderful Airbnb owners have offered us another night free of charge! Their guests who were due to arrive tomorrow have cancelled. So we've been out and bought supplies for a day stuck in instead of driving home.
Ds (24) is home alone (with the cat) so I've everything crossed all goes okay at home. He's wfh tomorrow so doesn't have to go out.
We're due to pick dd up from uni on our way home. She's coming home for the weekend.
And to top it all it's my 50th birthday tomorrow. This is not how I expected to spend the day.
Staying an extra night in this lovely apartment would be good but part of me wants to get home to see my family as planned.

isitbedtimeplease · 17/02/2022 22:13

@MumbleCrumbs

I had my brother assemble the bloody think so have no idea how to take the net down. I'll have to get up early before the worst hits and try to tie it to something maybe?
It was actually really easy, the top Of the net is on a hoop which slots onto the poles if yours is like mine. So easy to lift off the eve of the poles still attached to hoop. Took me five mins
CornishTiger · 17/02/2022 22:15

@OhYouBadBadKitten ouch!

@Snozzlemaid good luck getting home but enjoy the extra night.

MumbleCrumbs · 17/02/2022 22:15

Thanks isitbedtime! Hopefully it will be that easy! It isn't supposed to get too bad here until 12 so I'll have some time in the early morning to try to sort something.

Actually, people need to know how dangerous this storm could be. Could - not definitely, it is still developing and we don't know for certain. But by the time we know for certain it will be too late if it is as most models show. If the message isn't got out there and it is as forecast then quite simply - people will die. If this isn't good for your mental health then yes, you are wise to turn everything off. But stay inside.

Ehm 😳. Are those gusts or steady wind speed?
Maria1982 · 17/02/2022 22:18

I read that as being gusts!!! (It says across the top of the map)
