Storm Eunice

This thread covers the expected severe weather on Friday - named Storm Eunice by the met office. At the moment there is great uncertainty, so the met office have put out a very wide yellow weather warning. It looks likely that some regions within the warning area will see gusts of 60-70mph inland, with a small chances of inland gusts above 80mph. The storm also carries the potential for some blizzards, but again there is currently considerable uncertainty.

A separate thread exists for Storm Dudley which is expected Wednesday/Thursday.

Crikey, BBC forecasting 93mph winds for us for tomorrow at 9am. 67 from met office. Quite a difference. Won’t need to go out I hope but worried for 84 year old DM who is on her own. Have made sure she has torch and batteries and a flask.
Just checked the council website (Swansea)and all council non essential services will be shut but our refuse collection is going ahead. Are they mad?

thefamous5 · 17/02/2022 15:05

Here in north wales we have just had emails to say schools are all
Closed tomorrow

AnotherCrazyBirdLady · 17/02/2022 15:07

Does anyone know if buses are running in North Wales tomorrow, particularly in the Conwy valley? DS needs to get to work, they haven't mentioned him staying home as of yet.

emsiewill · 17/02/2022 15:09

Am in Newport (S Wales) and all schools closed tomorrow, mass vaccination centres closed, Civic Centre closed. DH & I are meant to be going to a murder mystery night in a hotel in Swansea tomorrow night, I fear that won't go ahead. Makes a change from things being cancelled because of Covid, I guess.

barberousbarbara · 17/02/2022 15:10

@thegreylady If you haven't already, you can register with your energy and water provider as priority users. They'll keep you fully updated during any outages and provide help if you need it.

LadyFlumpalot · 17/02/2022 15:11

Our primary school in South Somerset just sent out a school closure email. Looks like the rest of Somerset will be following suit if they haven't already:

"Somerset County Council (SCC) have just advised schools that based on the predicted incoming weather, staff and pupils should not be travelling and therefore the school will need to be closed."

Mummapenguin20 · 17/02/2022 15:12

Checking in

Changes17 · 17/02/2022 15:14

The amber zone school now closed, the one in the red zone yet to say..

Changes17 · 17/02/2022 15:17

Aha, Nousernameforme, thanks for that. Sounds like both schools are closed then.

Booklover3 · 17/02/2022 15:17

I think it’s supposed to peak at midday here in the midlands? Amber warning. Will I have enough time to secure everything in the morning? I’m at work till 10pm tonight

PickAChew · 17/02/2022 15:17

@worriedatthemoment

Im in somerset and looks like our local schools to me are all going to close Going in the garden soon to try and secure things down , we don't have a garage or shed though so no options to put things away Wheelie bins just emptied so imagine they will be all over the place around here
Lay the bins on their side, somewhere sheltered from the wind (eg a west facing wall if blowing from the east) with heavy stuff inside, if you can.
Trytobetoo · 17/02/2022 15:17

@thefamous5 I’m currently on holiday in N.Wales Confused it’s not as bad at it was yesterday, is it meant to pick up because we’ll head home if it is Blush

Vapeyvapevape · 17/02/2022 15:18

I might as well order more fence panels (again!)

Trytobetoo · 17/02/2022 15:18

Is anyone in Lancashire? Is it incredibly bad there?

Lulu1919 · 17/02/2022 15:19

Some schools closing .....inc mine where I work !!

Booklover3 · 17/02/2022 15:20

Argh… it’s from 9am so probably not. I’ll be out in the dark sorting it all

Inastatus · 17/02/2022 15:20

@Lovemusic33 - yes, just had the email to confirm school is closed. I’m so relieved. There are major building works going on at the school so the risk of flying debris is even greater.

thefamous5 · 17/02/2022 15:21

Yes it's supposed to be a lot worse tomorrow, especially as it coincides with high tide I think (we are right on sea front!). They believe we
May be upgraded to red warning. Stay safe!

BoreOfWhabylon · 17/02/2022 15:21

I'm bricking it here. On my own, limited mobility and all-electric house.
I'm north of Bristol near the M48 Severn Crossing.

@OhYouBadBadKitten @GloriaSmud what do your runes foretell for me please?

worriedatthemoment · 17/02/2022 15:21

@PickAChew luckily our bins are in an alleyway around the back surrounded by fences and a house so they may blow but shouldn't go anywhere. One i will lay down though as totally empty , the other has rubbish in , might just go round looking for all the rubbish in the house to make it heavier.
Lot of houses have then out front by main roads etc and they often have no places to move them so the roads no doubt will be scattered with them especially the recycling boxes, i had just bought a large wooden storage thing for our recycling so that should keeps ours safe hopefully

plominoagain · 17/02/2022 15:22

West Norfolk here - DH is supposed to be out delivering tomorrow across Suffolk and Norfolk but am hoping he gets back before it really gets here as he usually finishes by lunchtime . He’s currently out in our field doing a bit of emergency tree surgery as the fields are surrounded by willows in very wet ground due to the rain of the last weekend. It wouldn’t take much for some of the more lopsided ones to go, so he’s taking the overhanging branches off just in case .

Horses will be staying in with a shit ton of hay and classic fm I think .

PeskyRooks · 17/02/2022 15:23

Ah yes just got the email and dd2&3 school in Wiltshire now closed.

purdypuma · 17/02/2022 15:25

TBH they might well shut the woodhead pass if it gets as bad as they're anticipating.

GiantSpider · 17/02/2022 15:26

Place marking

nordica · 17/02/2022 15:28

Stupid question perhaps but is there anything specific I can do to make things around my house safer in preparation? Ordinary terraced house. My biggest worry is always my neighbour's huge tree right at the back of my garden in case it comes down as it would hit my house, nothing I can do about that of course. Sad
