uh oh

No idea where this sprung up from, I've been a bit neglectful. Warnings of a short period of 70-80mph winds. Very nasty. Met office warning of widespread disruption, unsurprising if winds are to be that strong.

Can people keep this one bumped please, its going to catch a lot of people out I think.

Nothing in Penrith, it's actually quite sunny!

lia66 · 23/02/2017 10:04

MadisonAvenue do you mind sharing which road as I think I'm near you (it's CC that's closed right?)

I'm in a very exposed area and something has just landed on my kitchen flat roof with a bang. 5 yr old dd is now hysterical. Gahh I'm South Staffs/West mids too.

Mummylin · 23/02/2017 10:05

dementedma I am so envious of your snow, we very rarely get any where I live !

Archimandrite · 23/02/2017 10:05

Nothing untoward in Leeds yet. Is actually brightening up a little. Rainy and normally breezy so far. Wonder if this is the lull before the storm or whether this IS the storm for us.

PoisonousSmurf · 23/02/2017 10:08

Works for me Leesmum. The green dot is for 'focus'. Double click to get closer.

atheistmantis · 23/02/2017 10:10

It's only 33mph here according to that link (thanks PP) but it's just blown over our full wheelie bin. I dread to think what 90mph will look like - we're supposed to get it later.

NameChanger22 · 23/02/2017 10:11

There are some twigs on the road where I live.

I think I'll stay inside - just in case.

HmmOkay · 23/02/2017 10:17

68mph winds here in Shropshire according to the Beeb. Been out with the dog and it really feels like it.

So loud, it feels like the roar of the waves on a boat.

lampfromikea · 23/02/2017 10:21

Essex/Londonshire was lovely and calm at 7 this morning but is wild out now. According to the windmap the worst area has only just made landfall in north Wales so reckon it could get worse for much of the midlands/south east as it passes over lunchtime.
The house two doors down from us has just lost a couple of roof slates, though it is in the process of being re-roofed so I think they just weren't secured properly.

We currently have a homebuyers report surveyor in, poor guy was just up a ladder checking over our flat roof whilst getting battered by random debris.

lia66 · 23/02/2017 10:21

Just popped outside, sale sign and recycling bin down. So far, looks like around 6 roof tiles gone. Sad

LouKout · 23/02/2017 10:21

Just got a wee bit of heavy rain in Edinburgh. Bit underwhelmed.

GloriaSmud · 23/02/2017 10:25

The Guardian have live updates here (I'm quite liking the 'Doris Day' that they're calling today!) Homes in Northern Ireland have lost power.
Latest Top20 gusts from Netweather.

It's getting blustery here (Leicester) ~ being bin day there are empty wheelie bins all over the place.

JeepRenegade · 23/02/2017 10:26

I'm a bit confused by that website because having clicked on where I am, it says we're currently having 37km winds but there is t even the tiniest breeze here...sun is out. No sign of anything?!

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 23/02/2017 10:28

OK getting quite bad here now.

DSC watching a DVD with DC and have turned the volume up.

DP have called from Shropshire where they are staying with my DSIS and it's really bad there. DF has had to go out and tether down the trampoline.

MadisonAvenue · 23/02/2017 10:33

lia it was the A460 near Hednesford park according to the report.

I'm watching the trees blowing around in the woodland behind the houses opposite us. It's got much stronger now.

vichill · 23/02/2017 10:34

its bad here in Stoke which is unfortunate considering today's by election. I have read right wing voters are more likely to brave the weather on a polling day.

AQuietMind · 23/02/2017 10:38

There is a good blow here in Lincolnshire, Don't think we have peaked yet though at all.

Tinklebinkle · 23/02/2017 10:52

All going off in my street! Everyone's wheelie bins are rolling down the street. My next door neighbour who is, luckily, my DM has had half her roof fly off onto the street below. I've just had take my life in my hands to move her little car to avoid anymore of the roof flying off onto it. Every time the wind gusts my letterbox bangs as though someone is knocking. I've been up to the door four times before I realised what was happening. Oh and the Ddogs cant get out to pee because the wind keeps locking their dog flap. Poor Ddogs and DM and poor me who went to the shop and forgot to buy junk snacks for current lock-down. Grin

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 23/02/2017 10:58

I have read right wing voters are more likely to brave the weather on a polling day.

That's true. Or those that are voting for change so left to right or right to left iyswim.

GloriaSmud · 23/02/2017 11:00

Has got really gusty in the last 1/2 hour and the temperature's dropping as well (10.6c at 2.56am and is 8.8C now.) Think the worst for us is to come between now and 2pm.

Bombaybunty · 23/02/2017 11:04

Pane of glass has just blown out of my greenhouse. Fortunately it didn't shatter.
Very gusty but not cold here in Surrey.

Justmuddlingalong · 23/02/2017 11:07

Been raining steadily since last night here in Fife. Blowing through snow now. Won't lie though as the ground's saturated.

lia66 · 23/02/2017 11:08

Really bad in my garden now and just heard more tiles crashing down. Pic was before the latest crash

Latest travel news ~ QE2 bridge has just been closed ~ not expected to reopen until 6pm.

SailAwayWithMeHoney · 23/02/2017 11:15

Apparently have wind gusts of 45mph in Kent (not surprised they've closed the Dartford crossing!!) but the sun is out so at least that's something.

Why do we always get storms on bin day Hmm
