uh oh

No idea where this sprung up from, I've been a bit neglectful. Warnings of a short period of 70-80mph winds. Very nasty. Met office warning of widespread disruption, unsurprising if winds are to be that strong.

Can people keep this one bumped please, its going to catch a lot of people out I think.

I'm in South Staffs, we've just walked the dog in the countryside and it was calm but started to rain. The Forestry Commission have posted on Facebook that the local visitors centre and surrounding trails will be closed tomorrow.

Newtssuitcase · 22/02/2017 21:06

I think this is yours *whats

TAF: EGGP 221824Z 2218/2318 27014KT 9999 SCT025 BECMG 2218/2220 16004KT TEMPO 2218/2306 8000 RADZ BKN014 BECMG 2300/2303 22015G25KT BECMG 2306/2309 24020G35KT TEMPO 2306/2308 4000 +RA BKN009 PROB40 TEMPO 2308/2312 6000 SHRA BKN014 BECMG 2309/2312 29035G55KT BECMG 2315/2318 31020G30KT

I think that means the strongest gusts are 55kts. Thats gale force 10 again similar to east midlands

Whatslovegottodo · 22/02/2017 21:11

Thanks for the info newt. Google tells me 10 means trees blown down and considerable damage Shock.

Newtssuitcase · 22/02/2017 21:17

Just had a little play clicking on the airports on the map. Birmingham seems to be getting the worst with wind up to 60kts. Cardiff also showing 60kts. The middle band is definitely the worst. Once you get above leeds it seems to drop off.

Newtssuitcase · 22/02/2017 21:18

60kts is "violent storm"

OhYouBadBadKitten · 22/02/2017 21:59

This coming storm starts off as nothing much then rapidly deepens as a warm front breakaway low. Hits the west around Wales earlyish tomorrow and exits the Wash (ish) early evening.

70-80mph will remove exposed dodgy tiles and perhaps more. Will bring down trees and disrupt power supplies.

In the amber area I'd consider bringing children home early from school. If I were around tomorrow I'd be giving detailed heads ups of worst winds, but alas I'm not.

Thank you

paddingtonbear1 · 22/02/2017 22:27

I cycle 7 miles to work. Am assuming this will be a bad idea/dangerous tomorrow morning? I live near Stockport.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 22/02/2017 22:27

that's ok. :)
I hope tomorrow goes well for everyone and that the storm isn't as bad as feared. Catch you all in a couple of days.

pinkkoala · 23/02/2017 00:34

How bad do you think northampton will get it. We have amber warning. I am worried as i was in kent when the storm of 87, that was awful, scary. We had a lot of damage to my mum and dads house.

Perihelion · 23/02/2017 01:16

Come on temperature and hurry up and drop. It's not going to snow at 5c.

BlackeyedSusan · 23/02/2017 01:52

hoping the fucking roofers were not as crap as they seemed and I keep my tiles. of course I have the west side of the roof over my flat.

we are predicted gusts of force 10.

TartYvette · 23/02/2017 02:10

It's currently hitting the west coast of Ireland and in my 10 years here I have never heard anything so bad. I imagine there will be a lot of damage in the morning, I just hope my house and I are still standing.Shock

OhYouBadBadKitten · 23/02/2017 03:26

Think that the storm is going to be a little earlier and a little stronger than yesterday's models suggested.

Not so much as a tiny breeze here in North Yorks. What a humongous surprise.....HmmBlush

olliegarchy99 · 23/02/2017 05:37

blowing quite hard here (welsh borders) and woke me at about 4.30 am !
weather forecast shows very strong winds late morning so I am taking dog out before we are buffeted off the hill I live on. Usually something goes flying but hope it is not me or dog Smile

LordRothermereBlackshirtCunt · 23/02/2017 05:38

It's very gusty here in North Oxfordshire.

user1487704718 · 23/02/2017 05:39

Haha good luck Ollie x

BarchesterFlowers · 23/02/2017 05:53

We are flying into Heathrow at 930, then Leeds just after lunch. I hate flying at the best of times. Let's hope the met office are over egging it.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 23/02/2017 05:56

User, you are in the yellow area and will miss the worst. It's also not due in your area for some time yet.

Aberystwyth sea front hotel here. Wind is so loud.

Will we be ok driving back to.Birmingham today?

crawlingonallfours · 23/02/2017 06:12

Barchester we are also flying, arriving at Birmingham at lunchtime. Planning for a delay as it looks pretty shocking around that time. Good luck!
