Storm Eunice

This thread covers the expected severe weather on Friday - named Storm Eunice by the met office. At the moment there is great uncertainty, so the met office have put out a very wide yellow weather warning. It looks likely that some regions within the warning area will see gusts of 60-70mph inland, with a small chances of inland gusts above 80mph. The storm also carries the potential for some blizzards, but again there is currently considerable uncertainty.

A separate thread exists for Storm Dudley which is expected Wednesday/Thursday.

@Eesha

I'm in London and had plans to head across town, (taxi) about 4pm. I'm just wondering whether the worst of the storm would be in the morning?
It’s meant to hit London mid morning through to the afternoon.
Jellykat · 17/02/2022 21:48

Also waving at my Welsh West coast compatriots!..

Richards bros have suspended all buses until midday tomorrow, totally unheard of! but thats me not getting to work..

KenAdams · 17/02/2022 21:49

Bloody hell @alloalloallo where do you live? 115 mph winds Shock

Laska2Meryls · 17/02/2022 21:49

@alloalloallo

This is our forecast for the tomorrow morning, but we’re still on an amber weather warning

I live by the coast but at the top of a hill so shouldn’t have to worry about flooding.

3 schools have announced closures for tomorrow - DD is at college and has mocks tomorrow so not sure whether they’re closed or not

I have to go and do my horses tomorrow morning - they’ll most likely stay in as they’re complete knobs in the wind and I don’t want to die, but they’ll need skipping out, hay, etc.

Ah.. recognise that forecast I must live near you... We are right on the west where its going to hit first .... everything tied down ..hold onto yer 'caulkhats'..
Feministwoman · 17/02/2022 21:50

@frowner

Warwickshire here, our primary school has forest school in the morning which the teacher said is going ahead, hmm…
Blimey, as a Forest School Leader I'd have cancelled due to the wind speed. Wind and trees, not a good mix.
Eesha · 17/02/2022 21:50

@TokyoDreaming thank you, I was debating cancelling or going later on. Its all so unpredictable!

hairycabbage · 17/02/2022 21:51

We're due to experience the storm from 7am and have been told we are high risk of flooding too. Advice was to leave tonight or go to a rest area early tomorrow but for various reasons we can't do that so we will be watching closely and hoping for the best.
Fairly calm and quiet here so far...

lochmaree · 17/02/2022 21:54

'Windy' is quite a good app to have

Aquarius1234 · 17/02/2022 21:54

How windy does it need to be, for lots of tiles to come off roofs?

Lockheart · 17/02/2022 21:54

@MumbleCrumbs

Can someone advise me? We got a monstrous behemoth of a trampoline during covid summer to keep the kids happy. It's really heavy but we're also the only ones on our road with one and I really really don't want to cause anyone's property any damage. DH has buggered his arm and I'm disabled so I'm not sure what I should be doing to secure it (even if I could manage it) we've managed to put a heavy kids slide on it to weigh it down on one side. We're in the Midlands so hopefully it won't be as bad here. No school closures have been announced.
Is there no way you can take the netting and the mat off? Those will be what provides the worst of the sail effect. I don't think the heavy kids slide will do much should the wind get under the mat.
MinglingFlamingo · 17/02/2022 21:56

@Aquarius1234

Depends on the roof. Age, how well attached the tiles are, the pitching

I've taken the net down so it's less of a sail and flipped the whole thing upside down?

What's everyone thinking about dogs?! Obvs no walks .
I usually feed at 7, wee, wee at 9 and 1pm. Then ok til 5.
It's going to be a bit hair raising going in the garden he's scared of wind so I'll be out there with him !
Hoping first 2 not too bad then maybe he can hold it esp if I move his water for a bit

OhYouBadBadKitten · 17/02/2022 21:57

ICON is updating. I hope that the output is incorrect, it is producing a very severe scenario. GFS on the other hand is showing something rather weaker. I don't know which is handling things better. We have to hope for GFS, but I'm not convinced.

Just noticed this thread - anyone know how bad it's going to be in West of Scotland. Supposed to be flying to Spain tomorrow I'm guessing the flights will be cancelled.

Simonjt · 17/02/2022 21:58

We’re in our little holiday home, an old stable surrounded by trees. We have a dead tree fairly close to the property, it has started to rot so I have spent the last three days cutting it down. Hopefully as the trees are leaf free none of the living ones come down.

Luckily we are fairly close to Grandmas house, so we are staying there tonight as no trees etc near her home.

Motorina · 17/02/2022 21:59

@OhYouBadBadKitten, what is ICON, please?

Peak winds for London are forecast to be late AM. The wind is then meant to drop a bit after midday but if the forecast holds up it will still be v windy right through into the evening. HTH
Waveifyouknowme · 17/02/2022 22:00

Dorset, all so calm at the moment. Feel a bit like waiting for Christmas, I'm not being flippant, our house is very exposed and large trees, it's just a weird feeling

Louisianagumbo · 17/02/2022 22:00
@Louisianagumbo

NW England remains an Amber warning for 05:00 - 21:00 tomorrow - both BBC and Met Office apps.
Maybe where you are but in Lancashire where I am, at 10.49 this morning there was an amber warning for 05.00 - 21.00.
But at 11.10 it was downgraded to yellow for 7.00 - 18.00.

This is on the BBC weather app. But it's issued for Lancashire by the Met Office. Unfortunately it's on my phone and I don't know how today a screen shot.

alloalloallo · 17/02/2022 22:02

Yep, on the west too.

Good luck!

We're on the Wilts/Hants/Dorset border and it's so quiet at the mo.

The winds at places like Glasgow airport aren’t meant to be as bad as down south, not much above 35mph at worse but OTOH there are some fairly heavy snow showers forecast..

Guess yet again it’s fingers crossed.

MumbleCrumbs · 17/02/2022 22:06

I had my brother assemble the bloody think so have no idea how to take the net down. I'll have to get up early before the worst hits and try to tie it to something maybe?

Justkeeppedaling · 17/02/2022 22:06

North Wilts, all calm. We're just on the border between red and amber warnings but bbc says 85mph around 5am.
