:)

First proper potential for the winter on Friday - if you live in the Peak district and parts of Scotland. Grin

Disclaimer: not like, prolonged serious cold, just enough cold snaps to be pretty and allow sledging on the golf course but not long enough to put vulnerable people in too much danger. Ideally not too many snow days off school...

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/11/2019 06:15

lol! You are allowed to enjoy cold weather :)

Fascinatingly there does seem to be a swing towards colder than average conditions coming up. This seems to be in direct contradiction to predictions at the beginning of the thread, though I guess we are still in autumn at present.

I’ll keep watching for updates then!

I am central Europe. We have had around 40cm nearby in the last 3 days. Its still falling now. Its not quite at my house, but is starting around 100m higher so may get some here over the weekend.
Need it to fall though for the winter season to start.

Perihelion · 08/11/2019 23:53

Think we've already got colder than average conditions here. Scraped ice off the car this morning, and we've had a chilly east wind for days. High of 6C today and back below 0C now.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 09/11/2019 07:40

We do have colder than average conditions across the UK.

DSIL has just posted snow photos - at least an inch lying and coming down steadily - lives in North Wales, not far from Snowdonia.

Looks like some snow over the Pennines is possible this afternoon and evening.

Thanks Gloria!

My Mum came to visit today, it was bright sunshine & a hard frost when she left her village, Wales but not far from the border/Oswestry at 8am. She got to me at half 10 & her husband called at 11am to say they had around 3” of snow. He called to say the temp had risen & it turned to rain at about half time so she left then to make it back before dark. They were forecast rain with only a small possibility of snow on the top of the mountains that surround them.

We’ve got really heavy rain & the river level is rising again.

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 09/11/2019 15:42

Half 1, not half time. My phone is ridiculous Blush

OhYouBadBadKitten · 09/11/2019 16:36

That's a worry Bernard.

I think that hills in southern areas may see a little snow come Thursday, Friday.

I live in northern Hampshire. You’d expect being a south coast county that we wouldn’t get that much snow, but I live ‘high’ in the downs between winchester and Basingstoke and for some reason we get a hell of a lot of snow. Usually not this time of year though. Most often it’s Jan-March.

I think it’s something to do with us getting milder temperatures than further north in the country so elsewhere it’s too cold for snow but we are one the ‘sweet spot’

Who knows. Either way it’s a nightmare. February this year I was stuck in the snow for over 8 hours trying to get home and watched the snow plough get itself stuck too.

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 10/11/2019 09:23

Mum made it home safe, she text me just before 5 to say she was back. It was still quite bad in the village & surrounding area but she took it steady.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 10/11/2019 10:07

Soup, some of your snow will be coming from Thames streamers, when we get winds from roughly an ENE direction. Keep an eye on the thread and you may see them pop up at some point.

The met office contingency planners forecast seems to have struggled with November's forecast. Although we are still under westerlies, we've ended up on the cold side of the jet stream with, so we are under a polar maritime regime (winds from the north west). So it is colder than perhaps anticipated and looks to remain so for the short/mid term.

WE HAVE SNOW!

Tors of north Dartmoor, but I drove through slush snow on the way home.

Proper white hills!

I've never seen snow like it this early.

BestIsWest · 13/11/2019 19:56

Snowing a few miles away from me in S Wales too. We had some heavy sleet here.

LostInWales · 13/11/2019 20:18

Snowing near me too but it never snows where I live. When I open the back door it 'feels like snow' though!
