:)

First proper potential for the winter on Friday - if you live in the Peak district and parts of Scotland. Grin

I've been wondering that too Gloria, though I think the bulk of the gales will go through the channel they could graze the south.

There is a separate ex-Sebastian thread

I found a new toy!

The numbers relate to the number of GFS/GEFS model runs that forecast snow for any particular day. The maximum runs being 23. So the higher the number out of 23, the more those particular models are predicting snow.

Of course other models may disagree. But fun.

Thanks! Will keep coming back to check Grin. Appreciate the difficulty for people planning public and community services though, but it feels early for snow here in the tropical south east!

RunningNinja79 · 25/11/2019 19:13

Thanks for the updates

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/11/2019 22:21

You're welcome :)

Nothing too different in this evenings model runs. A huge change to cold weather at the end of the week

OP posts:
OhYouBadBadKitten · 26/11/2019 08:10

Still lots of very cold showing this weekend. There are model disagreements as to the evolution of a low pressure on Saturday that may bump moist (warmer) air into the very cold air with the potential for bringing some snow from the South. It looks most likely I think at this point not to make any inroads.

It looks in general like a dry cold spell, with the greatest risk in the latter half of the weekend and early next week of snow showers in the east.

Mid week next week, models diverge as to whether we stay cold or move back into mild air.

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 26/11/2019 09:31

It’s so mild today! As well as wet & blowy.

Friday looks like a crisp sunny walk to school though, my favourite sort. I can’t believe we’re almost in to December & winter.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 26/11/2019 12:39

It's going to be a bit of a shock I think on Friday Grin

OP posts:
BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 26/11/2019 13:44

Indeed, still better than yet more rain! Dc2 has already lost one of his gloves* that they’ve only had since half term Hmm. He’s decided it’s not a problem he’ll just wear it on his coldest hand Grin

*However, I’m getting quite good at this parenting lark & ordered a 10 pack from Amazon.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 26/11/2019 14:23

So GFS is predicting a decent chance of snow the day before election day.
Of course it's too far in advance to forecast, but it's an amusing added extra.

Grin The Weather Knows

I applied for a postal vote this time. The polling station is only 2 miles away but it can feel a lot longer if it’s pouring down & dc5(2) hates his rain cover, walks slowly &/or is heavy to push in a buggy.

megletthesecond · 26/11/2019 16:34

"Coldest hand" Grin bernard.

Cold and crisp can't come soon enough. I miss blue sky and drying weather.

TheWoollybacksWife · 26/11/2019 21:32

I look forward to this thread every year but DD2 has her driving test on the 11th so I'm snow watching even more than normal.

Coldest hand 🤣

OhYouBadBadKitten · 26/11/2019 21:53

Coming back to the near future, there's a reasonable chance of some snow showers down the north eastern coast, including Edinburgh on Thursday night into Friday.

OP posts:
Perihelion · 27/11/2019 01:52

Edinburgh you say? Grin
Shrouded in fog right now.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/11/2019 07:42

Yeah, certainly no guarantees Grin but there is some chance. As is ever with these things, if snow showers develop, some will still be left disappointed/relieved.
Sounds like a massive cop out doesn't it! Grin

OP posts:
OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/11/2019 07:46

One real risk we need to watch for early next week, with plunging temperatures, high pressure and so much moisture about is the risk of fog, perhaps freezing in places.

OP posts:
OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/11/2019 07:47

A bit like Edinburgh at present Wink but freezier.

OP posts:
GloriaSmud · 27/11/2019 11:08

OYBBK - Grin
I think 'freezier' is a word that forecasters should start using in their weather forecasts!

GloriaSmud · 27/11/2019 11:14

Thoughts from Netweather.

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 27/11/2019 16:07

He was just so matter of fact when he said it Grin

Hopefully some cold will kill off all the bugs. Although freezing fog isn’t a nice prospect, it tends to linger round here.

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 29/11/2019 09:31

Brr, lovely crisp & sunny school run this morning.

Glove update: No cold hand necessary, he found the missing one in the cloakroom Wink

OhYouBadBadKitten · 29/11/2019 09:49

It is looking like any snow risk over the next few days is confined to eastern Scottish hills and along eastern coasts. Just the potential for a few snow showers really.

Polling Eve and Polling Day keep throwing up some fascinating charts.

cheninblanc · 29/11/2019 11:29

Oybk - we have a funeral on polling day and in a new village which I imagine could be cut off if it shows heavy. We sit on a hill of country roads! Of an the day's I hope it doesn't for my friend
