Yes thats annoying me as well .People on my facebook saying 'oh its nothing, just a litte bit breezy'

Well duh. Its only 2pm!

wavesandsmiles · 27/10/2013 14:08

Getting windier here in Guernsey and glad I live on the east coast and not the west.... My older 2 DCs very excitedly moved into the attic bedrooms a few weeks ago, thinking they may regret that tonight. I shall be prepared for sound of music style appearances through the evening, but hopefully if it does get super stormy they will sleep through as I did at about the same age (and also having not long been in an attic room) when there was the storm in 1987.

Nothing above force 9 gusts reported at the airport observatory, but I understand the actual storm isn't due until tonight?

DebrisSlide · 27/10/2013 14:08

youarewinning, cyclonic in this context just means that the wind direction will change as the depression moves through. The possible F12 is the worrying bit Shock.

LadyCelia · 27/10/2013 14:09

One of my cats has been acting really strangely for the past few hours, he's yowling constantly, and shivering between us on the sofa now - he's also herded the kitten in from the garden. Is he just being odd or do cats get a feeling of bad weather do you think?

AChristmassyJerseySpud · 27/10/2013 14:09

Wavesandsmiles

Its tonight from about 6pm we are due to be hit

Augustaprodworthy · 27/10/2013 14:09

may I ask a silly question? Where do all the birds go when the weather is bad? I wouldn't want to be a in a twig nest in a tree tonight. Do they have secret bunkers?
On the plus side, all the ladybirds that have invaded my house this week (and there were loads) have now disappeared...

dingit · 27/10/2013 14:10

My cat is acting oddly and restless too!

Herisson · 27/10/2013 14:13

My parents are right by Cobo, wavesandsmiles. Is it getting pretty windy?

Augustaprodworthy · 27/10/2013 14:13

and why is my sister persisting to caravan in this bloody weather? Spending the night in a small metal box on little legs surrounded by trees? Why?

ziggiestardust · 27/10/2013 14:15

august I expect they seek shelter in abandoned buildings. There's an old disused church building at the back of my house, and DH says he's seen quite a few birds squidging in through the gaps in the tiles Grin

ControlCreeeaaak · 27/10/2013 14:16

One of my two cats was yowling and behaving really strange earlier too. She's settled down now though (just as the weather's started to turn a bit squally!). West Mids here, and the met office doesn't have it penned for being too bad here.

ihatethecold · 27/10/2013 14:17

love those plane landings. i would be beside myself if i was on that plane!

Geckos48 · 27/10/2013 14:17

The met has reduced its gust speeds over the course of the day for here (for tomorrow)

Hopefully, It will all just blow over ;)

celestialsquirrels · 27/10/2013 14:21

Hi I have just flown in from abroad with DH and kids - so I'm not up on this storm malarkey. DH reckons he is driving from oxfordshire to devon this evening to go shooting tomorrow. I think it is irresponsible to be on the road and clearly no birds will be flying by the sounds of it. If he gets hit by a tree I will be furious!!! Is he mad or am I overreacting?

wavesandsmiles · 27/10/2013 14:25

herrison it is windy yes, haven't ventured to the west coast but imagine its much windier there than here on the east. And apparently getting worse in a few hours... Might yet have to go for a drive to settle down my non sleeping 3 month old so if I head to the coast I will let you know what it is like

In the very centre of London-should I be buying bottled water?

Herisson · 27/10/2013 14:30

Thank you, waves , but I'd stay away from the coast road if I were you! It's bad enough there with normal winter winds!

Sleepingbunnies · 27/10/2013 14:33

Right, serious question, am I being overly paranoid in thinking of putting my DDs to sleep in another room? Trees are right outside their bedroom window...

Iv just bought our guineas into the kitchen...

NoWayNoHow · 27/10/2013 14:37

celestialsquirrels my DH is supposed to be driving back from Devon to London tonight and is point blank refusing to just play it slightly safe and leave earlier. I'm with you! Your DH won't be shooting anything tomorrow!

SilverApples · 27/10/2013 14:39

'If he gets hit by a tree I will be furious!!! Is he mad or am I overreacting?'

Insure him online for a fabulous amount.

DameDeepRedBetty · 27/10/2013 14:40

I don't have to drive anywhere until tomorrow lunchtime, and have just moved the car from a street with trees to one without.

I like that XCW map LostInWales linked. Here it is again for anyone who can't be arsed to go back up the thread... funky big arrows to hover on

mignonnette · 27/10/2013 14:40

Wind is getting up in West Suffolk now and drowning out the noise of the radio as it whistles down the chimney. The towels were dry in record time though.
.We were going on a nature walk this afternoon but maybe not? Imagine the birds will have hunkered down somewhere.

Have bungee corded impermanent garden structures and vulnerable saplings to more permanent structures.

Bin is bungee corded to the telegraph pole as bin day tomorrow and don't want it becoming a missile. Have removed hoardings that were hanging off a nearby demolition site as cars use nearby to park.

Sleeping Keep an eye on those trees and move the kids if it gives you peace of mind. Why spend the night worrying?

Have arranged for lifts to work for the children as don't want them walking or cycling tomorrow.

Bit saddened to realise thaton Tuesday morning we will likely awaken to trees and plants denuded of leaves. Winter will be here.

I did post it on the other thread, but I'll put it here too.
I've been blogging about getting ready for the storm (plus some fart-gun jokes - it's relevant, honest!)
