You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to others just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

Sounds nasty @TheMoth .

When was thread 1, I was trying to think last night? Not sure if I'd discovered you crazy wonderful lot at that point. I know I lurked for a while before posting as "not a teacher"!

CallmeAngelina · 25/02/2021 18:57

So, what exactly is going to be different in our schools from March 8th?
No improved ventilation.
No vaccines for staff.
No rotas/reduced numbers.
No social distancing.
No effective testing.
No masks.

It's literally "everybody back on the bus" as before and ffs stop whining about it.

ineedaholidaynow · 25/02/2021 19:02

I assume there is going to be absolutely nothing different in Primaries

Saucery · 25/02/2021 19:04

Just abandon visors on their own cos they are shit and useless. That is the only change for us.

Beachhuts90 · 25/02/2021 19:07

Our school (primary) had masks for adults in communal areas already, except for medical exemptions obviously. I don't see anything different for us.

SansaSnark · 25/02/2021 19:10

NEU have sent out invites to a 5pm zoom call on Monday.

I think it'll be tight for me to make it, but will be interesting to see what they say.

They are urging reps to meet with heads to push for a staggered return etc.

I think there's little they can do in the next week and a half that will have an actual impact though?

WarriorN · 25/02/2021 19:21

Shock 50th?! Thanks staff.

Omg look at this!

Staggered starts isn’t going to happen now though, is it Sad.

I just (very) selfishly want to be vaccinated if I’ve got to go back with no risk mitigation whatsoever.

I wonder how pissed off the parents will be when they have their kids home again because ‘bubbles’ are popping left right and centre just like during Autumn 2!

HarrietDVane · 25/02/2021 19:23

Literally no change in primary as far as my school is concerned.

MrsHerculePoirot · 25/02/2021 19:24

Yep. Deffo feels like back EXACTLY the same as before. My head doesn’t like wearing a mask, but equally doesn’t teach and rarely needs to be in a corridor. We will deffo go down the ‘we can’t enforce it so let’s not even bother trying route FFS’.

Do any of you work in schools that run iPad/laptop/chrome book schemes at all? Or know anyone that does and might allow me to ask them about it?

MrsHerculePoirot · 25/02/2021 19:25

@MrsHamlet thanks for sending me in the right direction... I’d have been rattling around that broom cupboard on my own 🤣🤣🤣

MrsHamlet · 25/02/2021 19:27

Hi MrsHP
We talked about vaccines again today in our union meeting. NAS are getting nowhere.

noblegiraffe · 25/02/2021 19:29

Interesting, Warrior. Karam Bales of the NEU tweeted the other day that a 'campaign group for no safety measures in schools' tried to ruin his life with formal complaints.

It really is scandalous that any worker who works in a room full of lots of people is not being vaccinated. Teachers, supermarket or police. It's basic manners!

ItsIgginningtolooklikelockdown · 25/02/2021 19:34

I'm not going on any threads about vaccines again, seems to be the latest way to bash. Sad

motherrunner · 25/02/2021 19:35

I actually think this is the only safe space on MN.

Yes interesting!

Reading her paper, there's no difference between children and adults. Studies were done when they were shielding. Kids don't get as ill so weren't in hospital and getting tested there, as early on in the pandemic.

Also, OMG, watch Mary on here! It's a wonder she didn't swear at him, and nice telling off when he kept interrupting (after all, she'll have had the practice!)

"Don't mansplain to me!"

If you have it, how are you coping with growing anxiety? I feel like an elastic band ready to ‘ping’.

BustopherPonsonbyJones · 25/02/2021 19:55

Other than pictures of Cillian🙂

Wavingnotdrown1ng · 25/02/2021 19:58

Can Mary, Jackie Weaver and Noble run the country for a week, please?

I do

RigaBalsam · 25/02/2021 20:00

Has anyone heard from Piggy? Hope she is ok.

StaffRepFeistyClub · 25/02/2021 20:01

Gravedigger are getting vaccinated. And undertakers. I get that they're kw, but they're not exactly sociable jobs. Well, apart from the cheeky ones Mrs Hamlet presumably knows.

Gravediggers?

Weird. I think the reason they aren’t vaccinating people who come into close contact with others is that there are simply shit loads of people.

Police, shop staff, food production & teachers should all be vaccinated. But that’s so many people it’s too overwhelming for the government to tackle.

Probably not all that many undertakers and gravediggers.
