:)

First proper potential for the winter on Friday - if you live in the Peak district and parts of Scotland. Grin

Hello kitten is it that time already? What are your thoughts on the various scare stories about a hard winter?
Thank you so much for your threads!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 22/10/2019 07:37

It feels a bit late this year!

I tend to not do long term forecasting (On Saturday I couldn't even get it right for 6 hours ahead Grin )

However, the met office and others I know are going for a milder and wetter first half of the winter than average, with the potential for some wind storms. It may switch in the second half of the winter to something much colder later on. No promises though.

Thanks! Just saw too many scare headlines and thinking about planning for elderlies care.... cos there’s nothing else for the newspapers to cover is there??😂😂😂😂

GloriaSmud · 22/10/2019 10:36

The first Snow Watch thread for 2019/20 - I wonder how many they'll be this winter.

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 22/10/2019 12:55

They can keep it.

I think we had a little bit mid November last year, no chance of it settling but it fell for around half an hour.

We haven’t had a really wet winter for ages where I am, I think the last one was 2013 & getting anywhere was a nightmare as even the minor brooks & ditches had flooded.

I’m hoping we don’t get anything like winter 2017/18 again for a while Gloria my Dad died just before the Beast & trying to clear the house/arrange the funeral as well as all the usual stuff was not made any easier by the weather I bet he’d have been laughing his head off though, git

TokyoSushi · 25/10/2019 12:57

My actual favourite thread of the year! Hurrah!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/10/2019 13:59

I think I remember that Bernard.

As you can tell, most of it is falling as rain, but there is some sleet (yellow) and snow (white, squint hard!) mixed in already.

My Reynaud's kicked in again yesterday, while DD is embracing full teenager behaviour, by not taking her jacket for her walk to school, this morning ( 4C ) Hmm.

Sleet forecast for Tuesday and some minus temperatures at night.

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 26/10/2019 20:06

I have decided I’m going to identify as a duck!

It’s just, with in the last half hour, stopped raining for the first time since yesterday morning. Everywhere seems to be flooded & impassable. I can’t remember the last time I heard the fire engine go out so much to rescue bloody idiots.

hoteltango · 26/10/2019 21:30

I'm in central/southern Hampshire and although we've had rain today (14mm) we've not had anything like the flooding elsewhere. But I've just checked my local online weather station and there was a large temperature drop around 6 pm. (The MetOffice webpage shows much the same, so it's obviously not a glitch.) Not so good for anyone who got drenched in the rain.

It was a very impressive cold front that went through!

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 26/10/2019 22:21

It’s dropped really cold here too hoteltango, I think it’s predicted to get down to 1 or 2 overnight. The flooding’s only going to get worse as well, the river isn’t due to peak until around 2am (well 1am) and then again around 10pm tomorrow night.

BestIsWest · 26/10/2019 22:25

We had a few flakes here in S Wales yesterday. I was very excited.

I live in Cumbria and have seen a few photos of the tops of some fells that have had snow.

Saisong · 26/10/2019 22:32

Snowdon has snow on, the pictures look beautiful

OhYouBadBadKitten · 26/10/2019 22:37

I should look at some pictures :)

waves at sandwich

Yup, all about the elder care here too! Main reason I look at the thread.

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 27/10/2019 12:43

What a difference a day makes, I’ve got washing on my small line & it’s drying lovely. The river’s had it’s first peak & it’s not too bad so far, the dog liked being able to paddle without having to climb in & out this morning Grin.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/10/2019 12:44

It's a gorgeous day today! :)

BestIsWest · 27/10/2019 15:18

It’s glorious here - first frost of the year this morning.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 04/11/2019 10:46

Some snow showing potentially for hilly areas of western Ireland, north Wales and possibly, just possibly the Cotswolds on Thursday.

leesmum · 06/11/2019 21:46

Hi Kitten, I always look forward to you and Glorias build up to winter and helping us to be prepared Xmas Smile

OhYouBadBadKitten · 06/11/2019 21:50

Hi Lee :)

It looks like there is still some potential, certainly for some of Scotland's hills tomorrow then tomorrow night the Welsh borders, northern Wales and the Pennines too.

By Saturday Northern Ireland may be affected.

I’ve found you all! This is my favourite thread of the year Grin. I’ve just bought a fabulous new winter coat in the hopes of some serious cold weather, what are our chances this year?!
