@LondonWolf

What ridiculous histrionics, and utter tripe.hmm Who the fuck has 10, 12, 14 children?! hmm I can count on the fingers of one hand the amount of people I know who have had more than 3 children (in the past 25 years.) Families with 4 or more children are very rare in the 21st century. (In the western world.)

People not in the western world have large families. Religious families often have many children in all areas of the globe.

Such rudeness from someone basing their response on their own limited sphere of experience.

And such a weird lack of comprehension from someone who CBA to read/respond to posts properly. I said in the western world. So why the hell are you going on about NOT in the western world? Confused

Come off it, how many families do you know with more than 14 children (who've had them all in the last 25 years?) NONE that's how many. Because they barely exist in the real world.

ShabsLovesTiff · 02/01/2022 19:30

No not freaking out or complaining so chill out you prob all complain If it was also freezing too weather is unpredictable especially British weather that I will never understand and have more important things to worry about

JaneJeffer · 02/01/2022 19:30

Freaking out about climate change and being passive aggressive seem to go hand in hand.

LittleRoundRobin · 02/01/2022 19:32

The hysteria on this thread is ludicrous. We all KNOW climate change is a thing, we're not fucking stupid. But as a few posters have said, going loco and losing your shit, and mocking and hectoring anyone who isn't building an underground shelter for the inevitable Armageddon, is pathetic.

What's more, as has been said, we have had warmish Decembers before, and just because it was 16 C in early January, that doesn't mean the world is going to burst into flames by the end of 2022. And as has been said by some posters, I bet it's fucking SNOWING within the next week.

I have seen ladybirds and flies in January and February before. Indeed February 2018 was one of the warmest ever, with temps of 24 C, and then a month later we had the 'beast from the east,' which brought minus temperatures, and 6-8 ft snow drifts, followed by 'Storm Emma!'

I also have several photos of me 20-ish years ago - in early December - wearing a short sleeved t-shirt. Also, a pic of my brother with just a short sleeved top on in the mid 1990s, and that was mid December too. So, mild winter days are not rare.

When the temperature hits 32 C in January and stays there all month, and we are getting sunburnt, THEN start to worry, until then, get a grip.

LittleRoundRobin · 02/01/2022 19:33

@gertie445

This planet is dying. We have had record heat levels, extreme heat (49 degrees in Canada just one example) crazy fires (Australia/Canada US) flooding (everywhere)

The fucking idiots that can't recognise this, I have no words.

We were blessed with the best planet in the solar system, humans have been the biggest pest, we have ruined it. we don't deserve what we had.
We will be punished.

Stop buying shit you don't need, recycle, reuse and pray.

Good grief, could you BE more dramatic? Get a grip. As I said, we all know that global warming/climate change is a thing, no need for such dramatic hysteria. Most people are doing what they can.

Unfortunately, most people (around the world) don't care enough to do anything to change things. Most people won't give up their car, their mod cons, using plastic, using airplanes, travelling abroad etc etc. Most people commit crimes against the environment. Yes even YOU.

When we had the first covid lockdown in early 2020, the planet started to get much fresher air and cleaner waters, and everyone was like 'ooooooh, how wonderful, our planet is healing...' But as soon as lockdown lifted, most people went back to their old ways. As I said, most people don't care enough to change their ways.

Yes the wildfires and flooding and 'record heats' are a worry, and of course people are concerned, but there is fuck all we can do about it, because, as I said, too many people don't are enough to change their ways, and the big global powers-that-be (on other continents) will NOT change their ways for sure.

The world has been through worse, it will get through this. Calm down. Your comments are ridiculous and offensive.

007Stocko · 02/01/2022 19:34

That's what we get for destroying the world. No I am not an eco warrior but so many changes over recent years and especially compared to when I was a child that we clearly have to do better.

You wait though - Easter will be weeks of deep snow and ice!

EvilPea · 02/01/2022 19:41

@wentworthinmate
One of my hedgehogs is out of hibernation

Postdatedpandemic · 02/01/2022 19:43

@LittleRoundRobin we know the world will get through it, but will homo sapiens?

The warm weather has just reminded us that we are cruising towards a fate that is probably not very recoverable from. Global warming / climate change / global weirding is already creating refugees. The planetary population is unsustainable. The pandemic was a bit meh. How do we change things for the better? How do we make sure that today's babe in arms has a chance to die of old age? It won't be the UK becoming too hot or cold it will be other areas without sufficient food and water. Then people will fight.

Postdatedpandemic · 02/01/2022 19:45

@EvilPea I live in the south, our hedgehogs go in and out of hibernation and seem to survive. Hopefully yours will too.

LondonWolf · 02/01/2022 19:49

And such a weird lack of comprehension from someone who CBA to read/respond to posts properly. I said in the western world. So why the hell are you going on about NOT in the western world?

Oh I read your obnoxious post properly Grin. What I don’t understand is why you’re only talking about the western world? Does the rest of the world and it’s cultures not exist to you? How embarrassing to admit that any view you have is purely based on western cultures and their input into a GLOBAL issue.

