This thread covers the expected severe weather on Friday - named Storm Eunice by the met office. At the moment there is great uncertainty, so the met office have put out a very wide yellow weather warning. It looks likely that some regions within the warning area will see gusts of 60-70mph inland, with a small chances of inland gusts above 80mph. The storm also carries the potential for some blizzards, but again there is currently considerable uncertainty.

A separate thread exists for Storm Dudley which is expected Wednesday/Thursday.

CornishTiger - it's Gloucestershire

OrangeSamphire · 17/02/2022 19:54

Joining the ranks of the Cornish! We are just in amber but beachfront and usually get a battering. Tied everything down. Charging everything.

I love a good storm unless it gets dangerous. Tuning in to Kernow Weather Team live update in a minute.

@FuzzyPuffling

I just got an email from Cornwall Council...bins cancelled, libraries shut, the tip is shut.
Oh yes I have it too. Arse. I forgot last time so I'm going to have six weeks of recycling in the kitchen. And I'm also going to have to get it back out of those silly flimsy bags which fly around everywhere.

They're loving it! Most exciting thing to happen for years 😁

They really are @HesterShaw1 😂

How do I access the Kernow Weather Team???

I'm in Devon in the Amber area. Secondary school closed and primary school saying children will be kept safe but parents should risk assess their own journeys and make decisions accordingly. I'll be working from home anyway (assuming no power cut!) so as long as they keep themselves entertained it'll be better for me if they are both here.

I have no room left in my garage for my garden furniture, I've stacked my two sun loungers and pushed them against the house, I hope that is enough. It was extremely windy here the night before last and we weren't even in the storm zone for Dudley!

battendown · 17/02/2022 19:57

We've charged everything, located the camping stove (better to be prepared!) and storm proofed as much as possible. It's pretty coastal here though, so it's going to come right in off the sea 😬.

CornishTiger · 17/02/2022 19:57

@ifonly4 good luck. Got family up there filling sandbags at mo and doing evacuation knocks :-(

LadyFlumpalot · 17/02/2022 19:58

Cornish Mumsnetters.... take all the pictures! A small part of me is insanely jealous. My dream is to capture a photo like this:

@MinglingFlamingo, they're on FB

crackofdoom · 17/02/2022 19:59

We live at the highest point of the village, and are completely exposed in 3 directions. The next highest ground to the SW is in Venezuela 😬.
My bin spends a lot of its time roaming free round the close, but today I have wedged it in the most sheltered corner and put something heavy in it.Camping stoves and lights at the ready, children briefed, (extremely noisy) lie in planned for tomorrow...😬

sadpapercourtesan · 17/02/2022 19:59

I'm in Devon and my son's college is closed tomorrow. Fence between us and next door blew down in the last storm and hasn't been replaced, so at least we don't have to worry about that Grin

We've moved our hanging baskets and put the bins in the shed. That's it. Not really expecting power cuts or major damage, but if it happens we'll be OK.

DP suggested going to Sennen for photos (we're both amateur photographers, though I'm a great deal more amateur than he is). I looked at him like this 🤔
MinglingFlamingo · 17/02/2022 20:00

Thank you @HesterShaw1 & @CornishTiger

Will tune in dreckly

ifonly4 · 17/02/2022 20:00

CornishTiger yes, no joke if you live by a water course.

OrangeSamphire · 17/02/2022 20:03

They have a Facebook page @MinglingFlamingo

FuzzyPuffling · 17/02/2022 20:03

I'm right in the danger zone. Proper north North Coast.
Someone on holiday has been sent home from their caravan as it's deemed too unsafe to stay. I'm not surprised. I'm glad I'm not in a caravan.

FuzzyPuffling · 17/02/2022 20:04

@CornishTiger

Rotary line is closed. Would you take it out and lay it down?!
Mine's in the shed.
alloalloallo · 17/02/2022 20:07

This is our forecast for the tomorrow morning, but we’re still on an amber weather warning

I live by the coast but at the top of a hill so shouldn’t have to worry about flooding.

3 schools have announced closures for tomorrow - DD is at college and has mocks tomorrow so not sure whether they’re closed or not

I have to go and do my horses tomorrow morning - they’ll most likely stay in as they’re complete knobs in the wind and I don’t want to die, but they’ll need skipping out, hay, etc.

FuzzyPuffling · 17/02/2022 20:07

Kernow Weather Team (on Facebook) is brilliant. Really accurate forecasts and people leave messages saying what the weather is in their bit of the county, so it's easy to tell when something is heading your way. I use it all the time |(for my washing!)

TheCountessOfGrantham · 17/02/2022 20:07

I'm in the southwest and all of our local schools have closed for tomorrow

LadyFlumpalot · 17/02/2022 20:08

@HesterShaw1 - DH said to me that if we lose power we can't work, and the school is closed... so should we head down to Cornwall? He was only half joking. I had to remind him we have to cross Bodmin Moor on the A30 which seems to be constantly blowing a gale at the best of times! We'll have to live this one vicariously I think.

I have said to him though that this would be the perfect holiday house in a beast of a storm - it's right at the end of Sennen, almost under the watchtower. I suspect it gets covered by waves.
