I liked him.

Fair enough. A vast majority of his own MPs didn’t. You can be sad about losing your job and still be a crappy person.

PistachioTiramisu · 22/06/2026 10:19

Shades of Teresa May's resignation speech. She was so emotional and really crying. She was treated badly too.

Meh! He'll be okay, it's only the loss of power he is upset about and it's not as if he'll have to claim UC or worry about paying his bills. I don't want an emotional wuss in power, crying merely because they've lost their job - it's not as if somebody in the family has died or been told they've got to wait for cancer treatment, or murdered by an imported criminal.

paradisecircus · 22/06/2026 10:20

I thought the speech was very dignified. I think this is a mistake and a mess, but hopefully will be proved wrong.

BelleHathNoFury · 22/06/2026 10:22

Sir Keir isn't a crappy person. He's flawed like any human but he was elected PM and has been hounded out of office. Shame on this country.

EBITDAisMyHappyPlace · 22/06/2026 10:23

What was the music all about as he did his speech??

Do you realise he has cut nhs waiting times and reduced illegal immigration..

Yeah, he seemed to believe this manipulation of 'figures' too. In truth, he has done neither. The poor folk who are forced to wait before being put on a waiting list are not counted (even though they are waiting). The in the main, men, who are coming in by the boatload who have ditched their papers and are 'untraceable' are not counted as 'illegals'. Like I said he is either deluded, or he believes his own lies or he believes the lies he has been fed.

RockinCara · 22/06/2026 10:32

This is going to happen time after time. Changing pm every year or two and changing party in power every election. It will take decades before the British people realise that all these complete changes in direction aren’t a fix. Nobody is going to magically change everything.

I agree. My DH has had cancer for 9 years and has regular hospital appointments, and if anything, things are worse over the last couple of years. He has just suffered a fractured femur, due to bone damage caused by his chemo treatment, and the urgent referral to Orthopaedic dept is an utter joke - week after week of being ignored, then got an appointment only to be sent to the wrong place (as per appointment letter) waited all day being passed from pillar to post trying to find out where he should have been, shuffling around the hospital between waiting (holding) areas, then to find the consultant has gone home (early afternoon), with promises for a call back and/or new appointment forgotten, and still trying to contact someone to get things back on track - more like contacting the dead as everyone promises to call back or get someone else to call back, but no one ever does. It's an utter shambles. "Getting better" my arse! What's worse he'll now be marked at a fail to attend and be included in the NHS "patient blaming" statistics!!

Wishitsnows · 22/06/2026 10:43

I can’t believe he is claiming to have cut NHS waiting lists! Total manipulation of data. So many people who can afford to or taking out loans to be seen privately sue to the terrible state of the NHS. Plus a lot of people would have died waiting hence the huge amount of compensation claims due to the issues in the nhs.

Exactly this.

Only hopefully it won't keep happening 🙏.

People seem to have got used to the madness of 4 PMs in 4 months (lost count) and think it's normal, when in fact it's just destabilising for the country and for democracy.

I am so, so sorry to read this. What is even worse is that it is not a rare experience. 😡 When you are facing such challenges at a time when you are worried or anxious, you do not always have the physical or emotional energy to be persistent. But the Starmers of this world will continue to tell us they have improved things.

My husband was forced to pay privately for his cancer treatment, my mother in law forced to pay privately for her shoulder operation, my friends dad forced to pay privately for his knee replacement. 3 people who due to wait times are having to pay to be seen. Keir has done fuck all to shorten waiting times, the public who can afford to but shouldn’t have to are simply cutting the list short themselves by paying for care.

Keir can save his tears.

Rosesandthorns66 · 22/06/2026 10:54

The Prime ministers don't have a magic wand.
Its the people of the country that are corrupt themselves.
I'll give you one example.
I get £6 a week child maintenance for 4 children. Absolutely ridiculous, you can't even get a decent takeaway from that amount.
I'm not talking rubbish, I have proof.
He's getting paid cash in hand and getting benefits, coucil tax reduction and housing benefit. He gets away with it because he's a liar.
He's not the only one and much worse that is happening.
Sorry mumsnet, just needed to get that off my chest.

He already had his own money, I don't think he did the job for a pay cheque. Some people may just be genuine.

Imported criminal isn't his fault. Cheap shot really.

What do you propose happens to fix this?

if tge likes of Nigel Farage get in, we’ll be heading to à USA type system, good luck getting bankrupt when you get cancer!!!

Yes. Was appalled to find my local, very very bad hospital, has been paid to take people off the waiting list. It makes it look better and waiting list shorter.

While going through the lists and taking of duplicates etc has been going on for years, afaik they've never been paid before and being paid would probably mean more people culled, even if shouldn't be.

Saying all this though, the NHS is proper broken and that was not the fault of Starmer. It would take a long time to improve things.

If he "loves" this country so much how come he was never here? He single handedly increased global warming with his never ending private jetting.

PrimeSeason · 22/06/2026 11:18

I feel sorry for him. I think he’s a decent man. He just didn’t make a great job of being PM.

I don’t doubt how horrible this whole humiliating experience has been for him.

Utter nonsense. The job of Prime Minister has always involved frequent trips overseas for meetings with other world leaders.

I agree he didn't do it for the paycheque, he did the 'job' for the power, prestige and connections. Not to mention a guaranteed place in the HoL and a gold-plated pension.

He was 'in charge' of the country, so the issue regarding the boats is hardly a 'cheap shot'. 🙄

OutOfApricots · 22/06/2026 11:23

He's been bullied and manipulated out of his job by people who want it for themselves. I'd feel sorry for anyone in those circumstances.
