uh oh

No idea where this sprung up from, I've been a bit neglectful. Warnings of a short period of 70-80mph winds. Very nasty. Met office warning of widespread disruption, unsurprising if winds are to be that strong.

Can people keep this one bumped please, its going to catch a lot of people out I think.

Overview of West Mids at the moment is showing wind gusts of about 34mph at the moment. Due to get up to 69!

kel1234 · 23/02/2017 08:22

It's quite windy here in the northwest, and raining quite hard.
Thank goodness I've only got to nip round the corner, and haven't got to go out any further than that

Gosh if this is only 34mph I dread to think what 69mph is going to be like!

SloanePeterson · 23/02/2017 08:24

Alabaster, I tipped my trampoline over yesterday and folded the patio furniture down and put it on top of it to weigh it down. Ours could cause a lot of damage if the wind caught it

TheImprobableGirl · 23/02/2017 08:27

I've folded Patio furniture down but can't do anything about slides etc- just stacked them all as closely as possible to each other near the house... will that do?! Just taken the bins into the garage

alabasterangel · 23/02/2017 08:29

So is it better on its side? I'm in staffs and we're in an exposed area. No kidding here - their gate is already one hinge off now so I've just gone and wedged it flat open against the wall with bricks. Bin day and bins are all over the rubbish everywhere is crazy. I assumed if I tipped it over I'd be making more of a wall for the wind to catch? I can put it on it's side against the house but I'm worried about it then going through a window!

alabasterangel · 23/02/2017 08:34

It's the sort with nets and it's off the floor. It's bobbing about at the moment and their house has several single glazed Victorian windows at the same level. We do have Bungy cords for camping but I don't know what to attach the bloody things to and fearful I'm just turning it into a giant catapult Sad

SorrelSoup · 23/02/2017 08:38

Dh just been for a run on the beach in Pembrokeshire. Lovely bright day. He's said it's fine for us to pop down there if we hold hands but we'll probably only last 20 minutes.

leesmum · 23/02/2017 08:40

Wind is starting to pick up in North Manchester, luckily the DS's are off for half term so we don't have to leave the house, stay safe everyone.

Newtssuitcase · 23/02/2017 08:50

Do you have tent pegs alabaster? Ours also has side nets but its tied down and secured with about 40 tent pegs.

Perihelion · 23/02/2017 09:01

No snow Sad a fuckton of rain though. Am being baited by friends sending me pictures if their snow.

alabasterangel · 23/02/2017 09:06

Yes I've got my own tent pegs. I'll try that!

hollyisalovelyname · 23/02/2017 09:08

AquaLatte · 23/02/2017 09:15

Picking up here in Essex.

Was totally calm an hour or so ago

Mummylin · 23/02/2017 09:39

Quite calm here in Bournemouth. It's a little bit windy but nothing to worry about at the moment. We even have bursts of sunshine, have I slept through it or hasn't it arrived here yet ?

leesmum · 23/02/2017 09:45

Fantastic website showing wind patterns, it's brilliant how you can scroll in and see all the details earth.nullschool.net/#current/wind/surface/level/overlay=mean_sea_level_pressure/orthographic=-4.68,52.08,3000

leesmum · 23/02/2017 09:45

What is the little green dot for?

OhtoblazeswithElvira · 23/02/2017 09:51

Worked for me! Thanks leesmum, now I can see what the actual wind speed is here - quite far below the 94mph recorded at Capel Curig which is not far from here!

MadisonAvenue · 23/02/2017 09:56

dementedma that's a lot of snow!

I've walked the dog, avoiding the woods where I usually walk him. It was difficult to walk forwards at some points and it's not at it's worst yet. Just heard a travel alert on local radio that an A road nearby is closed due to a fallen tree, so I'm hoping no one was hit by it as it's a busy town centre road.

leesmum · 23/02/2017 09:58

Glad it's worked OhtoblazeswithElvira it's fascinating isn't it? dementedma am a bit jealous of your snow Grin
