Hi Jersey I posted towards the end of the other thread, I'm in rural Cheshire, towards the south east of the county. When I posted just over 10 minutes ago I said it was blustery and wet. However even in the last few minutes here the wind is getting stronger and the trees are swaying all over the place. We're not even supposed to be getting the worst of this storm. It's definitely getting windy enough here for us to lose power, which happens quite frequently.

Yep thats my main worry here as well is losing power.

Blustery here atm but sunny. DH has put the washing line away just in case and it is perfect drying weather. Gah!

I'm going to peer out and see the sea state here, I can't hear it so it's not too bad.

Marking place. Gusty here on the Welsh coast, we are right by a weather station so I can say with authority that the wind is gusting 28-38 mph at the moment. Our windiest time is predicted to be this afternoon according to that site, we will be comfortably sheltering in the pub next door with it's log fire and thick walls and lots of lovely alcohol. Love this interactive map and it's big arrows.

We have plenty of wood and am going off to get supplies of torches/candles and food to last a couple of days.

will still be able to cook food even if the power goes out and as long as we have some bottled water we should survive a number of days without power.

Jersey I've got a friend in Brittany who says it's pretty nasty there already and going to get worse - so I'll keep my fingers crossed for all of you in the Channel Islands.

Have been speaking to friends in a hurricane prone area in the states who have given the following tips just in case:

Torches and batteries ready. Take any rechargeable batteries out of TV remotes etc and charge them up to full.
Charge all mobile phones. Get a corded phone if poss although the telephone lines might be out.
Candles and matches as back up but be aware lots of damage after storms tends to come from fires.
Garden cleared
Car in garage ideally packed with an OFRS just in case you have to decamp to friends/relatives.
Food and bottled water enough to last a few days. They recommend cooking a joint of meat. To eat cold.
Camping kettle/Stove plus fuel
Freezer blocks in freezer in case power goes and you need to keep milk etc cold for a bit longer. If power goes avoid opening your freezer unless you absolutely have to since that will help it to stay cold for longer.
If you are worried about tree damage to your house and there's a chance you might have to get it of the building quickly, sleep in your clothes with sturdy shoes by the bed (along with a torch by everyone's bed). Running out into the street in a storm is bad, running out Into the street naked in a storm is worse!

But what do I do about DD2's ski course tomorrow? It will involve me driving from Brighton to Tunbridge Wells first thing in the morning and I read somewhere not to undertake unnecessary journeys.

Also Newark is very sunny(not normal) and reasonably blustery. On a scale of 1-10 I'd say 6.

We're a little further north though.

Sunny and a bit windy in the east midlands.

Checking in from Leicestershire here. Bright and blustery just now. DH having to drive to Cambridge in a little while to collect DS (17) who went to see friends but clutch has gone on his car so in need of rescue. I just want them both home by dark. Hopefully it won't hit the East until much later but not sure I would want to drive very far in this wind and it hasn't even started raining yet.

I've paid up-front. Beginners course tomorrow followed by an Intermediates course on Friday. I'm going to have to ring them aren't I?
