This thread covers the expected severe weather on Friday - named Storm Eunice by the met office. At the moment there is great uncertainty, so the met office have put out a very wide yellow weather warning. It looks likely that some regions within the warning area will see gusts of 60-70mph inland, with a small chances of inland gusts above 80mph. The storm also carries the potential for some blizzards, but again there is currently considerable uncertainty.

A separate thread exists for Storm Dudley which is expected Wednesday/Thursday.

The wind has quite suddenly started. Lands End weather has gone from gusting 13mph an hour ago to a gust now of 35mph. It's still southerly which is a bastard direction for us here. Still a little breeze of course but it's building

Belle2210 · 17/02/2022 20:09

That's all our local rural schools closing in North Aberdeenshire with the heavy snow forecast for tomorrow being brought in by Eunice.

I am prob about 20 miles from the where the red zone was for Arwen and that was still wayy too close.

thunderonlyhappenswhenits · 17/02/2022 20:11

@alloalloallo

This is our forecast for the tomorrow morning, but we’re still on an amber weather warning

I live by the coast but at the top of a hill so shouldn’t have to worry about flooding.

3 schools have announced closures for tomorrow - DD is at college and has mocks tomorrow so not sure whether they’re closed or not

I have to go and do my horses tomorrow morning - they’ll most likely stay in as they’re complete knobs in the wind and I don’t want to die, but they’ll need skipping out, hay, etc.

Bloody hell that's nearly hurricane wind !!

Riding has seen sense and cancelled all lessons tomorrow!

HesterShaw1 · 17/02/2022 20:14

That's fascinating! Look at the eye

Wagsandclaws · 17/02/2022 20:14

Finally got an email to say my DC's school closed tomorrow.

I wasn't sending them in anyway as we appear to be 12 miles from the red zone ( that's about how far Bristol airport is from us ) - we are very high up in the mendips so I'm expecting some really pokey gusts!

Hope everyone is all set with their candles Ect. I've set up my weather station Outside, it doesn't register wind sadly but it'll be interesting to watch the pressure drop ect.

Take care everyone!

UghFletcher · 17/02/2022 20:15

All schools in Southampton area advised to close tomorrow - we're in Amber but seems that they are taking a lot of precautions (bins cancelled, high bridges closed, country parks closed)

BlackboardMonitorVimes · 17/02/2022 20:15

Oh wow oybbk, that's amazing to watch!

MrsMigginsCat · 17/02/2022 20:15

KWT are absolutely revelling in aren't they?

I'm having a nice hot bath now as I've realised that the boiler needs electricity so showers and baths might be out tomorrow.

Stay safe Cornish posse and anyone else in the path of the storm 🌪🌊

alloalloallo · 17/02/2022 20:19

That globe is cool

Our local weather person posted this earlier. I don’t know why, but I never realised how patchy the wind could be. I kind of expected a clear path if you see what I mean

battendown · 17/02/2022 20:20

@MrsMigginsCat I've just done the same!

Swimbikerunmummy · 17/02/2022 20:20

I’m in Guernsey, Channel Islands. Lots of travel disruptions for next few days, last boat is leaving this evening and flight disruption expected tomorrow.

crackofdoom · 17/02/2022 20:20

Oh no, if we all lose power then we might not be able to give each other regular updates tomorrow...😱

They're not the best presenters are they, bless them!
Louisianagumbo · 17/02/2022 20:24

I'm in Lancashire and we've been downgraded from amber to yellow. Maybe nationally it's not going to be as bad as forecast?

I'm finding the live stream really interesting. Definitely going to be recommending it to friends and family
OrangeSamphire · 17/02/2022 20:27

Good idea @MrsMigginsCat.

We are all electric here but have a water tank so should be ok for a shower. Bathed the kids though so they don’t use all the hot water tomorrow if we have got a power cut!

Will be glad for our LPG hob - it’s seen us through quite a few power cuts here. Why the council thinks overhead power lines are a good idea in a coastal village is beyond me.

@,Louisanagumbo where have you seen information about the downgrade?
Lancashire County Council still have it down as Amber.

LesLavandes · 17/02/2022 20:29

So worried. In Brighton sea front on my own. All so calm. I have got my essentials by front door in case I need to get out in a hurry.

Going to try to get a few hours sleep. Keep safe everyone

ifonly4 · 17/02/2022 20:31

Yes, I brought my morning shower forward by 12 hoursGrin

FuzzyPuffling · 17/02/2022 20:34

I'm listening to KWT Dave too.
It's a Cat 1 hurricane by another name!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 17/02/2022 20:36

This is a genuine concern I've had!

I'll try and keep people updated as long as I can and cross my fingers that I don't lose power.

Can I join the Cornish crew for some handholding. Last time I looked we were bang in the middle of the red zone.

School closed tomorrow and DH just home from work at Treliske and said all routine appointments in his department for tomorrow cancelled but he still has to go in. Have told him not to go on Hamburger Hill as winds there are always bad. He's v nonchalant but I am getting a bit worried. Thought I was being organised but got last box of candles from Mole Valley earlier!

Feel like I am waiting for armageddon now ...

OhYouBadBadKitten · 17/02/2022 20:39

While we will be having hurricane strength gusts, it isn't a hurricane strength storm. The beaufort scale refers to mean wind speed.