Phyllis321 · 02/01/2022 19:49

It’s turned cold here (south) in the last hour. I’m in a jumper and blanket.

mummybean84 · 02/01/2022 19:54

My husband said he was genuinely disconcerted by this earlier today. It is really freaky.

mallees · 02/01/2022 19:55

I rather enjoy it

QueenBee70 · 02/01/2022 19:56

Nope not freaked out. It’s going to turn cold again in the next couple of days . We are currently in an interglacial period of which there have already been in the earths history . There is another ice age due in 1500 years according to scientists so make the most of it 😂

Although I don’t doubt we have an impact on the environment I suspect a lot is due to natural changes and it provides a great excuse for governments to levy extra taxes .

orinocosfavoritecake · 02/01/2022 20:00

Meanwhile, 97% of climate scientists think the climate crisis is down to human activity. But what the fuck do they know. climate.nasa.gov/scientific-consensus/

The most aggravating thing is that it wouldn’t even cost that much. We could go zero carbon and still have pretty much the lifestyle we have - only with better health because of less air pollution.

Postdatedpandemic · 02/01/2022 20:02

@QueenBee70 just keep looking down at your naval.

beccahamlet · 02/01/2022 20:04

Don't look up

turbonerd · 02/01/2022 20:17

I would just like to add that the PLANET isn’t dying.
But possibly all the species who cannot rapidly adapt to such quick changes, which is what the global warming hullabaloo is about.
Not the warming in itself - it has happened before albeit at that time there were no humans around - but the speed of the warming.

Apart from that I’m not too fussed.
Not since I found out that for the fashion week in Milano the fashion-people were having there secret fashion meetings in their jets just flying above the city to keep - eh their fashion secret? At that point I stopped recycling my newspapers for a full week. Rebel, innit.

Jewel52 · 02/01/2022 20:44
@froobie it's so freaky isn't it. I'm sure someone will try to claim that global warming nonsense.
Yeah, all those scientists and the actual evidence of rising temperatures is all just nonsense 🙄

rc22 · 02/01/2022 20:46

Yes. I have a thermometer on the alarm clock in my bedroom. I was so warm in bed a couple of nights ago that I started to panic I was getting a fever and therefore covid. I then caught a glimpse of the thermometer and it was at about 24 degrees which is where it tends to be in late March/April.

Irishmammy1234 · 02/01/2022 20:56

Hi, it's reasonable to feel really freaked out. Very serious scientists are terrified by the data and the speed at all which this is all happening (faster than even the most pessimistic modelling).

I spent a few days reading the science on this about 5 years ago and found it hard to sleep for a few nights. It might help a little if you try to channel the fear that you rightly feel into action. For us as a family, we reduced our carbon emissions to 3 tons per person per year. We started this nearly five years ago and it has been really positive. In practice it means that we no longer fly, have given up meat and buy very little new (except a few bits for the kids). We drive very little (about 20-30km a month). We cycle and walk everywhere and see the car as something to be used in an emergency . I know that this might not work for everyone but you'd be surprised by how much you can do. 'Green consumption' and recycling is really not getting to the nub of the issue.

The kids have not lost out at all. They love the adventure of taking the train and as ever with kids, they are happy to just be having a nice buzz with their family.

I am aware of all the arguments for not taking action, it's too late, the science isn't true, it's all just doom and gloom etc etc. I admit that the data is pretty scary but don't underestimate how much you can do. We owe it to the little ones to pass on a world in a liveable state and if that means that I never see Sydney Harbour or go on a shopping trip to New York so be it.

Joesmummy1 · 02/01/2022 21:06

If you’re freaked out, write to your MP and ask them to ask the Chancellor to commit enough money to really deal with the climate crisis. Writing to your councillors to support the local LTN isn’t a bad idea either.

We are a tiny island with under 1% of global emissions. We can do sweet FA about this in reality. It’s beyond our control people

Notaordinarygirl · 02/01/2022 21:08

Just wondering how warm it is where you are from? I'm in OZ and we had our coolest and westest start to summer. Things are starting to hear up now though

ParsleySageRosemary · 02/01/2022 21:17

We are a tiny island with under 1% of global emissions. We can do sweet FA about this in reality. It’s beyond our control people

Remember that that figure excludes the amount produced around the world for us, by outsourced manufacture and transportation to us. We can stop being a part of the problem. Stop encouraging other people and countries around the world to take this consumerist path, directly as a market and indirectly by example. Use what little soft power and influence we have left now to show another path.

Apparently New York uses almost as much power as the country of Greece, so I see the point. But we’re not entirely helpless.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 02/01/2022 21:19

@bordermidgebite

No actually someone, Probably a few people, has painted a picture of a low carbon sustainable life

From memory it included

Low carbon electricity ( government and industry responsible)

Low carbon transport -less than 5000 miles per year , one flight every 2 or 3 years

Food -meat a couple of times a month ( ditch beef )
Milk and cheese ( yikes ) were also reduced
Eat local

Home heating -heat pumps or green hydrogen coupled with better insulation- this is incredibly expensive to retro fit and our government really is totally missing this strand , it will need much more government support ( tax the rich)

Ditch cryptocurrency

That's not a prehistoric lifestyle, it's not a preindustrial lifestyle - we get the benefit of modern medicine & entertainment for starters

We will need ( my opinion) wealth redistribution to help everyone get there

This ^

But persuading govts to invest in these schemes, ad especially to tax the wealthy to fund the investment, is going to be well night impossible.

They have no real dog in his race(or think they don't). They just continue to make money for themselves and their friends and think their wealth will cushion them. Perhaps it will if they can afford private armies.
