@Twillow

It's the climate change denial here that is freaking me out.

The ten hottest years on record have all been this century,
with the hottest of these being the last five years.

And 21 out of the 22 hottest years in record have been in the last 21 years - the only year pushing into this otherwise 21st century set is 1998.

7 of the last 7 years are the hottest 7 on record. Of the hottest 10 years, 9 are in the last 10 years.

I agree it's concerning - I don't mind calling it climate change instead of global warming as that better represents the chaotic weather etc but the data makes it pretty clear it's happening.

@chooseyourusername

sorry but I think if that is all you have to worry about you are doing fine
That’s not really true is it when you consider that the reason for it is global warming?!
AutumnAlmanack · 02/01/2022 18:28

Just wait - it's going to be freezing later this week!!

LondonWolf · 02/01/2022 18:28

Nothing is going to be done. I think we all know this. Anything that would mean the elite having to give anything up or redistribute their wealth will simply not be considered viable. India and China et al show no interest at all in addressing the part they play. We can recycle our bottles, turn our lights out, avoid flying etc but it’s not going to make a jot of difference. So we can sit here being panicky and in some cases on this thread, superior, sneery and sanctimonious, because we believe we know more than others, but this is the path we are on. I think like all predicted doom and gloom scenarios it will fall somewhere in the middle and we as a species will adapt - like we always do. In the meantime the MN experts will keep using their Hmm faces and telling anyone who doesn’t agree with them how thick they are if it makes them feel better I guess.

My friend - a physics professor, so far cleverer than me - has told me that there is simply no point in worrying because the path is set but that we and the planet will adapt one way or another. Now you can all sneer away at that if you like but I prefer his pragmatism to the hectoring and berating from multiple posters on this thread.

Not a shock

Easter 2021 early April. It snowed a bit. Bloody freezing

gertie445 · 02/01/2022 18:31

This planet is dying. We have had record heat levels, extreme heat ( 49 degrees in Canada just one example) crazy fires (Australia/Canada US) flooding (everywhere)

The fucking idiots that can't recognise this, I have no words.

We were blessed with the best planet in the solar system, humans have been the biggest pest, we have ruined it. we don't deserve what we had.
we will be punished.

Stop buying shit you don't need, recycle, reuse and pray.

sweetbellyhigh · 02/01/2022 18:31

@ElftonWednesday

First of all, sustainability is not confined to environmental issues. It is a way of thinking and behaving. Maybe start by reading up on the pillars of sustainability, it will help you understand why the environment is in rapid decline

What blind bit of difference does it make if I read up on it? Other than make me depressed and worried. It's much too big an issue to have on my to do list, and it's really pointless worrying about it.

Well for starters you could make informed posts rather than hammering out ignorant nonsense, the usual reason that it's better to learn than talk lol!
Butteredtoast55 · 02/01/2022 18:32

It was 9 degrees when I was outside gardening today so not that warm but still unusually mild. There were live ladybirds crawling around, perennials are flowering and things are budding too which worries me.
Just been for a walk - definitely needed my coat and was pleased to get back in the warm house. It is going to get much colder later this week too, which is how it should be!

DottyHarmer · 02/01/2022 18:35

It doesn’t matter if you recycle or reuse your hemp tote bag.

The population is the problem. People are still having 10, 12, 14 children - it’s simply disastrous.

gluteustothemaximus · 02/01/2022 18:42

#dontlookup

wentworthinmate · 02/01/2022 18:45

Pointless getting anxious about it. There is nothing you or we can do. We will be long dead before the earth comes to an end, which it will, the human race and global warming is just hastening its demise.

wentworthinmate · 02/01/2022 18:48

@Cocoabutterformula

Fritilleries I'm with you. I've followed climatic change issues for over 40 years, the planet is beyond telling us we are in trouble, most people are just sticking their fingers in their ears and singing la la la
What should we be doing as normal citizens because doing a bit of recycling isn't going to change a thing. I do care and don't have my fingers in my ears but there is bugger all I can do about it. IMO it is already too late.
tillytoodles1 · 02/01/2022 18:51

When we've all gone, and everything goes to back to how it should be, nature will be happy.

wentworthinmate · 02/01/2022 18:51

@Whatabambam

It's the birds tweeting in the dark that concerns me as much as the unseasonably warm weather
Yes had a robin singing away at 3am two nights ago. I just hope the hedgehogs don't come out of hibernation then get caught out when it changes to winter proper.
MarvellousMonsters · 02/01/2022 19:06

@chooseyourusername

If you think this isn't worth worrying about you haven't been paying attention
SquirrelG · 02/01/2022 19:06

Some of you need to get over yourselves! While I totally believe in global warming, this is surely just unseasonable weather, which happens all around the world. It's hardly worth "freaking out" and worrying yourselves sick over!!! I'm not in the UK, but 40 or so years ago we once had snow in summer, every now and again we have warm temps in winter, it happens.

MMAS · 02/01/2022 19:10

I used to live in Spain - despite people thinking it is hot all year round it most definitely is not. When I came back to the UK end Dec 2010 was expecting to be freezing but very glad not to be. The weather is changing for all countries and our climate is getting milder whilst others are changing from hot to cold. Climate change may have another meaning, who knows, perhaps there is an axis we don't know about that the Universe adheres to.

What ridiculous histrionics, and utter tripe.Hmm Who the fuck has 10, 12, 14 children?! Hmm I can count on the fingers of one hand the amount of people I know who have had more than 3 children (in the past 25 years.) Families with 4 or more children are very rare in the 21st century. (In the western world.)
mrbreezeet1 · 02/01/2022 19:18

No, not so much, No.

2022beesknees · 02/01/2022 19:20

Love it.

People not in the western world have large families. Religious families often have many children in all areas of the globe.

Such rudeness from someone basing their response on their own limited sphere of experience.

RedPandaWanda · 02/01/2022 19:24

The little girl (about 2) in the supermarket queue in front of me today had on a flimsy, strappy summer dress and sandals, her mum had a spaghetti strap vest on!!

Lilymossflower · 02/01/2022 19:24

I have not noticed this personally, it's still raining and far too cold for my liking where I am in England.

CountryMouse22 · 02/01/2022 19:25

Getting colder midweek!
