uh oh

No idea where this sprung up from, I've been a bit neglectful. Warnings of a short period of 70-80mph winds. Very nasty. Met office warning of widespread disruption, unsurprising if winds are to be that strong.

Can people keep this one bumped please, its going to catch a lot of people out I think.

Shock
SoleBizzz · 23/02/2017 06:15

There is scaffolding at our hotel windiw. It has started to rattle quite loudly.. I'm hoping it doesn't crash through our window 😕

OhtoblazeswithElvira · 23/02/2017 06:45

It's been a quiet night but here is the wind!

GloriaSmud · 23/02/2017 06:45

Bit blowy with the odd gust here (Leicester) at the moment.
Think those flying, especially into Midlands airports around lunchtime are wise to expect delays.

SoleBizzz I would take it slowly ~ trafficWales and trafficEngland might be able to help when it comes to travel news.
Also trafficScotland for travel in Scotland. It's snowing already up there ~ Braemar snowgate isn't closed (yet!)

The rain associated with Doris is looking quite impressive on raintoday!

SoleBizzz · 23/02/2017 06:49

Gloria thank you x

I'm hoping we will be ok. Set out at midday maybe.

SorrelSoup · 23/02/2017 07:00

We got to our destination in rural coastal south Wales after midnight. The journey was frightening. Wind sounds horrendous outside. What are 60mph winds like? Are they strong enough to knock us over? Can we take dc out?

Newtssuitcase · 23/02/2017 07:15

East mids airport windforce has been updated overnight to 60kts until 3pm which is gale force 11 (violent storm potential for major damage). last night was very calm but the rain has just arrived.

Upyourdaisy · 23/02/2017 07:22

I'm very surprised by how windy it is down south, we're about 10 miles from the coast, little village. The wind has been quite strong all night

GloriaSmud · 23/02/2017 07:25

Rain has arrived here as well.
SoleBizzz That probably would be a wise thing to do.
Sorrel would wait until this afternoon before going out. Wind's going to be very strong around coastal areas.

olliegarchy99 · 23/02/2017 07:30

I have walked/dragged the dog Grin and the wind is definitely increasing and my area (welsh borders) is now included in the amber zone so will batten hatches and hope for the best. Some blue sky though so at least it has stopped raining.

exLtEveDallas · 23/02/2017 07:39

Currently blowing like mad here in Holyhead. Woke me up at about 5:30 and no signs of it dying down yet. Poor old DNephew has a driving test at 8:30 - I'm hoping they cancel it.

We are driving back up at lunchtime, not looking forward to that at all - and DNephew has just pointed out that if they close the bridge we'll be stuck anyway!

TobleroneBoo · 23/02/2017 07:42

Very blowy here in Essex today!

GloriaSmud · 23/02/2017 07:43

61mph gust recorded at Aberdaron.
Stopped raining here but temperature and pressure dropping ~ 9.5C and 985hpa.

LadyFlumpalot · 23/02/2017 07:44

Bloody hell, woke up in Dorset to the sounds of an ocean crashing about in my garden. At least that's what it sounded like with the wind and the rain. It's bizarre, half an hour later and it's calm(ish) and blue skies!

Newtssuitcase · 23/02/2017 07:47

Here she is - just hitting land

Newtssuitcase · 23/02/2017 07:51

I've had the power packs on charge overnight and have the heating on to gt the house warm in case the power goes. I live in the middle of a wood. We will get trees down and the power is likely to go because its dodgy at the best of times. Hopefully that will be all. Heavy rain just started here in East Mids.

Fingers crossed that nobody experiences any damage.

Penfold007 · 23/02/2017 07:52

South West London 45mph gusts at the moment. Expected to peak around midday at 58mph.

OhtoblazeswithElvira · 23/02/2017 07:53

Wow, this is bad. We live in a windy area but the only time I recall wind like this was 3 years ago (almost to the day) when we had the red warning.... but there was little rain then! Keeping an eye on garden fence whih looks like it won't make it Sad

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 23/02/2017 08:02

We're in the usually weatherless Midlands. It definitely sounds windy out there!

It's supposed to get worse as the morning goes on? Is that right?

RedBugMug · 23/02/2017 08:02

se.
very windy, the chimneys are howling and the scaffolds nearby rattling.
and trains are delayed of course...

Newtssuitcase · 23/02/2017 08:06

Yes midlands is supposed to get worse as the morning progresses and then calms down a bit after about 3ish

TinfoilHattie · 23/02/2017 08:12

Snow here just outside Glasgow but sleety wet stuff and certainly not the 10cm plus that people were predicting yesterday. Not particularly windy - that appears to be worse further south. Usually we get the very worst of any storm.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 23/02/2017 08:17

West Midlands currently has howling wind and rain Sad

alabasterangel · 23/02/2017 08:17

I'm right in the middle of the amber area and next door are away. They have a HUGE trampoline and I've no idea whether to try securing it. And if so, how/to what? It's already all over the place. Any ideas?

TheImprobableGirl · 23/02/2017 08:18

We're in Worcester- wind is really up at the moment, hope it doesn't get too much worse. Bins are over :(
