uh oh

No idea where this sprung up from, I've been a bit neglectful. Warnings of a short period of 70-80mph winds. Very nasty. Met office warning of widespread disruption, unsurprising if winds are to be that strong.

Can people keep this one bumped please, its going to catch a lot of people out I think.

I'm in the north west and it doesn't seem too bad where I am, raining fairly heavy but nothing more than that

nannynick · 22/02/2017 07:55

Thursday morning rush hour looks like fun in Surrey. I am driving round M25, then up country lanes to work and parking next to a wood.

ChipInTheSugar · 22/02/2017 07:57

Bugger. Driving from Midlands to Wiltshire-ish way today, and Midlands to Bristol tomorrow ... Confused

SorrelSoup · 22/02/2017 08:41

I've just started a thread asking for travel advice! I'm travelling from Midlands to coastal south Wales. Should I go tonight, early hours or not at all? Think early hours is out if the question now tbh.

PoisonousSmurf · 22/02/2017 08:43

Headlines in the next few days 'Doris the Destroyer'.
Doesn't seem right.

PoisonousSmurf · 22/02/2017 08:45

SorrelSoup. Travel as early as possible in the morning. The worst of the winds are late morning on Thursday in the central midlands.

SorrelSoup · 22/02/2017 08:49

I know. But we'll be out the Midlands in an hour. Our destination says winds arriving at 3am. Are we mad to even go??

My Solar Powered Topiary Ball is about fly off here in North Yorkshire....

MistressMolecules · 22/02/2017 08:53

I am in NW (Lancashire) and the winds have been picking up quite a lot and then dropping again (currently very calm but very grey). I'm within the amber warning zone - amber from 6 am - 6 pm on met office site for tomorrow, though the warning info states that they don't know at what point the strong winds will arrive. I have to echo a previous poster, both myself and my husband were certain "Doris" had been and gone already!

Iris65 · 22/02/2017 08:55

Crazy wind overnight and this morning in the West Midlands

Gwilt160981 · 22/02/2017 08:56

Doris took her time.... the cow been rattling our letter box on the door in night woke us up

Perihelion · 22/02/2017 09:21

Most of the snow forecast for N England and S and Central Scotland is also due around the morning rush hour on Thursday. Although not as strong winds as further South, it could be blizzard conditions.

BackInBlack78 · 22/02/2017 09:25

Doris can piss off! We had enough devastation with Desmond up here in Carlisle Sad

UnGoogleable · 22/02/2017 09:48

The wind has dropped right off here in the North West now.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 22/02/2017 10:12

updated warnings enlarge the amber area further south.
Oh dear.

We're right in the middle of the amber warning area now, rather than on the edge of it as we were before. Bit concerned about DD1 traveling tomorrow, she goes to college by coach but the place is on high ground and in the middle of nowhere.
I've just moved stuff/weighted everything down in the garden ~ hope I've done enough out there. Not sure what to do about the bins, as they're guaranteed to go over if I put them in the usual place for bin day!

Perihelion · 22/02/2017 11:30

Amber warning for snow now too. Edinburgh is just outside of that but still in the yellow Grin

GloriaSmud · 22/02/2017 11:38

When I saw that snow warning I thought, 'that'll make Perihelion happy!'

I'm getting snow tomorrow!

So excited. Love a snow day.

BlackeyedSusan · 22/02/2017 12:25

OhYouBadBadKitten · 22/02/2017 15:26

Well I am surprised. I would say that last night and today are the worst weather I've seen this winter, wind wise, and not even a peep of a warning or alert here in Bristol.

If tomorrow is going to be worse I am a tad concerned.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 22/02/2017 17:21

today wasn't warning worthy, there are specific criteria, but it has been rather blowy.
Tomorrow does look bad, especially for the north norfolk, lincolnshire coast I think.
