uh oh

No idea where this sprung up from, I've been a bit neglectful. Warnings of a short period of 70-80mph winds. Very nasty. Met office warning of widespread disruption, unsurprising if winds are to be that strong.

Can people keep this one bumped please, its going to catch a lot of people out I think.

Someone has been killed by debris blowing around in Wolverhampton city centre, right in the main shopping area. Reports are saying that it was a shop sign which blew off a building. Just awful.

atheistmantis · 23/02/2017 13:24

Yes, I just got an alert on my phone to say that a woman has died :( How awful.

Soubriquet · 23/02/2017 13:29

Another angle of that tree near my house. Luckily no one was hurt

Poor woman Sad

All that ivy on that tree suggests it may not have been particularly healthy. People need to look after damaged trees. Someone else could have been killed.

Soubriquet · 23/02/2017 13:37

The building behind the tree, that really old one is an old hospital. Been shut down for years. There's no maintenance of that area apart from the odd shrub cut back. It's all chained off and the hospital itself is all boarded off. Shame really as it's a beautiful building

So I guess the tree was an accident waiting to happen really but luckily no one was hurt

Poor woman Sad
Think things have calmed down a little here (Leicester)

crawlingonallfours · 23/02/2017 14:11

Really surprised to report that we landed on time at Birmingham in the last hour. Wasn't a very enjoyable landing but glad to be back. Sounds like it's been terrible.

Newtssuitcase · 23/02/2017 14:15

I have two trees down that I can see from the safety of the house.

I've also just remembered that the DC still have a tent up in the woods. Suspect that might now be stuck in a tree!

runninglikemad · 23/02/2017 14:17

So sad about the lady in Wolverhampton being killed, it really is a bad storm for our country anyway.

AQuietMind · 23/02/2017 14:19

I've just recieved a message from dd's school saying the busses are on their way to collect them so to expect her home very soon.

Newtssuitcase · 23/02/2017 14:19

DSs are about to travel home on a double decker..

AQuietMind · 23/02/2017 14:22

Sorry I didn't finish.

Luckily i am at home, not sure what will happen to dc if parents work and they can not get in!

Its really picked up here now in Lincs, All my 'full' bins have gone over twice now and my newly built fence is stating to bend Sad

AQuietMind · 23/02/2017 14:23

Oh gosh, I never thought of that, dd will be on a double decker too, it is all extremely open farmland on the bus route too so no wind protection.

nigelforgotthepassword · 23/02/2017 14:37

Pretty blowy in Herts-have just been to rescue the Guinea pigs as the roof had come off their hutch. But due to calm down a bit from about now.

Dawndonnaagain · 23/02/2017 14:58

Next door's fence is down and their large buddleia has been uprooted.

gobbymare · 23/02/2017 15:00

I'm on a DFDS ferry coming g from amsterdam to south Shields and we have been delayed by 5 hours and told to expect a rough crossing Envy

notsomanky · 23/02/2017 15:00

DD has a friend that returned from a GCSE trip to Iceland with about 30 other girls from her school on a flight to Manchester today it was rather eventful here

Stopyourhavering · 23/02/2017 15:05

I was woken at 5am by the gale- went out to secure wheelie bins!!
Powers now been off since 8am and not expected on again till 6pm- have a gas hob so at least can cook/ heat water but no other means of heating. Dd and ds braved a cold shower but I was having none of it!
Winds of 93mph recorded just a few miles from where I live , but fortunately no structural damage to house but quite a few trees blown down
I've known worse and at least I was on annual leave so haven't needed to leave house!

Destinysdaughter · 23/02/2017 15:18

Bloody fence has blown down! Annoying as it means Ill have to communicate with my horrid neighbour to get it fixed. Angry

Wetoopere · 23/02/2017 15:33

I was supposed to be in Uni tonight but trains all cancelled. Not that bad here by our standards (Cumbrian coast) but I think we are on the edge anyway

RandomMess · 23/02/2017 15:37

Weoopere I am stuck on a train in Cumbria Sad Sad Preston station roof has blown off Shock

Have no idea when we will be able to get to the next station - Lancaster & get off Sad

dementedma · 23/02/2017 15:41

my mother was due to travel from Scotland to Wigan by train today, but the chap at the station here informed her that the train was only going as far as Carlisle and then there "might" be a bus or something. I'm very glad she decided not to go ahead and just came back home.
DD still stuck at airport and on verge of giving up and heading back into London, if she can scrape up enough cash to get the train back into the city.
My sister will put her up for the night. She is needed back in work rather urgently tomorrow though, which is going to cause her problems with a missed deadline...
