I liked him.

It shows he is human.

CuriousKangaroo · 22/06/2026 17:18

Overall, I liked him too and I think he has been hounded out of office for no real reason. People are foolish for thinking that 2 years in power starting out with an economy left in tatters and systems broken by austerity is enough time to make real change. And while Brexit supporters will never accept it, without being in our closest trading bloc, the opportunity to really grow the economy is limited and that is going to be an issue for every PM until someone finally says it out loud.

I also think the press love the melodrama of constant changes in leader and feed the nonsense for clicks.

I didn’t love everything Keir did, but I thought he did some things well and it was nice to finally see someone measured and sensible who obviously does believe in public service in the role, even if my own views don’t align directly with his.

including the parachuting in of Burnham as a potential new PM when he has zero experience of even being an MP

Oh dear god ...

Onceuponatimethen · 22/06/2026 19:22

Andy Burnham was an MP for years before becoming mayor

Do not feel sorry for him at all. This is the toad who has an act of parliament to give him a huge pension.

The Pensions Increase (Pension Scheme for Keir Starmer QC) Regulations 2013

Standard arrangement for people who have held the office of Director of Public Prosecutions, and in this case it was set by the coalition government, i.e. the Tories and the LibDems. He wasn't even in politics when this was brought in. Why do you call him a toad?

Labour has said the rules for Sir Keir's pension as DPP were set by the government at the time, which was headed by Conservative PM David Cameron.
A Labour spokesman said: "The rules for the DPP's pension are set by the government of the day, in this case the coalition government, and followed the precedent for all DPPs.

Just like to offee some balance when anecdotes about the NHS are being discussed.
I had a cancer diagnosis. Still receiving treatment to prevent reoccurence years after this.
My diagnosis & treatment was swift. I had full diagnistic investigations within 2 weeks of seeing my GP. Staff have been unfailingly compassionate and knowledgable. When I needed it, the NHS was there. I would be dead without the timely treatment I received.
Are there problems in the NHS? Yes. Do some people have a poor expeirence? Yes. Is this universal? No.
When I had realistic fears for my life and was facing years of treatment, I was very glad the NHS was there & treatment was free at the point of delivery.

Agree, I am very sorry to hear about the bad cases but I can get an appointment within a day or two at my doctor’s surgery and the NHS has been amazing for us so far. My elderly parents get constant care from the NHS as well.

Sir Keir isn't a crappy person. He's flawed like any human but he was elected PM and has been hounded out of office. Shame on this country.

Always on these threads…

He wasn’t ‘elected PM’. He was elected by party members as leader of the Labour Party. The Labour Party has the most MPs in the House of Commons. Therefore the Leader of the Labour Party is the PM.

I'm a nurse of 30 plus years. I don't think so..

If you say so 🤪

Its just as if they can't do any research 🤣

ilovebrie8 · 22/06/2026 19:51

@WitchesCauldron what do you want me to do ask her again and post a video ..it’s real life facts.
It’s a shit show in the NHS where I am.
Trying to say it’s not the case as it doesn’t suit your views.
You would know if as you say you have been a nurse for years , I doubt that’s true probably made up 😂

You've quoted me. I know how it works. In practice though people aren't actually bothered if Sam or Joanne are their MP but they do care about who will be Prime Minister. Sir Keir made Labour electable because voters wanted him to be PM.

If that's true, they soon discovered Mr U Turn didn't they?

Bully for you! However, every citizen deserves the same level of good quality care. And they ain't getting it.

Oh do grow up. Don't judge everyone by your own childish behaviour.

ilovebrie8 · 23/06/2026 07:55

@WitchesCauldron You are the one being childish and obtuse if you read your posts . Everything I say you have a snarky comment.

You are being rude, making stuff up as you go along as my experience doesn’t suit your views and never will.

Your username is very apt. 😉

And that rather substantiates my point.

Here's a tip: it never helps your argument to accuse people of 'making stuff up' just because they don't agree or offer a counter opinion. Not sure what I'd gain from pretending to be something false. You're flattering yourself if you think your opinion warrants that.

Some people just know better. Experience and knowledge always trumps opinion.

ilovebrie8 · 23/06/2026 11:05

@WitchesCauldron oh do get off your high horse!

You've a high opinion of yourself for some strange reason.

I'm going off real life experience and cold hard facts.

Don't give a fig if you believe it or not.

Only if they don’t understand how it works. People should elect the person they feel will represent their constituency interests as far as possible.

ReallyLoveYourPeaches · 24/06/2026 03:29

Proportional representation would enable more dynamic and collaborative coalition governments, representing a wider section of the electorate and reducing the unhealthy focus on a single leader. PR all the way!

What with Murrell, Sturgeon, the NI one, I refuse ever again to feel the tiniest morsel of sympathy for any of these bastards in whatever party.
