This thread covers the expected severe weather on Friday - named Storm Eunice by the met office. At the moment there is great uncertainty, so the met office have put out a very wide yellow weather warning. It looks likely that some regions within the warning area will see gusts of 60-70mph inland, with a small chances of inland gusts above 80mph. The storm also carries the potential for some blizzards, but again there is currently considerable uncertainty.

A separate thread exists for Storm Dudley which is expected Wednesday/Thursday.

Yep, school now confirmed as closed tomorrow.

Re a couple of the North/South posts, I understand this to some extent, but it is sometimes lost that vast majority of the South West is rural and very different in terms of infrastructure to that further east of us. We're going to get it tomorrow and likely suffer sadly, just as other areas have previously in the North.

queenrollo · 17/02/2022 14:35

@HoldOnToYourHat that bit of Lincs is my area and locally lots of roads were blocked yesterday with downed trees. The A16 (main road) was blocked in two locations one very near Louth.
If I were you I would hang fire and assess the situation nearer the time. My DH is on stand-by to be on call with his volunteer response team and we're keeping everything crossed he won't be needed!

Good job as all trains are cancelled in Wales tomorrow.

spiderlight · 17/02/2022 14:38

Relieved that out school is closed!

LadyFlumpalot · 17/02/2022 14:39

@Lovemusic33 - I'm on the South Somerset/Dorset border and we've just had an email from the school to say they are monitoring the situation but at the moment school remains open. I'm going to decide for myself in the morning if I think it's safe to send them in.

Changes17 · 17/02/2022 14:43

RainbowZebraWarrior I will, I just am hoping for a decision from the school so he doesn't have to have unauthorised absence.

SnowyWinterFox · 17/02/2022 14:44

I usually lurk on weather threads but just wanted to delurk and say thanks to OYBBK and everyone for the discussion and information sharing.

rooinspace · 17/02/2022 14:45

What will this mean for flights? We’ve got a morning flight from London

Bornin1989 · 17/02/2022 14:46

Hoping my DP's work is cancelled tonight, a night shift driving a lorry full of pallets from Avonmouth to Coventry and back... Usually he gets back to Avonmouth at about 8am, not sure if his lorry will be unladen then as well which would be even more dangerous ☹️

I just got the email for school closure for dd1, I had pulled dd2 out of school already (Somerset) due to risks of travelling.

NotMyselfWithoutCoffee · 17/02/2022 14:47

I'm in South Wales on the coast, schools, railway services and my workplace is shutting lol.
Can't wait to see how this blows over. Brew

NotMyselfWithoutCoffee · 17/02/2022 14:49

@rooinspace

I imagine they will be cancelled. At the moment the storm is graded as a category 1 to 2 hurricane force winds, would be very risky to fly.

Inastatus · 17/02/2022 14:49

I’m Hampshire/Dorset border and just had an email from school to say they will make a decision by later today. I really hope they close but might not send my two in even if they don’t. I’m not normally this cautious but I am a bit concerned about what tomorrow will bring!

givemushypeasachance · 17/02/2022 14:52

@OohRahhMaki

Arghh I am due to fly Glasgow to Bristol 8.45am tomorrow.

There is no information about the flight being cancelled but really have no idea what to think... (Sorry if I have missed it) but I can't see any info on flying during Eunice.

Bristol airport has tweeted about the red warning but just with 'Please take precaution when travelling to and from the airport. For the latest flight information please refer to your airlines website.' So it's not looking like they're planning to fully close or anything, but you'd imagine there would be some cancellations.
Nousernameforme · 17/02/2022 14:52

North Somerset have just announced schools are closed tomorrow. At least I won't have to do the should I shouldnt I guessing game.

Ask on the forum on here - Flight Radar 24 storm watchers - they seem to know lots about what is going on.
FuzzyPuffling · 17/02/2022 14:53

Cornwall Live (local news, usually a bit meh!) has a report of the "10 areas to be worst hit by Eunice". Yep....where I live is on the list.

HELP!

worriedatthemoment · 17/02/2022 14:53

Im in somerset and looks like our local schools to me are all going to close
Going in the garden soon to try and secure things down , we don't have a garage or shed though so no options to put things away
Wheelie bins just emptied so imagine they will be all over the place around here

FuzzyPuffling · 17/02/2022 14:54

We've had army planes and helicopters flying low overhead this after noon. Unusual activity. Think it's connected?

I think most will close. Just received a text from dd2’s school saying they are closing. I’m sure if Dorset and Somerset are closing schools Hampshire and Wiltshire will follow. Seems silly risking it when staff will be travelling in from all over as well as the risk of schools being without power.

Me too. And many thanks to @queenrollo for that local information - best of luck too for your DH and team!
CatBook · 17/02/2022 14:57

I've brought everything in from the garden, done all the washing up and washing, stocked up on candles, batteries and logs and read the riot act to the DC that if they moan that they are bored tomorrow without any electronic devices because they didn't bother to charge them this afternoon, it will be their own faults. Thanks for some of the suggestions up thread about hot water and cool boxes, I will sort those this evening. My other worry apart from the roof, is that we are in a blackspot with no mobile reception at all, and if the landline/internet goes then we are really going to be out of touch with what is going on.

NothingIsWrong · 17/02/2022 14:58

Our primary is on keyworker provision only due to staff sickess anyway tomorrow, my DD will be going in anyway cos of work, but wondering if they will even manage to provide that...

It’ll be one of 3 things
  1. Eunice
  2. Just general operations Or
  3. Russia

🙈

poorbuthappy · 17/02/2022 14:59

All 3 schools shut. All at home tomorrow. Thank goodness
